                  A  surprised  look  flashes  upon  his  face,  a  brief    &&    fleeting  moment  of  weakness  as  he  stood  before  his  mother.     ❛     O-Oh – - Yes.  Is  father  home?  Itachi?     ❜     It  was  as  if  an  unseen  weight  that  bogged  down  his  shoulders  needed  reassurance  before  he  could  proceed  to  act  as  nature  had  allowed  him  to,  as  his  mother  preferred.  

❝ no, it’s just  the two of us for now. i hope that’s alright !! ❞ a soft smiles lights her features, voice gentle; it’s not a look that she prefers on him but she has always been a firm believer in allowing her children to do what makes them happy when it is reasonable to do so. ❝ come sit with me !! i’m just finishing up some wash. ❞

                “And it’s..a bit unmanly, isn’t it?” but that doesn’t seem to bother him–he gladly takes the dango this time, takes a small bite before setting it down on a plate. “I think that’s a bit silly though–to say a food is manly or not. I just don’t have much of an appetite, so when I do I should focus it on foods that will make me strong, right?” he is a child. He, for now, cannot feel the strain that she does, cannot understand why she insists on spoiling him. “I’m an anbu agent now, so I shouldn’t…”

– she seems pleased as he allows himself to indulge on the treat, lips curling into a soft smile as she watches her eldest. it’s his question that makes her P A U S E, brows drawing downwards in concern.  ❝ you are an anbu agent, yes. but first and foremost you are uchiha itachi. focus on your training, focus on improving your skills ... but don’t lose yourself in the process. it’s important to eat balanced meals, but treats every now and then are just as important !! ❞

                “I’d rather help put the groceries away first, mother,” a hand held up to deny the offer, he hands her one of the bags, then begins to put the contents of another way up in shelves. “Besides…” averting his gaze, Itachi lowers his voice. “It isn’t good for my physique to eat too many..I’m a shinobi.”

– her heart clenches as he speaks. yes, it’s true that he is a shinobi. yes, it is true that he is skilled and talented, but first in foremost he is a child -- HER child, wide-eyed and gentle and kind -- and he should be able to behave as such. ❝ i was a shinobi too, you know. and a few sweets here and there never damaged my physique or hurt my skills. it’s good to reward yourself every now and then. ❞

– CONSIDER mikoto picking him up sweets any time she’s out of the house???  she also loves sweets and it’s something they can share together – something that she yearns for as he begins to become more of an adult even though he’s just a child. in fact, it’s often that mikoto will take itachi shopping with her, pick up some sweets, and just really talk to her oldest child.
