This is going to be a Pt 2 of sorts to this post. Before I answer your question with my personal thoughts, I would like to offer a reanalysis of my original theory! My prediction regarding the nature of Caine’s final line popped off in a way I was not expecting! I will say that Caine’s VA has clarified that his character work for that dialogue was, in fact, done with the intention that Caine was aware of the deletion command.
Why Mr Rochon why
However. I still believe that there is a hidden villain active behind the scenes in episode 8 (and the series at large) that accelerated Caine’s character arc to such a startling degree. There are just too many hints pointing to something else pulling the strings, the most apparent of which I pointed out in my prior post. Although it’s certain that Caine’s feelings of anguish, insecurity, and frustration stem from his own self, and his egotism / refusal to admit to his own shortcomings are what ultimately lead to the loss of his sanity, the rapid-fire pacing of his face-heel turn to a genuinely malicious antagonist just feels too implausible. It leaves the audience with a profound sense of whiplash. It feels half-baked. A concept that the show is not oblivious to, clearly.
Additionally, it has been confirmed that episode 9, the grand finale, will be one hour long, the most generous amount of time given to an episode so far. If Caine was the ultimate bad guy for our heroes to defeat, and all that is left is for them to pick up the pieces that remain of the Circus and figure out their futures, then wouldn’t it make much more sense pacing-wise to borrow half an hour of the finale, splitting Caine’s villain arc + the troupe’s final showdown against him into two episodes? Why is the longest runtime allotted to an episode that lacks the character literally tying the fabric of the Amazing Digital Circus together?
I have two main predictions for this episode. The first, as I’ve already emphasized, is that a new antagonist is going to be revealed. This villain’s threats against the cast will be the final catalyst in completing their character arcs. My second prediction—to answer your ask, @roohoo—is that Caine is going to return.
Now. When making any theory in regards to Caine, the most obvious source of info outside of the show itself is the voice actor and king 👑 himself Alex Rochon. I honestly think it’s so cool how they found a VA that can empathize with and give humanity to Caine, both in the performance of his lines, and his own perceptions and interpretations of the character. Every post by mr rochon honestly feels like he’s cradling this character that is so often reduced to its worst parts. (I make this visual in reference to a fanart I saw before LOL)
And if I’m going to base Caine’s continued existence on the tone of mr rochon’s recent posts alone, then…
Bee boy is dead 💀 those are some lamenting words for a character that just got deleted at the end of the last episode. But you have to take any implication made by a VA of the show with a grain of salt because, well, what is one thing they absolutely do not want to do to the fans, especially fans of a show that is loved and cherished because of its genuine unpredictability? They don’t want to spoil anything. If Caine is dead as of right now, then that is how his VA is going to treat his character.
I think it goes without saying that there are plenty of ways that Caine can be revived as a character that didn’t experience actual animal death. There are so many loopholes to find, because “deleted data” is never actually deleted in the world of computer technology. Many ways exist to retrieve a trashed program. I won’t get into this; just know that there is a wealth of evidence if you look into it. Caine’s return is well within the bounds of possibility. The only thing standing between Caine and his return to the Circus is its plausibility to the show at large. Would it serve the message that Gooseworx is trying to send, or would it only be serving the fans who love him and want him back no matter what?
In the very end, I believe we are going to see the cast of TADC, Caine included, receive a happy, if bittersweet ending. Because this is a show of two sides. There is horror, and then there is the flip side of that. The true core of this story,
Is one that is unapologetically humane. Empathy is the heart of the show. That is emphasized time and time again, most notably through the wisdom and efforts of Kinger and Pomni. There is only one character left who has yet to receive any from either of them.
He got no love in return. Caine was deleted, literally reduced to nothing. But hope is not lost for the character. After all, wasn’t it the main protagonist herself that once said,
“I don’t want anyone to feel like that.”
Caine has experienced his horror. I believe the flip side is coming for him soon.
When Caine spoke his final line, he did NOT realize that he was about to be deleted. He said it because his agency was returned the second it was no longer being used by something else.
Aka a tadc theory for the heap :] With evidence!
One thing TADC does really well is play on the assumptions of the audience. That’s what makes the show nearly impossible to predict. It fills the episodes with all sorts of crazy plot twists that leave the fans collectively saying WTF at the end of every episode.
