This time I hunt for death, the night I lean toward, the night I want.
Anne Sexton, from Live or Die; Menstruation at Forty. (via lesbitsch)
lemon verbana: do you believe in "forgive and forget"?
“That really, really depends -- on the person, and what happened. I want to say that most of the time, no. But I can let something go without forgiving or forgetting, if that makes sense. If you can’t, they have control over you.”
pine needle, rain
pine needles: how do you break bad news to someone?
“Straightforward and as soon as possible. Just rip the bandage off.”
rain: is it easy for you to bounce back after being sad? do you hang on to your sadness?
“Almost always, for the most part. Hanging onto sadness is a romanticized waste of time. More often than not, and depending on the situation, mine turns to short-lived anger anyway, and then I let it go.”

magic is real you fools it happens when you make your friends smile
“just hanging out…as opposed to?” cass had a pretty good idea what the other option was. she couldn’t say she was all that dissimilar to the other but for her, it was better off to start at the high end and hope you end up in one of their beds. not that she had to worry about that now. these days, cass was the one people were trying to get into bed with. her comment was the wind needed to raise eyebrows, amusement written on cass’s features at the confidence in which she spoke. “do you always assume so much about strangers?” to be fair, cass certainly didn’t look like someone who would prefer a shitty dive bar but she had a tendency of doing what other’s didn’t expect. red lips perched on the edge of her glass, dark eye rising to trace the other’s profile. “that sounds like an invitation.”
jules only grinned in response to her question. “most people are easy to read.” her clothes, her demeanor, it was too hard not to believe she’d walk in somewhere purely local without disgust, and she normally didn’t trust these people. jules raised a brow. “you said yourself it’s the last place you’d be, right?” start at the top, make your way to the shittier places. she smiled, “it could be.”
The building was quiet minus the hum of the computers running in the corner and his footsteps against the carpeted floor. Morgan went up and down the aisles, putting the returned books back where they belonged. There was a bit more than normal today due to public schools not needing their usual class materials anymore as summer approached. However he didn’t know exactly where he would be putting over thirty copies of The Great Gatsby. A soft tingle of the bell above the door drew him from his task. Morgan poked his head out of the aisle and gave the new entrant a polite smile.
“Welcome. Do you need help with anything?”
Jules actually hated reading as a kid -- not more than math and science, actually because unlike working with numbers, she was actually capable of reading, but she felt like she didn’t have enough patience for it. Every once in awhile she’d find something good she’d lean into, but that was about it. Now that she was older, a million things around, and the world was almost definitely too fast paced, she found she liked reading more and more. Less distraction, less feeling like the world was passing her by.
“Yeah, hi,” she greeted. “Actually, I just realized I’d been utilizing online books -- which I kind of hate -- when I have this right here. Not even sure what I’m actually looking for today.”
that was a fair point. cass hadn’t had to deal with an actual hangover in a long time. no one wanted to deal with a hungover cass, least of all cass. “of course it’s not here. from everything i’ve learned, the longer you stay out, the shittier the bars tend to be as the night progresses. you can’t start off at the shitty one or there’s nowhere left to go.” at that exact moment, the bartender came back, sliding her drink over. her lips spread into a wide smile, one that tended to make people think it was reserved only for them. “but i love a kitschy name.” cass said, smirking over at the other as she took a sip from her drink. “if it’s so much better over there, what are we still doing here?”
"if i’m just hanging out, i tend to start off at the shitty one and stay at the shitty one,” she said with a laugh. there was a difference between her coming out to get drunk or have fun with a friend versus her bar hopping because she was looking for someone to go home with. which is the only reason she’d bar hop. otherwise she’d stick around at her and lorelei’s favorite spots with the people they knew, where the locals were, usually away from 90% of tourists. “hmm,” she looked the brunette up and down, “i dunno. you wouldn’t like it.” she smirked and looked away again. “i make good drinks too.”
“not really.” cass supposed she had her parents to thank for that but she never really got the chance. drinking at six was frowned upon usually. “it takes far more than this for me to go beyond buzzed.” sometimes she wished it didn’t but then again, it meant she could have as many drinks as she wanted at events and awards and not make an ass of herself. “is that so?” the woman asked, intrigued at the thought of choosing to go to a shitty bar. not really her scene. “how shitty are we talking?”
“at least once you actually get yourself drunk enough you can make it last awhile. less of a hangover too.” she supposed there were pros and cons to both. she turned on the barstool so that she could lean her back against the bar. “i mean,” she started with a scoff as she looked around the higher end bar and gestured vaguely, “it’s not here.” here it was quiet, classy. there, the laughter was as loud as the music. she only came to this place missing a friend, they used to show up and mess around, make up fake conversations to things they couldn’t actually hear. “these drinks are the same drinks you’ll get anywhere else, they just added a kitschy name.” she smirked and looked over at the other. “just saying.”
—- osiris sat on seth’s shoulder, his harness lead hooked around the man’s arm. the pair weaved in and out of the foot traffic, looking pointedly ahead, ignoring the stares. however, he glanced to the side and stopped to look in the window of a greenhouse. “well…. mine are all dead..” he muttered, contemplating buying more plants.
unlike seth, jules noted the stares and enjoyed them to the fullest. she let her mischievous ginger walk as the spring day was cool and the cobblestone was smooth. she picked máni up when seth stopped, however, and raised a brow at him. “so... you want to buy more... just to kill them again?” she shot a smirk at him. “not much of a green thumb, there, dude.”
“the shot.” cass clarified with a small laugh. “you’d think i wouldn’t mind after the third one but…” she shrugged, tapping on the counter to get the bartenders attention once more. with a sweet smile in his direction, she ordered an actual drink - she could only do so many shots. “i’m not even sure what i ordered, i leave it up to him and hope for the best.” cass had a goal of trying each drink at the local bars, she had to experience the island somehow, right?
"oh,” jules laughed. she made note that the brunette had had multiple drinks but still seemed pretty well coherent. “not a lightweight, then?” she grinned. that seemed to be something people prided themselves on, for some reason, even though getting drunk and staying drunk is purely genetic in how quickly alcohol dehydrogenase in your liver metabolizes alcohol. things she only knew thanks to her parents. “there’s this shitty bar that has the best drinks, this girl is always making up some new shit, but she’s good at it.” shitty looking places usually have the best people.
