      he sometimes holds events where his surprisingly large group of fans can interact with him. it always shocks him how many people turn up, and the variety in their numbers. most, of course, are female, most younger, though there are quite a few that claim to be fans of his since before he grew to international fame. regardless of who they are, he’s grateful for all of them, and he’s thankful that each and every one of them support him.

      none of them really know who he is, but that’s okay. that’s not their job. it’s not their job to take care of him, it’s his job to make them happy if he can. taking the chance to actually talk with all of his different fans and signing their various products is something small that he can do, and he enjoys it.

[ TRIGGER WARNINGS: depression, blood mention, self-harm mention, suicidal thoughts ] 

     “but,” he says, chewing on his lip and it’s a nice distraction, tasting copper on his tongue and it grounds him a bit, reminding him of the cuts along his arms and the tangy scent of blood whenever he does do so. he’s not sure how his cousin is planning to pull this off, considering that they’re still underage and they won’t have any parent supervision over there. and to go to another country in which neither of them were fluent in the main language was a bit crazy, even for him. 

     “we don’t speak english ..” he makes a soft sound, sucking on his split lip and he glances down at calleis quietly, the gentle licks to his hand making him smile just a bit. it takes him a moment before he realizes he hasn’t seen his vulpix in a long time and he scrunches up his nose slightly, gently running his fingers through her fur again, combing it out gently and he does feel bad but he’s not sure what he’s feeling bad for right now. 

     he sighs, unsure and he doesn’t want to leave seoul. but, at the same time, he doesn’t want to stay here either and he’s just torn. sometimes, he honestly just wished that he could’ve gotten caught in the attacks, and right now is one of those times.

      he’s finally getting responses from hongbin that make sense, the logical things he’s used to hearing from the other, and he grins in response. it’s just nice to hear the other’s voice, sounding fairly normal, fairly tuned into the conversation, and he replies gently, his eyes softening. “our parents said it would be a good idea. even if we just go for a short vacation.” he offers up, showing that he hasn’t just gone crazy. 

      “that’s not true,” he argues with a fond smile. “i speak english decently, and you’re pretty good at it, yourself. it’s going to take some work, but it’ll be fine, i’m sure.” he sounds more confident than he really is, but at the same time, he’s pretty sure that they can pull this off. if they’re determined enough, it’ll be okay, right? he’s heard that certain parts of the states have a large korean population, anyways, so he’s sure that they’ll be alright, one way or another. 

      “just for a while, even? let’s just get out of here for now, binnie.” he hopes his cousin will say yes. it’s more for the other’s health than anything else, at this point, although he does want to compete, he’d go anywhere, as long as hongbin will leave with him.

“you’re the one that taught me the pun in the first place, park jinyoung,” she shoots back at him with a soft huff, scrunching up her nose before she just shakes her head in amusement, only telling the truth. the only reason she had learned english in the first place – despite not having practiced it in a while – was because of her trip to the states to visit him. she was still pretty okay when it was kept at a conversational level and she had a decent range of vocabulary but she was nowhere near fluent. not after the couple years of not doing anything.  

agreeing wholeheartedly with his words, she blinks up at him once she’s in the passenger seat of the car, having made sure his head was okay, watching as he rounds the car to the other side and she closes her door to wait for him. 

“it’s been way too long since i’ve seen everyone in one place … maybe i should hold a christmas party? my apartment is big enough to hold everyone …” bomi trails off as she considers it, once he’s in the car and the idea is firmly planted in her mind now and she thinks she really might hold one. it would be fun for everyone and it would also be a great time for her to catch up with all the important people in her life that she didn’t see often enough. 

“where are we going tonight?” she asks, poking him before he starts the car so he wouldn’t ‘jerk whilst driving and crash the car or something. “or are you not letting me know?”