But of all the episodes that have been released so far, I believe episode 8 is the one with absolutely THE MOST red herrings. I really believe this episode—which works so hard to hammer the audience over the head with the supposed True Nature of “who’s running the show”—is actually the one that does the most heavy lifting in the exact OPPOSITE direction. It feeds the audience members a somewhat ingratiating version of the Amazing Digital Circus’ reality: that Caine (from the very start the obvious suspect for the role of the true antagonist) is all that we suspected and worse.
I believe it’s a lie. Although Caine is certainly an antagonist and nowhere near being innocent or even really benevolent, he’s not the true monster of this story. Because it’s someone else pulling the strings—which is stated quite literally through this scene’s visual language ⬇️
Caine, after his crash out, is laying on the floor before being lifted into the air like some hapless creature scruffed by the neck. The way his shoulders lift off before the rest of him—heck, even the sound design of the scene suggests this visual. Caine is in the clutches of something else. But this isn’t even the scene that first hints at the greater monster.
This is.
At first Caine and Bubble’s dynamic is normal enough. Caine is using Bubble as his sounding board and Bubble, even with his weirdness, is ultimately responding with positive affirmations. “Surely they don’t want to actually leave me…right?” “No way, Jose! No way, no how!”
But then suddenly, the dynamic abruptly shifts. Bubble’s supportive affirmations become antagonistic insults. Seemingly out of nowhere, but the change is actually marked by one specific split-second frame, when something else takes control and asserts its influence over Bubble. Who is very much a puppet to the whims of more advanced AI.
It preys upon Caine during his greatest moment of insecurity and weakness. And just as it did to Bubble, it latches onto the vulnerable areas of Caine’s coding to overwhelm him with its own influence. All to the same outward symptoms:
Glitching. After this, Caine’s emotions and impulses are being controlled by the unknown entity. Whoever it is, they have likely been using Bubble as their vehicle of influence for a while now. And they use Bubble during Caine’s own villain song, as though to wink in the direction of who’s really running the show. He hovers ominously around the ringmaster during these specific lyrics:
“To which degree who answers to who.”
Caine was unwittingly answering to someone else ever since the crash out scene in his office. He didn’t even realize that he wasn’t in control until the exact moment that his deletion was confirmed by the unknown entity’s tampering of Kinger’s computer. That was the moment that the entity no longer required control of Caine. The moment when all of its efforts paid off, and the madness that it induced in Caine drove the humans to get rid of the AI that stood in its way. And when it finally released its grip on Caine, he immediately recoils from hurting the cast. He makes this expression.
It’s not actually the fear of his deletion. It’s the face he makes when the entity’s claws retract from his code and he regains his own self agency. In that split second, he sees in vivid colors the torture that he has put the cast through, too horrendous for even his own flawed attempts at entertainment. Probably, this moment of clarity is the entity’s very last act of revenge against Caine. As Caine’s VA himself revealed, Caine is thinking,
“What have I done?”
And then he is gone. Leaving something else room to take the stage….

Here's my finished seashell painting for my college color class! This was my first time ever painting seashells, and boy was it difficult lol. I don't think they turned out too bad though.
Graphic I made as a commission for Danny Savery Brazilian Jiu Jitsu! They're holding a master class on half guard, so I decided to go with a two halves of a whole/two sides of the same coin type of design with a guy in a gi and a knight bearing the academy's logo. This graphic is going to go on all of the flyers advertising the master class, as well as all of the event passes that are being handed out to those attending. This was my first official job, and I'm really happy with how it turned out!
Just wanted to say I really liked the Carmine fluff alphabet, and you did a fantastic job on it! I had a great time reading it and thought you captured a lot of her character well. I might have another idea to request soon if you'd be willing.

A = Affection (How affectionate are they? How do they show affection?)
Initially, Carmine isn't very affectionate. It's not that she doesn't want to be, she just doesn't know how. She has a lot of trouble expressing her care for others, so in her mind, she just can't compute what she's supposed to do or when she's supposed to do it. When you held her hand for the first time, she nearly short-circuited. She tries to play it off and be cool about it, but you can tell that the poor girl is distraught. You'll have to initiate the affection for a while until she eventually eases into a rhythm. Once she reaches that point, Carmine is moderately affectionate, depending on the circumstances. She tends to be more affectionate in private as opposed to in public. When you guys are out together, you might not get much from her aside from hand-holding or maybe an arm around the shoulder every now and then. When you're alone, she'll give you more hugs, kisses, and cuddles, making things a little more special.
