"Don’t get ahead of yourself, Rivers. You’re tolerable."
"Well, tolerable suits me just fine. Though, just so I know, is this the part where I'm supposed to return the favor and profess my undying love for you, or something?"
"You don’t irritate me, and you’re not half-bad. Take that how you will."
"And to think that I was worried that you were going to kill me. Does this mean that you kind of like me, then? Or would that be taking it too far?"
"Got stuck with the graveyard shift, did you? I’d offer my company, but it’s doubtful you’d want it and my own duties call. I do have a stale lollipop, though, if that makes up for anything."
"Don't I always? Although, that lollipop does sound like it could cheer me up. Stale or not, I'll take it. Though I wouldn't have said no to your company, Sam -- what made you think I didn't want it, anyway?"
"And why’s that?"
"It's cold, I'm exhausted and being alone tonight doesn't particularly appeal to me. Need I go on?"
"I haven’t been getting much sleep these past few night so I’ll be awake if you wanted company. Not sure of how great of company I can be tonight, but it’s sometimes better than being alone. You’re apart of Protection, right?"
"I'm sorry to hear that. Can I ask what's keeping you awake? You don't have to answer, of course, but I figured talking helps to.. clear the air, or something. And yeah, that's me -- James the Protector, and you are?"
"Aren’t they always or is there something special about tonight?"
"I'd like to think I can stand them. I mean, it's usually quite nice to be out by the wall on my own. I thought it'd be the same for tonight, except for the fact that it's absolutely freezing outside."
"Looks like it's going to be a long shift tonight."
A tanning booth, huh? That does sound incredibly tempting, I must admit. Don’t go complaining when I knock on your door at dawn, James. We can’t waste any time, can we?
Oh, of course not. When it comes to the dilemma of your tan -- no, no, scratch that -- the absolute crisis that is your tan, we've got to use our time wisely. Dawn is absolutely fine with me, Mr. Vause.
"Hannibal-esque? Christ. I’m not going to eat you. That’d be a waste.”
"And why would it be a waste?"
"I think I read that on a Hallmark card once."
"It’s not as painful as it sounds. I’m pretty sure we’d have just enough anesthetic if that was what I was trying to do here. Unfortunately, it might still be terrifying to watch your own intestines being pulled out of your chest…but I digress. Continue."
"I wouldn't be surprised. Originality's not really my thing."
"Fantastic. As long as I don't feel it, then I s'pose it's okay. Though, that does sound like a Hannibal-esque thing to do. Right, you wanted to know height, weight and blood type, if I remember correctly -- oh, and medical history. So, here: height is 5'11, weight is 78 kilograms, blood type is A+ and nothing major, just minor things. Happy now?"
"Thank you very much. I owe you a ton."
"Throwing rocks? That’s absolutely absurd. There’s nobody out here to throw rocks at.”
"It's alright, Lincoln, don't worry about it."
"Ah, I didn't realize you had to have a target. Though, I reckon you could get a couple of good shots at the walkers rambling around outside."
"No one. It just sounded better than simply agreeing that I’m off-putting to most people."
"And what’s that supposed to mean? Scared I’m going to lure you into the basement so I can harvest your organs? I thought you Protectors were supposed to be fearless."
"Well, I always say that honesty is the best policy."
"Fearless when it comes to protecting others? Yes, I'd like to think so. Not quite so sure when it comes to being stripped of vital body parts for no reason, though. But fine, I'll tell you what you want and then we can finish this, right?"
"It’s part of my charm, or so I’m told."
"You are? Interesting.”
"Who tells you that?"
"How so? I -- look, I'm not sure about this any more, Gabriel."
You can never be too sure, Rivers. My uneven tan might distract them from more important things — handling zombies for instance.
Rivers? What -- aren't we on a first-name basis, Chace? And I'm so sorry, I didn't even consider that possibility. If you need me to, I'll accompany you on a run and we'll find a tanning booth somewhere.
"I’d like it very much if you weren’t suspicious."
"Well, seeing as you asked so nicely -- but seriously, were you throwing rocks again or something?"