     “that was because i thought it was funny! but you keep using it, and i completely regret teaching it to you.” he keeps a straight face, pretending to be serious, and he honestly doesn’t mind it. on the contrary, he’s rather touched that she still remembers the joke he’d told her so long ago. that, and the fact that she had learned english -- earnestly! -- solely because she had come to visit him. there’s that, at least. he knows he’ll always be important to her. that’ll have to be enough. 

     he smiles a little bit and he tilts his head. “the sooner, the better.” he says firmly, thinking that the more quickly everyone can get together, the better it’ll be. he knows for sure that there are plans in the making, and for him, it’s important that she is happy. that’s all he wants. 

     “you don’t get to know,” he teases playfully, starting the car and he’s grateful she hadn’t poked him after he’d started driving. “but i promise you’ll like it. a lot. more than you usually like food,” he laughs a little bit, knowing how much she loves food, and he already knows that her answer would have been how she’d like all food. 

      he hopes that tonight, he can satiate his stupid longing to want to be with her, and finally rid himself of her grip on his heart.

     he’s been waiting for what feels like forever for his eggs to hatch. in reality, he knows it hasn’t been that long -- not nearly as long as he had to wait for aether, but regardless, the truth of the matter is that he’s impatient, and he wants to meet his new friends. his pachirisu had hatched just a little while ago, and he had promptly named her phoebe. but now, the egg that held the shroomish he had received weeks ago was finally wiggling endlessly, promising a new life to be born into the world, for him to adopt. he’s undeniably excited, and when the egg cracks, shattering from the top down, he’s greeted with an angry looking mushroom pokemon. 

a shroomish, at last. “i think i’ll name you perses,” he laughs a little bit. the titan of destruction, and perses will evolve into a breloom at some point -- a fitting name for a fighting pokemon, who will be his only contender in the tough condition, he thinks.

perses seems to like his new name, stomping on the ground, and jinyoung can’t help but grin to himself, pleased. his family is growing, and he’s excited.

The ball sucks the Buizel into the ball and it wiggles slowly, the Pokemon seeming to put up less of a fight, and the capture light winks out. Congratulations! You've caught a Buizel (male, level 20, Swift Swim).

     his expression is relieved as the ball sucks the pokemon in, the capture light winking out shortly after that, and he can’t help but cheer to himself. a buizel and a sewaddle, both of which will evolve into fairly useful contest pokemon. he can’t wait, honestly, and he’s excited -- four new pokemon, along with his new shroomish and pachirisu, and he thinks he’s got more than enough pokemon to last him for a good while.

[ TRIGGER WARNINGS: depression ] 

     he blinks, confused when calleis hops out of her ball and it’s like he had forgotten something existed inside of the pokeball he had been turning over and over in his fingers. the warm weight of the vulpix on his lap has him pausing and thinking again, unsure of what was currently happening. he just felt so numb from everything that had happened and it had been so long since he had done anything beside going through the motions. he knew his parents were worried and that jinyoung was too, but why didn’t that mean anything to him anymore? 

     “the states …?” hongbin echoes again, unable to really grasp what his cousin was trying to propose, in all honestly. why did the older male want to go across the world to the states right now? or soon, or whatever he was asking him to do. “… why?” 

     his fingers automatically move to comb through his vulpix’s fur gently, smiling despite of himself and he glances up at jinyoung again, quiet, chewing on his lip and he’s unsure of what his mind is really even thinking at this point. 

[ trigger warnings: depression ]

     his expression softens slightly and he manages a small smile at his cousin, just carefully settling himself down on the ground, next to the younger male, a hand still stroking through hongbin’s hair. he hopes that calleis can help jolt hongbin back to who he was, or even a shadow of that, but he doesn’t think she’ll be able to. his cousin often forgets to let out his pokemon, nowadays. it’s been up to jinyoung to do that for him, to make sure his cousin’s pokemon get a chance to stretch and run around. 

