Reworking of this piece did not go how I planned. I started off with the white chalk ontop of the ink, (Cy Twombly)
I then attempted a paint imprint by building up colour and water on the page above. This just left me with ripples but I quite like the messyness of it all, similiar to the night out in the photos.
Both were done with my left hand while looking at past work on my dads photos.
A video discussing the importance of 'play' in human development in reference to Winnicott.
Perhaps without realising, the act of play (with the objects and various materials) was a coping mechanism for me during this pandemic.
This video essay focused on how imperfection in photography can add value, in reference to Nan Goldin's work.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (directer Charlie Kaufman) is a movie that explores Sigmund Freuds 'unconscious mind'.
The movie has always stood out to me in how it explores mourning the loss of memories, as it is edited in a way that resembles our thought process.
Edited video/slideshow of my grid painting. Sound clips taken in aldi and in the day I took the chair photos.
Some of the chairs are unfinished, the chair becomes distant and the sound fades out, resembling our memories.

He manipulates paint the same way he manipulates photos by dragging, pulling and blurring. Adding to the illusion of a moving image.
This relates to my concept of memory, playing as subject matter/process and the effect of both representation and abstraction in a painting.
Some work finished off today.
The first one was inspired by Hopkins painting 'storm'.
The second is based off of my mistakes with dried paint, instead using wax.
The third painting is another version of finding order in isolation.
Charles Harper:
Harpers signature style is associated with the grid, this emphasises how each of the figures are united despite being individuals.
This inspired me to put the chair in a grid as each photo of it was different and despite being alone it was surrounded by the other versions of itself.
Since I sat on this chair making art as a child I decided to use the chair as a way of making its own marks.
Process and results from todays work. Since it was extremely windy it allowed me to loosen my control of the water when added to the page.
Reminds me of John Virtues work/process.
Tried a grid format today inspired by Charles Harper.

Using the glass to take some more layered photos.
One hour photo study inspired by Maureen O'connor's work.
Used a palette knife for some areas to compliment the texture of the masking tape. If I were to try again I'd take the composition apart and incorporate more white space/masking tape.
Maureen O'connor:
Her imagery is built from accidental combinations of materials and personalised mistakes.
She blends both the abstract and the actual in edited and dismantled compositions, replicating the way in which thinking works.
Again recreating dried paint stains using colouring pencils.
