❛ Yeah , well , ain’t the first one to do that . ❜ burning boy was always without mercy , wolf teeth bared in a sort of grimace that hinted at his own unease . Shoulders lift in a shrug , lifting a vague hand and waiting for his partner , Striker Eureka , to leap from the rooftops ( & ) land with a muffled thump that reminded Chuck too much of a cat . 

Green eyes gleam like dragon jewels , mouth twisting into a deep , deep frown . This wasn’t … This wasn’t the time for whatever this was . They had a case to complete ( & ) Chuck never liked unfinished business . 

❛ Howzibout we finish this case - - - then we talk . ❜ Shoulders roll into the very picture of ease , Chuck jerking his head towards the opening of the alley way , upper lip smeared with a sheen of blood . ❛ C’mon , let’s finish this shit . ❜

         raleigh can’t deny that his heart is doing its damned best to break right out of his chest.   posture ,  shout ,  throw a fist ,  circle back around to the dead of night where they are at the very moment.   anybody paying attention could name it whether the two liked it or not.   for all that chuck has a pile of emotional issues ,  raleigh isn’t baggage free either.   but with the more years he has on this earth ,  he’s keener to make a go of it ,  throw it out in the open to test the waters  – and they’re already warm ,  he’s aware of that ,  as is chuck whether he’ll admit it or not –  for fear of such the fleeting life they live.      always a sure fire ,  confident swagger to his person ,  raleigh was never afraid of taking his heart out of its cage and letting it see the world from his sleeve.   it never mattered the emotion ,  raleigh made it known exactly how he felt.   and when the world so cruelly snatched his brother away ,  that didn’t change.   his heart ,  still there ,  bleeding on his sleeve.   but he only felt anger ,  hurt ,  betrayal.   for years ,  trudging on with curled fists and sleepless nights.   until chuck’s bright eyes sparked the ash collecting in his body.      so ,  for the first time in years ,  he’s allowed himself to feel something other than pain ,  other than self - directed hatred.   he’s allowed his heart to dust off the feelings he’s desperately buried in the rubble.   and he is terrified.   the logical part of his mind reassures him that this dance they’ve choreographed is a manifestation of just that ,  but also that their feelings are nevertheless very real and very much there.

     and when chuck’s fingers brush lightly ,  hesitantly over his own ,  raleigh’s heart practically stumbles in relief ,  nearly sighs past his lips.   but he holds it in ,  albeit with a hint of a smile.   raleigh gauges chuck’s reaction as well ,  checking the blush tips of his ears ,  the light almost school boy smile.   gently ,  raleigh reacts.   he curls his fingers to softly interlock with chuck’s ,  allows the smile to fully show ,  and snorts dryly.     “  thanks for not sockin’ me in the gut there.  ”      for a moment ,  raleigh’s smile falters a touch before sliding into a smirk.   public displays of affection are certainly not hansen’s style ,  but this moment between them is entirely private  – save for the stars and the sea ,  they are alone.   and raleigh would be lying if he said this moment ,  with chuck and the silent stars and the crashing sea ,  was almost perfect.  and well ,  there was one thing that could complete the bill  –     soft ,  almost lost in the water against the walls.         “  can i kiss you ?  ”           @kaijuslaying cont’d .

rough laughter , warm like sunlight , escapes chilled lips , eyes flicking up and around in an exaggerated eye roll because well , Raleigh wasn’t exactly wrong in thinking that Chuck wouldn’t have socked him in the gut . The stars find their home in Chuck’s eyes , gleaming with mirth and the dying fire of galaxies above . ❛ Ain’t fucking wrong , mate . ❜ He swings his feet carelessly , tilting his head slightly . ❛ Just glad you’re aware that I could’ve , but to save you and your fragile abs , I won’t pull that shit . ❜ Another laugh and he drinks his beer again , fingers curled around the neck . 

They both settle into a ( surprisingly ) comfortable silence , just them , the sea and the stars that danced above that lived and died . Much like they do . At that point , Chuck doesn’t bother hiding that soft , soft smile of his , squeezing Raleigh’s hand gently , swaying closely enough that their shoulders brushed with every inhalation . 

If this was their hard - earned peace ? Chuck was not complaining . 

Although the question startles him , enough that red crawled up his neck with a vengeance and turned his face into a stupid , ungainly strawberry whenever he got flustered . For a second , Chuck thinks he mishears , brow furrowing . And he couldn’t exactly feign hard of hearing since he was in top form , so he just stares at Raleigh for a few seconds . 

There really wasn’t any harm in kissing , but Chuck’s experience with such an act was so far and few in between that he was basically a fucking virgin in everything . God , this was embarrassing . ❛ Uh , sure , go ahead , mate . ❜ He tries for non-chalant , but really , there’s an underlying nervousness that laces his words . And Raleigh’s well-versed in Chuck Speak to KNOW .

i was reading the tags of a post and they brought up a really good point. As I mentioned earlier , a large facet of his character was through killing kaiju and jaegers , right ? They brought up the fact of whether it was kinder to have Chuck die in a jaeger than survive and live in a world where everything that defines him is obsolete .