     “the states,” he confirms quietly, making a gentle noise. “... i want to keep competing. i want to keep doing this, binnie, and i can’t anymore. not here. they’re banning all pokemon activities, remember?” his voice is gentle, trying to communicate to the other. “i want to see different places,” he adds on. 

     calleis seems to have missed her owner, making soft little yipping noises that sound exceptionally content as he pets her, turning her head to lick at his hand quietly. “come on, binnie... let’s go try it. we can always come back if it doesn’t work out.”

“The states? You’ve competed in the states?” Tia asked, her head tilting to the side in curiosity. “It’s entirely possible that we’ve crossed paths before, on multiple occasions even. My mom is a well-known coordinator in the states and I used to travel with her for contests all the time,” she finally revealed. She wasn’t sure if he would be able to put a face to any names she might mention but she thought she was in the right ballpark with her assumptions. Not many coordinators could even say they’ve competed with her mother, let alone win against her, and it was even more peculiar when that someone who managed both was a young kid. Tia thought that the odds of Jinyoung potentially being that kid she remembered were much too high to be a simple coincidence. “Did you perhaps go by a different name while in the states? My mom was mainly based in the San Francisco area, but she would take me on cross-country trips for conventions and stuff, so I wasn’t just in one area at all times. And I even dabbled in Mcing then, too!”

     “yes, i have.” he says with a small smile, tilting his head in curiosity when she says that they might have crossed paths while he had been there. at the revelation that he might have competed with her mother, his eyes widen slightly, his lips parting slightly. “was she really? what’s her name? it’s very possible, especially if she’s well-known... i’m sure i’d remember her name.” 

      he mostly remembers being one of the youngest by far, his eyes so bright with young determination, all the faces of the older coordinators he’d beaten flickering through his mind. “i did. i compete under the name austin park? i still do... i was based in new york, but i travelled around a lot, too. i think i remember you two...” his voice is uncertain, trying to remember a girl around his age who had mced, but it’s not completely clicking at the moment. there are parts of his sojourn in the states that he blocks out, pushing the memories to the back of his head, and it certainly doesn’t help him recall the little details.

     “why must you steal my pokemon every time you see me?” he pouts playfully, though he hands antheia over to his cousin easily, considering the little petilil absolutely adored the older male. he’s sure it’s just because she had gotten a few ribbons in competitions with jinyoung but he also doesn’t actually really mind at all, amused. “though i guess it’s not stealing if the victim is willing,” he sighs, shaking his head and sticking his tongue out at the grass pokemon. 

     suddenly remembering the good news, hongbin claps his hands together and he glances at the coordinator excitedly. “so i took a walk earlier, with calleis when we were swapping shifts, and guess what?” obviously he’s too excited to actually wait for jinyoung to answer the (rhetorical) question anyway and he’s quick to beam at the older, eyes bright and curved into crescents, dimples showing in his cheeks. “i caught an oddish!”

     he can’t help but grin at his cousin, cuddling the petilil close and he kisses the grass pokemon’s head very, very happily. he adores antheia, really, and the grass pokemon has been exceptionally helpful in helping him win ribbons, and he’s pretty sure she likes it when he brings her along to the competitions, judging by how she jumps around whenever they finish the competitions. “antheia loooooves me, don’t you, darling?” his voice is so pleased as he cuddles her close, content to just hold her for a while. 

     his eyes widen slightly at the other’s news, laughing a bit because he loves how happy his cousin looks. the look of sorrow is still too prominent in his mind, and he’s so relieved to see that the other can really smile now, dimples and all. “good job, binnie! an oddish?” he asks with a grin. “are you going to evolve it into a bellossom, or are you going to keep it as an oddish?” he knows his cousin well enough to assume that the younger is definitely going for a bellossom if he evolves it and not a vileplume.

safari event – w. @jyjinyoung 

     his successful catch of the oddish is still a rather surprising one for him, not having thought that he would be getting any new pokemon from volunteering to help out at the safari. the new addition to his team is a nice one, and he’s not really expecting much more from being here. of course, he’s not even supposed to be wandering around really, but his shift is over now and he doesn’t have anything else to do. calleis was taking a nap, so he had antheia out of her pokeball and he was wandering around. 

     considering he hadn’t even known his cousin was going to the safari with him, it was surprising yet again when he ran into the older on one of his wandering trips. he’s quiet, not having even noticed jinyoung nearby until antheia started squeaking excitedly at the sight of the familiar person.

      he’s been wandering the safari zone aimlessly in hopes of finding random pokemon. he had come on his own, not really sure who else is located in the safari zone. he’s humming softly to himself, just strolling along the path, when he hears an excited squeak. it’s a very familiar sound, and when he turns around, he sees a very happy petilil in a very familiar person’s arms. 

