a ♠ for a headcanon:

dante’s well known affinity for strawberry sundaes runs a lot deeper than others would assume !

sparda, unfortunately, died when dante and vergil were seven, maybe seven and a half; at least a few months before eva was murdered ( the months inbetween involved eva and the boys laying low to escape the demons). the last time the family were all together, before everything went awry, was a night out for sparda and eva’s wedding anniversary at a fancy restaurant.

dante can’t remember much, only that for dessert he got a strawberry sundae and that was the most content he’d been. intrinsically linked, strawberry sundaes are a surefire way to make him happy.

unlike how it’s shown in the anime; he doesn’t have them often to preserve the specialty of that feeling.

as is per usual for the days inbetween world ending disasters, dante was bored witless. it was all the half demon could do to flick through a newspaper, searching — yearning for something to whet his thrill seeking appetite. the only recent paranormal activity ( 2007 ) were some kids playing truth or dare with a ouijia board that got a little out of hand. amateur stuff.

the door opens, a bell rings, but dante remains in his chair, feet kicked up onto the desk as he leans back — the picture of nonchalance.   ❝   The bathroom’s in the back.   ❞   for what seems like the fith time that day, dante quirks his head in the direction of the door to his right. he has no reason to suspect this customer would be the harbinger of his lethargy’s end, such that he doesn’t even glance to look at them. ( the coupons for free sundaes were woefully more enticing. )
