“Anything beats going through high school again.” A hilarious thought, considering just who and what he was. As for stigma.. he was used to it. His brow tightened at her words. “The best?” he questioned. He knew she was just being playful, but visibly, he was taking it as a challenge. “Well, I think you’re very pretty. Pretty fun, too.”

“High school wasn’t that bad for me, actually. I was super hot,” she laughed. “But I understand where you’re coming from. School just isn’t for everyone.” Jenna shrugged her shoulders, “Of all time? No. Lately, yes. Once you gain custody of two teenagers, you kind of lose any and all hope of someone finding you attractive.” She laughed at him and shook her head, “Well, that is very sweet of you.”

“Thank god.” He had very weak intentions to get a job; to create a life. But, he knew it couldn’t hurt. Assimilating if only for the fact that he could. No living person in Mystic Falls ( that he was aware of ) knew his secret, and he still had a good two years left. Maybe to even assemble his own coven – a band of people under his spell. He took the card, flashing her a smile. “Oh, I didn’t think you were much older than me,” he assured her. “But Jenna it is.” 

“There’s still a stigma around it as well, so good luck,” she laughed halfheartedly. He was pretty lucky that he hadn’t grown up in Mystic Falls. The old ladies at church should only gossip about how attractive or unattractive they found him. Jenna wasn’t so lucky. “Oh, that is probably the best compliment I’ve ever received.”

“GED it is. They still offer those?” Maybe there was an online thing. He’d have to hit Bonnie up about it. Any records Kai had would be too old to pass off as his own, so of course it was the only option he had. “I wouldn’t mind the hookup, Miss…?”

“They sure do,” she nodded. “I think it still goes through the school system, even.” Jenna would be lying if she hadn’t looked up how to obtain a GED recently. She didn’t have the highest hopes for her nephew actually graduating. “Oh, it’s just Jenna. I like to think I’m still young enough to forgo the ‘Miss’. Let me give you my card,” she opened her purse and dug around until she found a slightly crumpled business card, “Sorry, my purse destroys everything I put in it.”

“have you thought about taking a break ?” elena offered. “go out, have fun — sleep if that’s what makes you happy. jeremy and i can manage for one day.” she wasn’t entirely sure her suggestion was a good one, but stefan’s words were live our lives and that applied to jenna as much as the rest of them.

“A break? I haven’t had one of those in years,” she exaggerated. “I’m sure you guys can manage perfectly fine. However, I’m supposed to be responsible and setting a good example.” She made a face of mock horror, “I’m boring now, Elena. How did you let this happen to me?”

“Actually, I’m couch hopping. Cheap’s good when you’ve got a dime to your name but uh, haven’t gotten to that point yet. Know of any sweet job opportunities instead?”

“Hey, we’ve all been there. I don’t know about sweet, but I think the grill is always hiring. It’s not a very glamorous job, but it’s something. If you’ve got a diploma or GED, the real estate company I work for is looking for a receptionist. We don’t get a lot of business, so it’s pretty easy.”

“I think I’m officially an old person. I’ve had five cups of coffee today and I still feel like I could sleep for a good ten hours. I don’t see why we’re all so eager to grow up when being a grown up is basically just a curse of being tired all the time.”

“Oh, are you new in town? We don’t really get a ton of visitors. Anyway, there’s a B&B three blocks down mainstreet. It smells like mothballs and the woman who runs it is ancient, but it’s cheap and has great water pressure.”