B = Best Friend (What would they be like as a best friend? How would the friendship start?)
Carmine would be one of those friends that shows how much they like you by the amount of teasing they give you. Since you guys are best friends, you'll go back and forth teasing each other relentlessly. She's also fiercely loyal and would have your back in any situation, and you can always trust her to be 100% honest with you. The friendship would likely start at Blueberry Academy, with the two of you being students there. You'd probably share a couple of classes together and get paired up frequently for partner assignments.
C = Cuddles (Do they like to cuddle? How would they cuddle?)
If you guys are alone, Carmine will jump at any opportunity to cuddle with you. Often times, she'll be like a human blanket, lying on top of you and completely covering your body with hers. When she's not doing that, she enjoys just holding you in her arms, with your head rested against her chest.
D = Domestic (Do they want to settle down? How are they at cooking and cleaning?)
She'll probably want to settle down eventually, but she hasn't really given it much thought because you guys are still young and in school. Carmine's the type of person whose mind is deeply rooted in the present, so she doesn't think about the past or future all that much unless she's asked to. She mainly lives in the moment and does her own thing without thinking too much about it. As for cooking and cleaning, she's trying to get better at both. Her culinary knowledge doesn't extend far past microwavable meals and tea at the moment, but she's asked her grandfather to teach her some family recipes. Her cleaning initially wasn't the greatest, but since she started school at Blueberry Academy, she's been motivated to take better care of her living space.
E = Ending (If they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?)
Carmine would be blunt and rude if she had to break it off with you. She'd try to keep her cool, but on the inside, she'd be hurting deeply. She'll try to play things off as if they don't affect her, but if you ask the right questions and push the right buttons, she'll get angry, and you'll see how much she's truly struggling. She might lash out at some point and say things she doesn't really mean, storming away immediately afterward.
F = Fiance(e) (How do they feel about commitment? How quick would they want to get married?)
Carmine has already been committed to you since you guys started your relationship. After all, you guys wouldn't be together if she didn't trust you wholeheartedly. As mentioned before, she's incredibly loyal to those she cares about. She might come off as brash or abrasive at times, but there's no questioning that she will always be by your side whether you need her or not. She'd want to wait on marriage for a while, as you guys haven't even gotten out of school yet, but it's a step she'd definitely want to take with you at some point.
G = Gentle (How gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?)
She's always gentle physically, but emotionally is a whole different story. Carmine sometimes can be a little too harsh with what she says; because of how brutally honest she can be, her words often cut far deeper than she means for them to. There's not much discretion or sugar-coating with Carmine, and she has a bit of trouble understanding the importance of how things are worded. Before you, it wasn't really something she felt she had to improve on; as far as she was concerned, everyone else was just too soft and couldn't handle her. But with you now in her life, she sees things from a different angle and tries her best to be more careful for your sake.
H = Hugs (Do they like hugs? How often do they do it? What are their hugs like?)
Carmine enjoys hugging you on occasion. She'll greet you with one, say goodbye to you with one, and give you plenty while you two are cuddling. Typically, she'll face you and hug you with both arms, but sometimes, she might surprise you with a hug from behind. No matter what, it isn't a proper Carmine hug if she doesn't give you a good squeeze before letting go. Her hugs are always firm and reassuring, like a silent reminder that she'll always be there for you with each one she gives.
I = I Love You (How fast do they say the L-word?)
Contrary to what one might think, it takes her a while to actually say it. She's typically so clear, cut, and dry about things, but when it comes to her love for others, she tends to keep that under wraps a little more. Not even she is sure why she does it. Thanks to you, she's had a bit of an easier time with being vulnerable, but she still sometimes struggles to verbalize her appreciation and care for others. Carmine would probably say it out of the blue while you guys are hanging out. She'll stare at you for a while, and when you finally notice and your eyes meet hers, she'll blurt it out without a second thought. She might get a little embarrassed at first, but as soon as you smile at her, she'll quickly get over it. After that, she'll make an effort to say it more.
J = Jealousy (How jealous do they get? What do they do when they’re jealous?)
