S1 Ju-Won and Tsumugi are so fascinating to me because they are so toxic friends and also so understandable at the same time. Ju-Won is a doormat and Tsumugi is a rabid squirrel like... Ju-Won just lets her get away with so much and covers for her or apologizws for her, he's kind and genuine enough to know her apologies mean something, because she's afraid to say them in front of anyone else. Tsumugi is so egotistical and brash and dismissive of others claiming the ends justifies the means, until her gear hurts someone she really cares about, because she knows Ju-Won has seen her at her worst and still cares about her. She doesn't believe anyone else will do that. Until Winning Swing they're both just the "big soft and small sharp" trope with a parasite theme laid over it- and we just have to assume there's nothing more than that- or that Ju-Won's so dumb he doesn't recognize he's being used. She just relies on him and is saved by him and still is so thoughtless and mean! But then!! At the end of Winning Swing the little cut back to every time her tech has failed and hurt him, the way she tried to make up for embarrassing him in front of his crush Amir, and the quiet fragile apologies we didn't get to see. Like she's mean but also... has these shrouded and very personal very private actions of kindness, which are still enough for eternal kindness Ju-Won, because he has the strength to bear what he knows isn't true hatred and the ability to recognize Tsu's strength in her actions... Its perfect both for their personalities at start of the season AND setting up the arcs they go on later in the show
