Here are my 6 fabric swatches that i made .I used black velvet, red tulle, denim, green mesh plastic from a potato sack, embroidery thread and rhinestones

I tried to pic out patterns and fabric techniques from my work .The top left piece was mainly inspired by the hanging elements seen throughout my stand work and mood boards

The top middle piece was inspired by Art Deco architecture, through my research i found that this time period in architecture was very angular and abstract with sharp corners and never ending patterns

The top right piece was inpisred by on picture in particular of a 1920s fashion illustration where the model is wearing and coat with huge circular sleeves

The bottom left piece was inspired by the floor in the hotel of Hotel -American Horror Story .I mimicked the colours pallet and shapes i saw using embroidery thread ,this turned out to be my favourite fabric swatch

The bottom middle piece was inspired by flowing gathered fabric in some of my stand work outfits .This piece didn’t turn out how I would’ve liked it too as i think it looks quite messy

The bottom right piece was inspired by the ruching technique i tried to apply to some of my stand work garments , as simple as it is ,I really like how this one turned out

Here are 4 colour/ mood boards i refined all of my research images into .I sorted them into groups based loosely around colour pallets but also the vibe of each picture ,I really like how they turned out especially the bottom two as i love the contrasting colour pallets of the green vs red .I noticed a pattern of a more dark and mysterious 1920s aesthetic throughout my boards which i also really enjoy as i think people associate this time era with pastels and lighter colours more then the darker grungy vibe .

The time period i choose as my inspiration is the 20s ,specifically the Art Deco era which started in Paris in the 1910s but flourished in the US in the 20s and early 30s .I think i was first inspired by this era when researching Violet Chachkis looks .She attended the 2019 Met Gala wearing an Erté inspired dress by Jeremy Scott of Moschino .I then researched Erté and his work and fell inlove with his fashion illustrations .I really enjoy this era of fashion and architecture and fell inlove with it when i first watched American Horror Story season Hotel ,which is full with references of that time ,both fashion and architecture wise

Design Development

I printed out pictures of my 6 favourite looks from my stand work and traced over them with tracing paper to get the lines and shapes of my outfits. Then with help from a teacher i photoshopped the drawing i did of Violet onto my drawn out mannequins so i could experiment with different colour pallets. I didnt love how this turned out so i hand drew out my mannequins using a violet’s signature pose .I then drew out one final fashion illustration of my favourite look i made .

These are the garments i chose for this project ,I chose a pistachio green sleeping gown with black fringe on the belt and a black velvet body con maxi dress .I chose the gown as i was so drawn to the colour ,I love the way it changes colour in the sunlight with the shadows in the fabric being a deep pistachio green colour whereas the highlights almost glow a golden colour and if you look up close to the fabric it has a glittering effect .I chose the black velvet dress because of the fabric aswell ,i love velvet in general but i think black velvet looks the most expensive and luxurious.

Stand Work - I used the black velvet body-con dress as the base for most of my outfits and worked off of that ,i then played around with pinning and draping the green gown to create different necklines on the mannequin.After finding an interesting neckline ,i used the other elements of the green gown such as the sash and the 2 little inner belt strings to add detail .I used two pieces of red tulle as accent pieces on the end of the 2 strings as i loved the contrast of the green and red together.I really loved the draping as showcased the almost colour changing affect of the green fabric ,on the fabrics highlights is glows a goldish colour whereas as the shadows are a dark pistachio green.I also really loved adding the hanging elements because i feel like even when the garment is just sitting on the mannequin,it still has movement to it from the hanging pieces .If i was to change anything it would have been to experiment more with the black velvet dress ,I kind of got carried away with the green gown and didn’t spend as much time fully exploring the black dress.I also would have swapped one of my garments for one with more sturdy fabric ,as both of my garments fabric don’t have a lot ,if any , structure to it ,which wouldve helped me create different silhouettes

