thinking about marchosias, i adore his character but hes so annoying to draw because i dont really have much experience drawing dogs and also what the actual fuck is going on with that outfit

(lots of rambling about him and his character below the cut)

anyway, i really like the similarities between him and the lamb- the ways that marchosias denounces and detests godhood while also enforcing their behaviors through his own i think speaks to a level of hypocrisy that, at least in my opinion, isnt intentional on his end.

he wanted to be better than the gods were, to take in and rescue his people and keep them safe, but to do that he needed enough power to fight against any crownbearers that tried getting a bit too close

its just that, in gaining that power, the things he had to do and the sacrifices from both himself and the wolfpack were arguably no better than that of the gods they rejected and ran from. in an attempt to create a utopia, he simply created yet another flavor of hell (even if i do think its somewhat implied that the wolfpack has better living conditions than most of the cultists you fight from the old faith)

but its because of allat that i think him and the lamb are somewhat similar- they were both wronged by the gods and tried to create a safehaven for others who were also wronged by those same gods. i do believe lamb was much more successful than marchosias in doing that, but at the same time, theyre not completely absolved of any guilt.

its a bit difficult to put into words, but i feel that the way lamb runs their cult is generally directed towards showmanship- like its supposed to look all happy and peaceful despite being built on mountains of corpses, both of their enemies and of their followers.

marchosias clearly was trying to do something similar, but since he had no power nor crown of his own, he had to make that power himself- and in doing, he ended up corrupting his intentions from that shift in focus from "creating safety" into "gathering power", and while he never quite lost either of those goals, i think its pretty clear which one was prioritized by the time he meets the lamb

i also find it really interesting how his visual design looks a lot more like a god/ crownbearer than any normal follower/ critter/ whatever. really makes me curious what exactly happened to change him like that. while im pretty sure it was from him experimenting on his own body, theres still the question of why he looked like a crownbearer, and not some sorta mutated dog (though its very likely im just overthinking that one)

all that being said, i very very much like marchosias' character and i think hes one of the most interesting characters in the entire game (still below narinder and the lamb though), but i havent really seen a ton of people ramble about him so i wanted to get out all my thoughts on the guy, maybe spark some conversation or something idk, hes a good character

like the reason he sucked so much as a cult leader isnt because he was bad at using the crown but because he just didnt have it and therefore lacked the power to enforce and built up the cult in the first place

Urgently Need Comms or Donations

I’m still working on previous comms, but life keeps happening and I’m short rent money.

My mom’s work paid her 800 dollars too much last pay check, but since it was a mistake they needed her to pay it back. But you see. They also needed what was taxed back so she didn’t get paid for several days of work worth 1500 dollars to make up for the payroll mistake. My mom promised to pay rent at least before the end of the week. We don’t have any food in the house besides ramen and we have other bills coming up. Anything would help 🙏

back on my crownrot shit

lore from their artfight page below the cut, most of this is subject to change as i iterate and improve the concept given that its currently a loose collection of ideas but it should be good enough to get down the basic idea for anybody who's curious

okay so what the hell is crownrot

After committing to a ritual where they, one by one, consumed the mind, body, soul, and faith of their most devoted followers (like literally ate them alive) before confronting The one who Waits for the last time, the power of the red crown became increasingly unstable and its growth became abstract and erratic. The lamb's body began turning in on itself due to an overabundance of faith, and in an act of desperation the crown fused with the lamb's mind and body far more quickly than would otherwise be natural to hopefully prevent their permanent death and the loss of a high-quality host. Now, the lamb is more crown than mortal and the red crown will often take over its fragile body during the resurrection process. The fusion between the two beings caused a rapid mutation, morphing the lamb's shape to resemble Narinder's in many places due to the effects of the crown that would otherwise have taken centuries to happen naturally.

Due to the fusion, the crown can no longer be separated from its host and will always be either connected to the lamb via a small tether or resting inside their body. Weapons used by the lamb are either shaped around existing objects or morphed directly from their limbs, and these shapes are often unstable and will shift into other forms within a few minutes, though this can be delayed significantly via shaping things around existing objects rather than making them from scratch. The lamb is not particularly adept at the use of curses & spells and the crown is not in a stable enough form to assist, though they are capable of performing them in a pinch.

what's wrong with that lamb

The lamb has always been a quiet individual, its dead-fish eyes are usually pretty off-putting to people at first meeting. They struggle expressing emotion in a physical sense after the crown's fusion. They tend to get a sadistic streak when realizing an opponent is weaker than them, though its hard to tell if that's due to the crown's influence or if they're just a psychopath. 

While they do care for Narinder, they're outwardly just as indifferent to him as they are to the rest of the world and it's difficult to tell why exactly they brought him back. The lamb has very few possessions to speak of, and their tent is filled with discarded gifts from various cultists. Despite not showing it, the lamb does have quite a few lingering attachments to specific individuals, primarily the bishops and a handful of disciples shown by how quickly and frantically they try to bring these people back in the event of their death.