     “binnie! antheia,” he coos immediately, hurrying towards them and reaching for the petilil. “hi, antheia! i missed you,” he says with a grin, unable to help but smile at the sight of the adorable grass pokemon. he hadn’t realized that he’d managed to wander back to the nurse’s station. unlike hongbin, jinyoung had assumed the other would be going -- having asked the younger to go with him, he’d thought that hongbin was just automatically agreeing. rather, when the younger began packing and noticed him packing as well, hongbin had asked him where he was going, and that had been beyond surprising to him.

and in a flash, eunha realises why she struggled so much with being a celebrity. it wasn’t the constant attention being drained from her or the emotional starving of interviews and television spots. it was this, right here, in front of her. the building of walls that tested best with focus groups and the eventual crumble of them. it was realising that this person on your screen could and, more likely than not, are vastly different from what they truly are. it was realising that your idols, even those you thought could do no wrong were, in fact, human. 

had she known that this small event of picking up her eevee would turn into meeting a celebrity idol, having that image erased and then rewritten as something better–she might not have come at all. she’s glad she did, though, and he speaks, she can’t help but smile. her eyes, too, are watering and the part of her that has dealt with grief for many years wants to hug him.

bringing a finger to her eye, she wipes away a small tear. she had always been too emotional; too involved. she tries to laugh it off. “no, i’m, i didn’t meant to, i’m–” she breathes in deeply, filling her lungs with air as she frames her sentence clearly, “–it’s clear that i don’t know what really happened in your life before today but if there is one thing i’ve learnt from meeting you, it is that you mean so much more than you know.” reaching for his hand, she places her own softly over it, a small action representative of how genuine her words meant.

      his eyes are uncertain as he gazes at her, and he has to admit that he hadn’t expected such an outcome. the tears sparkling at the corners of her eyes catch him off guard, and somehow, he hadn’t thought that she would even attempt to understand him. let alone... change her view of him, and subsequently accept who he is. the thought is almost stunning, and it leaves him trembling where he stands. it’s an odd, distant feeling, he finds. 

      her small hand covers his, and he trembles slightly at her touch, trying not to collapse into the relief that’s currently flooding through his body. instead, he lifts his eyes up to meet hers, tears filling his own eyes, and he feels a little silly, and very vulnerable... but he supposes that around someone who had shown such compassion, that’s not necessarily a bad thing. 

      “thank you.” his voice is soft, barely there, and his lips curl up slightly at the corners. his expression is full of gratefulness and relief, his eyes softening, and he hesitates momentarily before he shifts. “i... don’t know if you’d be comfortable with this.” he starts, obviously a little awkward, and also a little in awe, that he’d be asking an elite four member this, regardless of the fact that said elite four member had admitted to being his fan. 

     “would you... like to get coffee together, or something? sometime? i’d like to get to know you better.”