This is my muse Violet Chachki. Violet is a 32 year old ,American drag artist ,who competed on and won ,season 7 of Rupauls Drag Race .She is known in the drag race fandom as one of the ultimate fashion queens .She has walked in shows for designers such as Moschino,Miu Miu,Vivienne Westwood,Prada,Jean Paul Gaultier and many more .Violet also attended the 2019 Met Gala ,in an Erté inspired gown. I picked Violet as my muse because I really resonate with her drag style ,i love her way of referencing different eras in her outfits .Everything she wears has such a chic,dark glamorous vibe to it which I really enjoy .I also really admire the way she accessories her outfits ,she always matches the perfect shoes,earrings,bag,glasses etc . to make complete head to toe aesthetic perfection

Movement project Artist Research - This garment named “the Soul” is by the designer Robert Wun .This piece is from the fall/winter 2024 collection .I love this dress as it almost transports into another dimension, the dress resembles a universe glowing with stars ,it reminds me of the photos i took of my earing at the start of my project ,all the different coloured dots moving in their own direction

Movement project- This is my final piece ,i made this from cardboard, embroidery thread ,hot glue,markers and wire. I included a picture of the design i cut out of from a large sheet of cardboard using a boxcutter .I then attached strips of wire which i shaped and added blobs of hot glue in different spots which i coloured with markers ,then i attached them into the cardboard using more hot-glue.I then shaded in the cardboard using a black marker and wrapped various coloured embroidery thread around the cardboard ,for the areas where i wanted to define the circles i used the embroidery needle and pierced the thread through the cardboard to stay in place. Lastly i made coin shapes from hot glue which i let cool on a strip of tin before peeling them off ,colouring them with markers and then threaded a piece of embroidery thread through them to hang them at varying lengths from the cardboard .I designed this pieced inspired from my prints that i made ,I really liked the shapes and patterns the came out in the prints so i mimicked them in my sculpture. I used different coloured thread to capture the spree of colour in my photos of the jewellery. If i was to change anything it would be to have more dangling elements. I also wouldve made the base structure more sturdy with more layers of cardboard or wire and lastly i wouldve painted the base black before adding the thread but over all i am pleased with the outcome

Movement project Artist Research - Yuko Nishikawa’s piece named ‘Nap’ is made from ceramic sculptures,steel cables and lights components. It was showcased at the Sculpture Space NYC in Long Island City , New York in 2019. I love this piece because of all the dangling pieces ,it reminds me of my photos i took of my jewellery. I was drawn to all the colours in this sculpture and how the ceramic pieces almost look like they are floating in mid air

Movement project Artist research - Adela Andea’s sculpture is made from LED lights,neon tubes and magnifying lenses. It is located at the Anya Tish Gallery in Houston ,Texas .I was drawn to this piece because of its chaotic feel ,i love how energetic it looks with all the different shapes and colours all moving in different directions. I also like how it almost resembles a ball of yarn .

Movement project - I designed these mono prints inspired by my photos i took of my jewellery. I really wanted to focus of the shape and line in in the pictures so i replicated similar shapes on the prints .All though the prints feel quite chaotic i like how there is still a flow of direction to them like in the photos

Movement project- Using the printed pictures,i cut up pieces from them and designed this look on the paper mannequin, i was inspired by one picture i took specifically where there is a blurred cluster of colourful lines stretched across the photo .Inspire by this collage design ,i drew out this sketch of another design capturing the blurry effect in the photos

Movement project- I printed out the pictures of the jewellery in black and white and in colour,also in varying print sizes .I traced over one of the pictures using tracing paper to really look at the line in the photo. I then experimented with cutting up pieces from the printed pictures and playing around with them, arranging them in different patterns

Movement project- Sticking with the them of jewellery,i brought in this earing which has a lot of movement in the chains dangling and the different colours gemstones. I brought it down to the photography studio where i photographed it hanging from a piece of fishing line ,in-front of a sheet of black velvet fabric .I used two different coloured lights and photographed the jewellery as it swung to capture the blurred movement .I also used a magnifying glass to move over parts of the jewellery warping the image .

Movement project - this was my initial brainstorm for the movement project .I wrote down dance costumes and how they move when the dancers are performing which then lead me to rhinestones,fringe and jewellery.

Assemble project : For part of my research before working on my pieces ,I went to the library in college and compiled a mix of photographs from different books that interested/inspired me ,i chose these photos because i really loved the imagery focused faces,makeup and expression ,i also really enjoyd the different time periods shown in these pictures.I made this collage on the app picsart