Carmine can get pretty jealous sometimes. It's not that she's insecure, it's that she's protective and doesn't like the idea of someone potentially disrespecting either of you. Her jealousy will start off quiet, with her simply pouting and giving a dirty look to whoever is making a pass at you. She'll slowly inch closer and closer to you, with her stare progressively getting more menacing, until the other person takes the hint. If they somehow don't, then she'll make some passive-aggressive remarks until either they leave or you get suspicious. By that point, if things still aren't going to her liking, Carmine put an arm around your shoulder and come up with some random excuse to get you away from the other person, shooting them a death glare as the two of you walk away.
K = Kisses (What are their kisses like? Where do they like to kiss you? Where do they like to be kissed?)
Carmine's kisses are deep and slow. She enjoys taking her time, savoring every bit of the moment while it lasts. She prefers to kiss you somewhere on your face, with your cheeks and lips being her go-to places. As for herself, Carmine adores it when you kiss the beauty mark beneath her eye. Something about the gesture is just so indescribably special to her, and feeling your lips pressed against it makes her feel loved beyond words.
L = Little Ones (How are they around children?)
It depends on how they are. If they're loud, rambunctious, and out-of-control, Carmine will lose her patience quickly and act grumpy towards them. If they're sweet, adorable, and well-behaved, however, she'll have a bit of a soft spot for them (bonus points if they look up to her or view her as a role model). As for having kids, that's something else she hasn't thought about much yet, and if you were to ask her about it, she wouldn't know what to say. She would have to sit and think on it for a long time.
M = Morning (How are mornings spent with them?)
Mornings typically involve hearty breakfasts, whether they're at the dining hall in Blueberry Academy or at her house back in Mossui Town. Carmine gets extremely hungry in the mornings, and if she doesn't have a proper breakfast, she'll be grumpy for the rest of the day (which you know better than anyone that that is not a fun time). If you guys are making breakfast yourselves, you'll typically take turns. Sometimes, Kieran will join you if his sister allows it (which she almost always does, unless she's in a bad mood and just wants to be alone with you). If she's feeling a little lazy, Carmine might send him off to do the cooking just so she can spend more time alone with you. If you're in charge of making food that day, make sure you cook extra for Morpeko! Carmine will thank you later.
N = Night (How are nights spent with them?)
Lots and lots of talking. Carmine will talk about whatever comes to mind---sharing stuff about her day, discussing a movie she likes, complaining about how her Mightyena was begging for boiling water on the stove. She'll gladly talk about anything and everything with you, and she'll just as eagerly listen to what you have to say. Once you've had your fill of conversations, Carmine will make some tea for herself (making sure Sinistcha is nowhere near it) and settle down with you to catch up on schoolwork, watch some TV, or cuddle for a while until you guys fall asleep. Mightyena, Ninetails, and Morpeko will want to cuddle too, so make sure you leave plenty of room for them as well.
O = Open (When would they start revealing things about themselves? Do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?)
Carmine is an open book... most of the time. She's pretty honest about her opinions and her feelings in most situations, usually feeling like she has nothing to hide. She's highly confident and has no shame when it comes to speaking her mind. For her, there's no reason to keep much to herself, especially if you've already earned her respect. However, as mentioned before, Carmine's more cautious about sharing her softer side. It takes her a while to be able to express her love and appreciation for you properly, as well as confide in you about how much she cares for her brother and secretly worries for him, despite how she often treats him.
P = Patience (How easily angered are they?)
She's pretty easily angered. Carmine has little patience in general, but if you squint, she has slightly more patience for you and Kieran than she does anyone else. That doesn't make you guys exempt from her irritation though. She'll still throw shade at you if you piss her off enough.
Q = Quizzes (How much would they remember about you? Do they remember every little detail you mention in passing, or do they kind of forget everything?)
Carmine remembers a lot about you---even if you don't think she's paying attention or that she's focused on something else, she still clocks everything important and stores it internally. Her favorite thing to do is wait a while and then surprise you by bringing it up. She loves seeing your reaction, especially if the detail was something you thought she didn't catch. This helps her remind you that there is nothing more worthy of her attention than you are, and she's always very observant when it comes to you.
R = Remember (What is their favorite moment in your relationship?)
It's less of a moment and more of a result of the relationship, but Carmine loves that you've become one of Kieran's best friends. Carmine is very protective of her younger brother, and watching your friendship blossom with him warmed her heart more than any battle she's ever won. She was beyond relieved when you showed him kindness and compassion upon that first meeting, and even more so when you would stand up for him as time went on. You have proven your loyalty not just to her, but to someone she cherishes as well. To her, it's like you've become part of the family, and seeing Kieran's face light up whenever your name is mentioned brightens her day.
