movement project display
my concept for this theme was interactions and connections with people. I initially started with with body language and then rethought the theme again and decided to go with interactions. As we move through life we encounter and interact with a lot of different people and these connections help define us which is what I wanted to capture through my project, the different moments and people we connect and interact with, candid photographs were a big part of certain works I did.
my chosen electives were;
-painting
^for the painting elective I attended workshops such as life drawing and mark making which taught me how to paint from real life models and also the mark making workshop taught me to think outside of the box a little bit in relation to materials used to paint with since we had to make our own tools. after reflecting on this workshop I made a series of smaller paintings and experimented with different colours and surfaces i painted on such as tracing paper which is translucent and enabled me to layer the paintings beside each other (further symbolising connections). I also painted with coffee, I got the idea while drinking coffee with a friend and I wanted to include this interaction in my project since we have coffee so often.
-Print Contemporary Practice
^in print I attended the relief and intaglio workshop. I repeated this workshop and I'm glad that I did because I didn't have a set idea on what outcome I wanted to achieve from the first workshop but I was a lot more prepared the second time and a lot more happy with the outcome I achieved. I also did the pattern making workshop in which I made carved stencil from lino and stamped a certain pattern with it. I also etched a print into acetate and made my own print. overall print was simultaneously fun and challenging, I found that I ran into a few problems at times and didn't get things to look the way I had envisioned them to but eventually through trial and error I was able to work around most of these issues.
-graphic design
^ I attended the wooden letterpress, type and image, and icon design workshops for graphic design which all helped me expand on my chosen idea for the brief. I think this discipline required the most planning before I could start working on a final piece, as oppose to the other two of my disciplines that I was able to experiment more freely with, the planning for this discipline made it handy to plan on ahead on how to tie in my ideas throughout the other disciplines. while working on the album cover that was assigned for the type and image workshop ai got the idea to make posters and leaflets for a fake band that I created.