The ball wiggles twice before it shatters into pieces, the Buizel leaping out and turning to stare at the trainer in what seems to be almost betrayal, shuffling further away uncertainly.

     he winces at the look the buizel shoots him, glancing down at his hands and he smiles uncertainly at the water pokemon, hoping that the buizel will turn away again so that he can throw another ball at it. there’s something about having to throw a ball at the pokemon that is staring at him that dissuades him. it makes him feel uncomfortable, as though he’s taking advantage of the pokemon in some way or another. it’s hard for him to explain, it’s simply how he feels. 

     maybe he doesn’t really need another pokemon, after all. for a moment, he’s tempted to let the buizel roam free, but the chances for him to catch pokemon come so few and far between nowadays, especially with his constant travelling. he spends more time competing and giving interviews, encouraging and training other coordinators than he ever did before, and there are always people he wants to spend time with. the end result is always inevitably that he has no more time to expand his team -- not necessarily a bad thing, but in the end, his goal is to have a team that is both balanced in battle, and contest centered.

     when the buizel finally accommodates him, turning away and examining something else, that’s when he senses his chance again. casually, trying not to catch the water pokemon’s attention, he stealthily slips a ball out of his pouch, hoping that perhaps this one will be the lucky catch. 

     carefully, he tosses the ball at the buizel’s head, inhaling sharply as the spherical object makes contact.

The splashing sound from the pond beside you gets louder as a wild Buizel hoists itself out!

     the splashing sound from the water next to him surprises him, but his eyes almost immediately widen in a mixture of delight and excitement as he spots the pokemon that hoists itself out. a buizel – one of the pokemon he’d actually hoped to get when he’d read the list of pokemon that roamed the grounds of the safari zone. floatzels are highly versatile when it comes to competing -- they’re exceptionally good at cool, beautiful, and cute movesets, all depending on the direction he chooses to go with them. not that jinyoung really needs anymore cool condition pokemon; with aether, astraios, and psyche already on his team, and the newest addition of the sewaddle he has yet to name. he already knows that with the leavanny it will evolve into, that will mean four cool condition pokemon, where he already has three of everything else. what he really needs right now is a pokemon to compete in the tough condition, one that doesn’t belong to bomi. really. a fighting type would be ideal, but seeing as how there’s no fighting type pokemon in this safari, he’s honestly just hoping for a ground type, of some sort. 

     goodness, he’s spent far too much time thinking. the buizel had peered at him in interest, and when he hadn’t reacted, had decided that he wasn’t really worth the time, and had waddled away. scolding himself in his head, he supposes it’s a good thing that the pokemon has its back turned to him. taking careful aim, he tosses a ball at the buizel, the spherical object knocking the water pokemon on the head. with bated breath, he watches as the pokemon is sucked into the ball, hoping and praying that it will just stay in the ball.

Tidal Waves.

Jaebum twisted at his hands anxiously. He had been avoiding Jinyoung for the past week or so, too lost in his own thoughts over what had transpired between him and another close friend. Jaebum had acknowledged the feelings one lithe framed coordinator left blooming in his chest, his heart a proverbial field of white lillies. He was so obvious about it too that it was downright pathetic. Smiles and laughter left his face turning a bright red color and his hands had always been itching to just reach out and twine their fingers together gently. Instead he bit into his lip and kept his gaze wandering off to things that literally didn’t matter to him, trying to give him a chance to clear his head and remember who they were to each other.

That’s why a simple kiss shared with another friend had been a breath of fresh air, a chance to see is his feelings were real. To tell if they were grown from real affection and love or were they something rearing its head at memories and conveience. The moment soft lips pressed against his own, his eyes clenched shut, he could tell that it was different. There was no twin flame bursting to life in his body, instead it was a nice feeling but something he could live without. The thought of pressing his lips against the coordinators though left him chewing at his bottom lip and wondering if he would need it the same as his body needed air to breathe.

Needless to say, his thought process had left him taking up residence in his apartment. He still made his daily trips to the gym to play with his pokemon and instructed his trainers to call him should any challengers visit. But otherwise he had drawn the blinds down and settled in on his couch with a marathon of movies playing one by one on his television. His umbreon was curled up in his lap, his wigglytuff snoring in his ear as she slept slumped against his shoulder. Jaebum laid his head on the back of the couch and stared up at the white ceiling above him.

