listen to me. five spent so long in the apocalypse doing anything to fix it because he couldn't live in a world where he never gets to see his family again— he could not fathom being in a world with his family gone. and he never fully mastered time travel, but he risked everything to go back and save them and Good Lord none of them understand that. he's been frequently blamed for them being stuck and essentially has been told by more than one of them that he's ruining their lives and can u fucking imagine how devastating that would be to hear for him. so the casual comment (albeit as awkward as it was) of klaus calling him a good brother oh my GODDDD that shit would've mattered so much to him. but despite how much he's fought for them he still can't handle the affection being thrown directly to his face even though it's what he craves so he gives it back in the only way he knows how; acts of service. doing things for them. in this scenario it's giving in and saying "let's go find ur stupid mother" cause he knows how much it matters to klaus, and klaus grins and chases after him and tells him he loves him because he knows this and holy fuck i'm feeling murderous tonight it's 2 in the morning
