Rewatching the scene where Big Boss "recruits" Chico made me so viscerally unsettled. The way that Big Boss effortlessly reads Chico's entire motivations, how Big Boss points a gun and you can hear Chico's desperate terrified hyperventilating, him saying that Chico has died and now reborn as a "man", telling Chico to give his life to him. Even tells his sister point blank to not treat him as a child even though he so evidently is. The whole scene so viscerally reads as grooming, of Big Boss knowing just the right words to say to get Chico to join his cause and become yet another disciple of his cult.

And the most terrifying thing is with how both the story and Big Boss himself sees it he is only being kind in doing this all. I wouldn't be surprised if the same words he told to Chico were similar to something the The Boss said to him decades ago.
