Today was Pietro and Wanda’s birthday, but he had no idea how to celebrate. They haven’t exactly had a happy birthday in a while. “How do you even celebrate birthdays in America?” He wondered aloud.

enid shrugged, “i don’t know. where i’m from, we don’t celebrate them at all.” they didn’t celebrate anything at all. at least partially because they couldn’t. because they couldn’t follow the dates and they didn’t have the means.

“what do you mean by always?” the young brunette asked with raised brows.

“it looks like shit. i’m pretty sure it’s probably shit.” enid said bluntly, not one to beat around the bush.

“OKAY! OKAY!” Octavia put her hands up, looking between her horse, Helios, and her German shepherd, Jasper.  “I get it! Running between Arcadia and here takes to long! I’m sorry!” A laugh leaves her lips as  she bends down to place a small thing of water infront of her dog, patting helios’ neck before pouring her water out infront of him for a drink. “Well stay, for awhile.” She sighed, before grabbing the nearest person. “Hey! Do ya know where i can store this big boy for the time being?”

“i mean, i don’t know where you could store him. but if you just need to do something, i can mind him for you?” enid offered, unsure of how else to react.

“That’s understandable,” she said. “A little experience here will be beneficial.”

she nodded, though she was getting a little sick of it all. “i suppose so.”

Carl bit down on his lip, a dry laugh falling from his lips before he nodded. “She looks like mom. I’m hopeful, but I just.. worry that dad thinks she’s Shane’s. Not like we can do one of those tests to find out, though. Not in the middle of the apocalypse.”

enid shrugged her shoulders, “it’s not like it matters anyway. anyone who’s related to me by blood is dead. doesn’t mean i don’t have family.” she told him, hoping it would sound reassuring, which was what she meant. she slid her hand into his.

“uh..sorry, i um.” mumbling as she watched the other punch at the bag, harry was quite alarmed. almost worried. “im just um..a little uh, concerned if you’re alright.”

enid looked over her shoulder, surprised by what she heard. “oh, um... yeah-- yeah, i’m fine.”

“maybe.” enid shrugged, “but i just... don’t want to get my hopes up.”

“nowhere is really safe,” enid said slowly, shrugging her shoulders. “nowhere.”

Mercury was growing bored. While this world gave him a much needed escape from his own, it came with the rather dull downfall of zero action. Sure, Yang kept him on his toes every once in awhile. Gave him a fresh bloom of bruises to tend to but even still Mercury needed to stretch his legs (so to speak). He hadn’t really meant to ‘sneak’ up on her. After all, he was use to being in a world where people auras picked up on other people’s presence. Still, when she turned on him, he lifted his hands up in ‘surrender’. “Relax. Didn’t mean to spook you.”

“telling people to relax pretty much never actually works.” she pointed out, leaning on the boxing bag for a moment. “what are you doing here?”

His heart was breaking at the sight of the look she was giving him. He had seen the same expression on too many young people in the past few years. Children who ever so often didn’t even realise just how strong they were, being too busy pretending nothing was wrong. “Okay,” he replied softly, coming to a halt several feet away from her. “Mind if I stay? You’ve got a good punch, I bet I could learn a thing or two from you.” He offered a smile.

enid was good in these situations, she was inherently strong, having lived through the apocalypse as she had. nevertheless, this was different. living here was different.  somehow, it scared her more. she was almost completely alone and had no idea how to operate after having seen what she’d seen and done what she’d done. she almost snapped at him not to patronise her, but instead just nodded. “if you want.”
