"كل الجِراحِ إذا داويتَها بَرِئت إلا الفِراقُ فجُرحٌ غيرُ مُلتئمِ".
All wounds, if you treat them, will heal.
Except separation, which is an unhealed wound.
“I will not think less of myself just because you do not know how to love me.”
— Unknown
“If you don’t get what you want, you suffer; if you get what you don’t want, you suffer; even when you get exactly what you want, you still suffer because you can’t hold on to it forever. Your mind is your predicament. It wants to be free of change. Free of pain, free of the obligations of life and death. But change is law and no amount of pretending will alter that reality.”
— Socrates
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله says,
The pleasures of worldly life are like the dreams of a sleeper or the fleeting shade.
If it brings some laughter, it also brings many tears. If it gives a day of happiness, it brings a year of despair.
If it offers a brief moment of delight, it also holds one back for a long time. There is no house filled with joy that does not also contain sorrow and tears.
[Fear the Temptations of the Dunya]
People’s condition fluctuates between closeness to Allāh and comfort, and distance from Him and unease. However, blessed is the one who is endowed with a self-reproaching soul (Nafs ul lawammah) that cannot tolerate disobedience. Such a person’s soul quickly feels distressed when committing sin and finds relief only in repentance.
"Congratulations to those who leave the world before it deserts them; to those who build their graves before they enter them; and to those who please their Lord before they meet Him."
- Yahya ibn Mu'adh
Ibn al-Qayyim رحمه الله:
"The whole world from its beginning until its end is not worth an hour of sadness, so what about the sadness of a whole life...
What we love today will catch up with what we hate tomorrow, and what we hate today will catch up with what we love tomorrow."
[al-Fawāʾid: p.71]
"وإخلاص القلوب هو ما يهم."
"It is the sincerity of hearts that matters."
It is He who sent down tranquility into the hearts of the believers..” {48:4}
Imam Ahmad رحمه الله said:
“I have seen that loneliness is more comfortable for my heart.”