He hand fumbled beside him for his phone. He unlocked the screen and opened his messages, staring at the little blinking cursor for a few moments. Squaring his shoulders, he typed out a simple text to Jinyoung.

     it’s been more than a week since the last time he’d spoken to jaebum. there’s a part of him that’s telling him his anger is irrational, unreasonable, and utterly stupid, but his heart rails back against that thought. he isn’t wrong. he’s within perfect reasonable grounds to be upset and worried over the fact that his best friend had kissed someone else. after all, what if jaebum starts to ignore him in favor of his new... boyfriend? 

     (he knows he should be happy for the other. who the fuck cares if he loses a little attention from jaebum? it was never his to begin with. jaebum has never owed him anything, anything at all, and jinyoung is selfish, selfish, selfish. but he doesn’t want to acknowledge it. he knows. he knows he’s completely irrational. he knows he’s the worst person ever to walk the face of this earth because he’s so bitter about the possibility of jaebum being happy with someone else.) 

     his phone buzzes next to him and he jerks himself from his sulking to glance at the screen. he knows he’s being petty when he opens the message, knowing that kakaotalk will mark the message as read. he’s petty and he knows it, but he pushes that thought to the back of his head. fuck this. fuck everything. 

     his eyes darken as he locks his phone, tossing it aside and flopping back onto his bed with a low grumble. aramis nudges at him gently, as though trying to ask him what’s wrong, and he sighs heavily, his lips curling down at the corners. he’s not going to deal with this. not now.

her chin hangs in her hand as she stares blankly at the wall beyond the counter. in the silence, she wonders what would be taking him so long and for a brief moment wonders if it was her fault. she knows that sometimes, especially when she gets comfortable enough to talk, her words can be quite brass. 

perhaps she had gone a bit over the top with her compliments. 

when he returns, she straightens up immediately, smiling as she spots the pokeball in hand. clapping her hands together, she’s about to speak, before he beats her to the punch.

“oh…”

it was all she could manage. in just three sentences, so much weighed on her. her first reaction is to duck her head in embarrassment, feeling guilty that she had forced him to say something like that. at the same time, she struggles internally at the revelation that her celebrity idol was not as perfect as she had made him out to be. 

“i’m… sorry….” she says eventually, smiling at him, “i’m sorry for whatever happened to you in the states. i’m sorry that they were so good at covering it all up. most of all, i’m sorry if you think that this changes the way i look at you–how we all look at you” waving her hand absentmindedly in the air, the action representative of all those that grew up admiring him, “nobody is perfect but you made a difference in our lives and that’s what really matters, right?”

     his eyes soften and he glances at her quietly, his shoulders slumping slightly. he knows she’s probably not going to look at him the same way -- who does, after being told that their idol isn’t the same person they’d always thought he would be? the problem of idolizing celebrities, truly. but her reaction isn’t one that he’d expected at all, as she flashes him a shy little smile, very sweet on her young face and his eyes widen slightly. 

     “i --” his voice is soft as he takes in her words, and they strike a chord in him that he hadn’t thought would hurt anymore. for some reason, all of the words she says strike him with a finality that almost sets a tension inside him loose. apologizing for all the things he thinks he must have needed to hear, letting go of everything he’s been harboring inside. the pain that’s built up, the little voice inside his head telling him he’s unworthy to be standing on the stage in front of so many people, that he’s shameful. 

     “thank you,” he finally manages, his voice tight with suppressed tears. he doesn’t want to cry, not in front of her, one of the most powerful trainers in the country now, but there’s such a weight that’s been released with her words. “you... i don’t know if you know.” he smiles at her, eyes a little watery, but no tears falling yet, “if you know... just how much that means to me.”

