how to stay productive
i rly srsly have a problem with this especially after school ))): like im always on tumblr or something so i never get anything done rip
so im gonna try to practice what i preach from now on!!! lets get into it!
preparing for productivity
when you get home from school or work, give yourself a 20-50 minute break. lets be honest we all have those days when we try to jump right into doing whatever the heck you need to do right when you get home but after like 20 minutes youâre distracted and a mess and not getting any work done. the easy way to prevent this is to give yourself time to do all of that before you start your work so youâre not distracted later (give urself an hour if its been an especially long day). eat a snack, wash ur face tbh, whip your hair, idk what you crazy kids do but do it. srsly. just get it out of the way.
get everything ya need in one place. this is kinda a no-brainer especially since itâs all over tumblr. but srsly why get up every 5 minutes to get a pencil or something? just have it all in the first place. ez.
turn off your phone or put it in airplane mode. personally i like to pretend like im so determined and focused but every time i see the little t at the top of my phone im just gone. donât let it distract you. if you need the internet, use your laptop/computer for less distractions.
set the mood. idk what you do, whether thats playing the moana soundtrack hanging up fairy lights, putting on your diffuser or playing rap music; idk man! do it.
actually doing the thing
alright so now u got ur fairy lights, ur mildliners, ur face washed, and ur apple juice (??? apple juice is lit???). now throw yourself into it. literally just force yourself to do it. donât know how??? welll!!! not sure how to help you! (no im kidding donât leave yet pls)
use the touch it once rule. this is a favorite of the studyblr community. it means that everything on your to-do list, everything you know you need to accomplishâ start it. just tell yourself âiâll only do 3 math problemsâ or âiâll only work on this resume for 5 minutesâ. they say the hardest part is always starting. chances are, that unfinished worksheet is going to really bother you and youâll end up finishing it. if not, then just come back to later and touch it again and again until you finish it. tedious, but it works.
use the âtwo minute ruleâ. i got this one from @emmastudies! this rule means that if anything on your list takes 2 minutes or less to do (checking your emails, checking your tumblr inbox or something), do it. just get it done.
keep it balanced. do like one easy task and then one hard task so youâre getting everything done but not overwhelming yourself either.
break down your tasks. donât just look at a giant task like âwrite a 3-page paperâ. break it down into smaller subtasks like âplan paper. draft paper. edit paper. type and print paper.â its much less scary to look at.
visualize procrastination as a monster. i do NOT take credit for this one; i saw it in a masterpost somewhere so this isnt mine!!! but basically i read that you should look at procrastination as a scary opponent ready to eat you alive (and honestly it is). tackle it. donât let it attack. be so scared of it that you donât let it get anywhere near you.
honestly just do it and keep at it. stop letting procrastination kick your ass so that you can be productive and stay productive. the work is itâs own reward (:

Aww, U.S History was really fun today :)))
// Monday - December 5, 2016
It has been a while since I posted content on my studyblr. But Iâm back and I have some news: I graduated, started my masterâs degree and now Iâm busy, busy writing essays and thinking of a topic for my dissertation (yikes!). Itâs been a mixture of emotions so far but hopefully Iâll find my place again.Â
Iâm currently at the library working on a paper I need to turn in next week. Itâs about humanitarian intervention and the use of force. Itâs been interesting so far and hopefully Iâll finish it by the end of this week!Â

Canât believe Iâm up this early myself! Since university started, Iâve been prone to late nights and consequently late morning lie ins, however this morning I decided something needed to change. Since 7:30 Iâve been working on my lab report and managed to fit in a delicious cooked breakfast (see hot chocolate and orange juice on desk). Hope your mornings have all been equally as productive.
Doing my maths homework before cleaning my room and cooking dinner:) I canât wait for this week to be finished and to enjoy a week of my comfy bed and lots of hot chocolate with Netflix playing in the background đ Check out my studygram: @studynosaurus
Finals Week Affirmations
I WILL study hard. I WILL do my absolute best. I WILL be sure to take care of myself.
I AM smart. I AM strong. I AM confident.
I WILL SUCCEED.
My worst fear on a test? The feeling of getting an exam paper in front of me, and not being able to remember anything, while back at home when reading the book I thought I knew everything. Sounds familiar? In that case, it may help to try these techniques. They help you practice retrieving information, rather than being familiar with the concepts you are studying. These have helped me loads, and Iâm actually pretty convinced that these techniques are better than many others I used to apply, like rereading and regular summarizing. Hopefully they work for others as well :)
1. Summarise⊠in questions.
How do you do it? Instead of writing down facts, you convert facts to questions. Underneath the these, you answer them in your own words. This is technically the baby of summaries and flashcards. Donât do this with every small fact, but rather convert several to one question, and omit the less important things always. Youâre not going to remember every detail and most teachers donât require you to (of course if they do, study them lol) .
Why would you do it? It is proven that asking yourself questions about the material enhances understanding and remembrance. Additionally, you can instantly quiz yourself on the material. Only reading your summary is not going to help you much with remembering, but actively retrieving information is! Also, when youâre reading and summarising the textbook throughout the semester, youâre already getting your study material for the test ready => less stress and work for when you gotta study.
2. Teach your peer / pet / pillow
How do you do it? Explain key concepts (many books provide these at the beginning or end of the chapter) to anyone who wants to listen. Donât have anyone who wants to? Your cat probably wonât mind (but who knows what cats want tbh) and your reflection is always listening to you as well.Â
Why would you do it? Explaining things to other people requires you to really understand what you are talking about, and you will more quickly find holes in your knowledge once youâre not able to explain it. Additionally, youâre probably gonna have to explain stuff on tests so itâs good practice.
3. Re-do your homework
How do you do it? Pretty obvious. Well, donât write every answer down in detail again! For maths it may be useful to only tackle the most important exercises again, while for history you may want to spend an hour to just go over them all and test in your head if you can form a sensible answer.
Why would you do it? Going over the homework is always a good idea because 1) the theory is practically applied in those questions, so you have to think about what you have learned, enhancing integration, and 2) teachers are lazy and will often reuse or slightly modify textbook questions.
How do you choose the perfect dissertation topic?
Noelle Sterne, a dissertation coach, offers sage advice for those of you embarking on one of the most momentous processes of your professional careers.
Revisit your childhood dreams.
Review your favorite undergraduate and graduate course papers.
Think about troubling experiences youâve had.
What topic has fascinated you for a long time?
What especially meaningful experiences have you had that you want to know more about and know will make a difference?
What would you like to be known for?
Donât be deterred or discouraged if the topic has been âdone.â
Imagine how the topic can be used in your dream job and how you look forward to devoting your professional life to your interest.
If youâre not in your dream job or career, paint mental pictures of the one you are aiming for.
Listen inside for the topic thatâs right for you and follow your intuition.