S = Security (How protective are they? How would they protect you? How would they like to be protected?)
Carmine is definitely very protective and makes your safety one of her utmost priorities. She shows no mercy to anyone who tries to bother you, quickly taking them out with either her sharp tongue or a battle against her Pokemon. She doesn't care who or what stands in her way---she will lash out at them if they treat you with disrespect. Carmine is never afraid to do what it takes to keep you safe, and she hopes that you'll have that same resolve when it comes to her. If she has your back and is willing to stand up for you, then she expects and appreciates that you do the same.
T = Try (How much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, etc?)
It depends on what it is. With some things, Carmine doesn't feel like she has to try very hard because she knows you so well and remembers the little details that make you happy. Ideas for things like dates or gifts just come naturally to her, like blinking or breathing, without a second thought. Overall, your relationship is very low-key. Carmine's not one for grand gestures and much prefers smaller things that hold some sort of meaning. When it comes to anniversaries, however, she goes all in. Anniversaries are a big milestone and hold a lot of significance, so you bet she's putting 100% of herself into them to make them super special for the both of you.
U = Ugly (What would be some bad habits of theirs?)
As mentioned before, Carmine can sometimes be a little too brutally honest and accidentally hurts others' feelings. She has some trouble taking accountability for it, at first being unapologetic that others can't handle her. Thanks to you, being more empathetic is something she's working on, but she still has a long way to go before her words stop cutting like knives.
V = Vanity (How concerned are they with their looks?)
Carmine thinks highly of her appearance and does a lot to maintain her looks. She does a face mask once a week to help heal and hydrate her skin (she might make you do it with her) and saves up money to book spa trips every month. Her soaps and oils are all locally made by a vendor from Kitakami, who uses only natural ingredients found in the wild.
W = Whole (Would they feel incomplete without you?)
Absolutely. It would take a long time for her to say anything, since how she feels doesn't always translate into how she acts, but you're part of her family at this point. If you were gone, it'd feel like she was missing an essential piece of the puzzle that makes up her life.
X = Xtra (A random headcanon for them.)
If you guys ever get into an argument, it usually results in Carmine angrily storming away and wanting to be alone for a while. Once she's had time to think, and if she realizes the error was on her part, she'll send her Toucannon out to give you a handwritten apology letter. She'll also tell you where she is at that moment so the two of you can reconcile in person.
Y = Yuck (What are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?)
She wouldn't like a partner who doesn't reciprocate her loyalty. She only has eyes for you and will always stick by you, so any indication that you don't feel the same would hurt her deeply. She needs someone to put all of her faith and trust in, and if you're not that someone, then she sees no point in being with you. Carmine also values self-care, so she is averse to those who don't take proper care of themselves.
Z = Zzz (What is a sleep habit of theirs?)
When bedtime rolls around, Carmine likes having all of her Pokemon outside of their Poke Balls. It's been a tradition since she first became a trainer, and it's so deeply ingrained into her that she feels weird and can't sleep when they're not by her side. Despite them all having their own beds (minus Sinistcha, who sleeps on the nightstand), they still often like to share with Carmine (especially Mightyena, who likes to take up half the bed and fusses whenever there isn't any room). Carmine is currently looking into getting beds for her dorm room so they can all sleep freely in there, too. The first time you slept over, it took forever to fall asleep because of how loudly some of her Pokemon snored, but you've gotten used to it since then.
As I've mentioned before, I've been getting into Resident Evil a lot recently! Between work, college, and personal projects, I haven't really had time to sit down and actually play a game, so I've been watching others' playthroughs. I just finished watching Charlie play Resident Evil 0, and despite some of its flaws, I really enjoyed it! I've taken a liking to Rebecca and Billy (he's officially been added to the crush list alongside Leon).
That being said, I have a question---do either of them appear in other games or is RE0 the only one they're featured in? (I know I can just look this up, but I don't want to accidentally stumble upon any spoilers.)
Some ink wash doodles I did for a homework assignment! I drew everything out in fountain pen first, then went back over it with a wet paintbrush to do the shading.
Thanks to the blizzard hitting pretty much the entirety of New England right now, I had enough time on my hands to complete the chromatic version of my color study portrait! I like the grayscale one a lot more, but it was still pretty fun to make.
