R.I.P. STEVE BARROW [ 1945 ☆ 2026 ]. Saddened to learn of the passing of this leading expert on Jamaican music, author, journalist, curator, record producer, and wonderful mentor whom I met several times in the 1990's and 2000's. We have lost an inexhaustible source of knowledge; without him, there would have been no serious reissue policy in the 80's at Island Records, Trojan, Attack, and then the following decade on his legendary own label Blood & Fire... He was also a jazz fanatic. On the pictured here with the artist TAPPER ZUKIE, London, 1976.

R.I.P. Lowell Fillmore Dunbar also known as SLY DUNBAR [ 1952 ☆ 2026 ]. Half of legendary duo Sly & Robbie, he was one of Jamaica's finest drummers and an outstanding music producer.

On the photograph with music mate ROBBIE SHAKESPEARE gone four years ago, in December 2021. Hard to process.

R.I.P., STEPHEN "CAT" COORE [ 1956 ☆ 2026 ]. Member of the most important group in my musical education, and more specifically in my education in the incredible and so rich jamaican music…

Original member of the Inner Circle band with Ibo Cooper, Ian and Roger Lewis, he heft Inner Circle in '72 to form fusion reggae band Third World with Ibo. It takes me back to Jérôme Laperrousaz's documentary "Prisoner in the Street"; it's aged a bit now but it made a big impression on me when I saw it when it came out in cinemas in France, Spring '80, I was 9 years old.

I'm also thinking of BUNNY RUGS, CARROT and IBO.