The ball knocks the Sewaddle on the head and seems to tip it over halfway before the Pokemon is sucked into the ball in a flash of red light. The ball wiggles once... then again, and a final time before the capture light winks out. Congratulations! You've caught a Sewaddle (male, level 18, Swarm).

     with bated breath, he stares at the safari ball, wondering if the pokemon would manage to break free or not. he really hopes it doesn’t -- they only have ten safari balls, after all, and he’d love to maximize the number of pokemon he can get from this. sewaddle, when it evolves into leavanny, can learn a good deal of cool condition moves. while he doesn’t need another pokemon to compete in the cool condition, already having a number of pokemon who excel in it, he figures that it never hurts to add more pokemon to his roster. 

     what he thinks he’d really like is a ground type pokemon: ground moves tend to lean towards the tough condition, and that is one place where he’s definitely lacking. he has plenty of pokemon to compete in clever (aramis, of course), beautiful, cool, and cute, but he doesn’t think he has a single pokemon that specializes in the tough condition. it’s not necessary, but he prides himself on being a well-rounded coordinator. there’s a reason he’s ranked as a top coordinator, and it certainly isn’t because he refuses to venture outside of his usual comfort zones. 

     the ball wiggles for the first time, and his hands clench into fists, nails digging into his palms as he inhales shakily. please, please, please -- the ball wiggles a second time, and now he feels the pressure. how many more times will it wiggle before the capture light winks out? he desperately wants to catch it on the first try, if only to save himself some balls for other pokemon he might encounter. it wiggles one more time, and the capture light winks out. 

     he cheers to himself, grabbing the ball and clipping it to his belt for the time being. he thinks he’ll let the sewaddle out later, when he’s caught more pokemon and thought of names.

she laughs, agreeing fully with what he was saying about her boyfriend, amused. “he’s probably giving everyone the evil eye, literally, and scaring them.” she’s imagining it, shaking her head slightly as she thinks about it and she can’t help the snort that she gives out either, laughing softly again because she was about a hundred and ten percent sure that that was probably exactly what was going down in seoul right now. “maybe it’s a trainer that doesn’t watch the news?” she offers slightly, still laughing to herself. 

“ooo, can you call it “bbomb day”?” she asks, eyes bright as she follows after him to the car, grinning to herself and her limited english that she had picked up on the handful of trips she had made to the states concerning jinyoung was the sole reason of that horrible pun.

“i think i might try … maybe next year?” bomi grins to herself, thinking of everyone that she could invite to the party, excited at the prospect despite it just being that right now. “that just means i can get everyone i love in one place for one night – even if it’s not on my birthday, i would love to throw one big get-together every year.” 

sliding herself into the passenger seat, bomi is honestly surprised when he kisses her on the cheek and her eyes widen further when he almost smacks his head on the doorframe. “are you okay?” she asks immediately, unsure if he had actually hit his head or not, eyes wide as she stands up again, reaching up to rub at where his head might’ve hit the car.

     he laughs a bit at the thought and he’s just thankful that he’s not the one on the receiving end of cha hakyeon’s wrath. despite how gentle the elite four member actually is, he’s heard that the steel type specialist can be quite terrifying when he’s in one of his battle moods. or moods in general, really. “still... i mean... you’d have to be pretty clueless.” he points out with a small shrug. 

     he can’t help but groan when she says that, covering his face with a hand and he mutters, “you’re the absolute worst, that’s the worst pun in the world, yoon bomi.” he sighs heavily, reaching out to poke her forehead carefully. he doesn’t want to ruin her makeup -- if she’s wearing any on her face, he can never really tell. biased person that he is, he just thinks she looks pretty, 24/7. “it would be fun, though. i feel like we haven’t had everyone together in... well... years, honestly. it’s been so ridiculously long.” his voice is soft as he blinks at her. 

     he winces as she rubs at his head and he’s not sure whether he’s dizzy because he actually hit his head or because she’s in such proximity to him. “i think so,” he replies as he pulls away from her slightly, trying to free himself so that he can calm himself down on the walk over to the driver’s side. god. he’s such a mess around her, and that needs to stop. 

     she’s taken, he reminds himself firmly, she’s taken and it’s pretty much a guarantee that she’s going to be engaged soon, and married. he was stupid enough not to prioritize her over his contests, and he regrets it -- but hakyeon had stepped in, and deep down, he knows he’d never had a chance against the older male.
