A God's jealousy - Lux Imperator/Mr Ring-A-Ding x Reader Part 7
[THIS PART CONTAINS SMUT, MINORS DO NOT READ. Gee, I sure do hope that coworker of yours is ok. Let's find out!]
The actual sun wakes you up this morning. You really needed to get some better curtains. Quickly slapping an arm over your eyes you grumble, blindly making your way out of your bed. It's only 6:30, but you might as well get ready for work. Or, ready for spending your day in Palazzo hanging out with a God. A God who's probably been worrying about you all night, shit, you should get there as soon as you can. You skip breakfast; you can grab some food at the picture house, you're already wearing your work clothes -you.. slept in them? How tired were you yesterday?- you're ready to go so you're out the door. Thanking every God that could exist that your co-worker is no longer in front of your house, you speed walk your way to Palazzo.
The door’s locked? Mr Pye must be out, maybe he went home last night. Hopefully Lux didn't make too much of a fuss, you didn't want to worry the little God. Great. You can't get in now. Just as you turn around to go search for your boss, you hear a click before the door opens by itself. Well.. you guess if strips of film can fly around, the doors might as well open automatically too. Slowly you walk through into the building, still a little concerned about the door. As slowly as you had moved, it closes behind you, like it's trying not to scare you. How considerate.
Down the hallway you can hear something. A voice? It's muffled, hard to tell if it's from a film playing or an actual person. They sound like they're.. crying. Before you can even make it to the first theatre, Lux comes into view a few theatres down. He's back to his usual height, though his eyes are still a bright gold. At first he freezes at the sight of you, seemingly in shock that you're here, though it doesn't take long for a grin to spread up to his eyes. “Sunshine!?” You have to fight down the tears forming at the relief in his voice. As you move out of the sun, Lux sprints towards you, arms outstretched before he's anywhere near you. You kneel down as you open your arms, your little God crashing into you with a sob, you tightly close your arms around him in a warm hug. “Angel, I'm so sorry.. I couldn't go after you, the sun- it's too strong, I'm sorry..” He buries his face into the side of your neck, that area immediately getting damp with the God’s tears. In an attempt to comfort him you run a hand through his hair, the other rubbing his upper back.
“It's ok, sweetheart, I'm ok. I'm back, see?” Lux pulls back enough to see your face, sniffling with a watery smile as his hands move from around your neck to your cheeks, gently running his thumbs over them like you'll vanish again if he presses too hard. One hand moves to the back of your head to pull you down as he leans up, a frantic kiss being placed on your lips. Lux sighs through his little pig nose at the feeling of his lips on yours again, tilting his head to deepen it immediately. You feel a blunt scratch against your chin as he does. Is he.. growing facial hair? Your thinking is quickly interrupted by your God’s desperate whine. You'd stopped kissing him when the unexpected stubble brushed against you and Lux wasn't happy about it. To make it up to him you interlock your fingers with his from the hand that isn't holding your head, your other moving to copy his as you run your fingers through his hair. The God of Light hums his satisfaction at that, breaking the kiss to smile up at you. His tears are all gone and you do indeed spy some stray hairs growing in along his chin. How strange..
Lux brushes his cheek into the hand of yours that held his, eyes closed. “You are back, my love..” He looks up at you, his smile growing… sinister. “And so is the pest that stole you yesterday.”
In an instant you turn back to the door, expecting to see him there. But there's no one. You look back to Lux, a confused expression on your face before you hear it again. That muffled crying. Your gaze flickers between the hallway and Lux, his smile now a grin as you connect the dots. Your coworker's here, at Lux's mercy. You stand up, curious -despite your fears- as to what Lux has done to him. Your God seems to sense that and guides you down the hallway, keeping his grip on your hand gentle to not force you along. 2 theatres down, the crying is louder, definitely in pain from the sharp inhales. Lux nods his head towards the sound, letting go of your hand to walk into the theatre. Against your gut feeling, you hesitantly follow him.
Your co-worker is bound -a strip of film on each limb- to the screen, the light of a projector illuminating his torture. His eyes are squeezed shut but tears flow down his cheeks. The grip of the film must be painful, you can see the indents in the skin where it's digging into his wrists and ankles. Lux snaps his fingers to get his attention but he only whimpers, flinching like he's expecting more pain. “Lux.. what the fuck?” You were horrified by the ordeal but couldn't seem to take your eyes off of it. Sure, anyone would expect the Gods to be somewhat apathetic towards mortal beings.. but this? This was beyond that, far worse than just a lack of care. This was meticulous, cruel, malicious.
The God of Light turns to you, that same unnerving grin on his face. “What's wrong, sweetie pie? You said I couldn't trap him in film. You said nothing about trapping him with film!” His signature giggle makes you take a step back. It has the same joy in it, the kind you were used to, but in this scenario it only sent chills up your spine. This was the true nature of a God, not the loving little toon you'd gotten used to over the week you'd spent with him.
Taking a deep breath to steady your nerves, you turn to the God of Light. “Lux.. let him go.” His smile instantly drops, causing a pang of dread to grow in your stomach.
“What? Why would I do that? He- he took you away! Dragged you out against your wishes and then waltzed back in here!”
“It's not like he kidnapped me! He just thought he was.. saving me.”
“Oh sure! Saving you! From what?!” Lux takes a step towards you, hands on his hips. He watches you take a step back from him, his expression softening. Were you.. scared of him?
“From you, ya demon! Did ya forget how you growled like us like some.. hell spawn!?” Of course this is the time your co-worker chooses to speak up. His voice is shaky, croaky, like he hasn't had a drink in hours (fucking hell, he probably hasn't depending on when he came back) but he glares the best he can at the God holding him hostage.
The God of Light slowly turns to face him, his grin back. “Demon? Oh no, sir, I am far greater than that.” At the snap of his fingers the strips of film pull in separate ways, making the man scream in agony as his limbs are pulled away from his torso. “I am a God. Lux Imperator, God of Light! And you, pathetic little human-” He points at the writhing pest in his domain. “You've really been testing my patience. You flirt with my angel, drag her out of my reach, come back here without her..” Lux steps up onto the stage, gold eyes fixated on the man suspended in the air. “And, as I learned yesterday, you intend to tie her to you with this!” He reaches into a pocket that materialises on his pants and pulls out a.. a ring.
“Your.. angel?” His eyes squint open. “She's yours? What..” He looks between you and the God, his eyes finding the fading mark on your neck. “God, you crazy bitch, you got that hickey from him!?” Your coworker's gaze flicks to you for a second before he screams again, the film strips pulling even more at him. You wince at the popping sound his shoulders make, though your anger at his words bleeds through your concern for him.
“You dare call me crazy when you got me a ring? A fucking ring?! Have I shown even the slightest bit of affection towards you? Ever?! No, you obsessed maniac, I don't fucking love you! And I never will! Do you know I stopped working weekends because of you? No other reason! Just you and your weird flirting I never asked for or reciprocated! And you just kept going! What in this God forsaken world made you think, for even a second, that I'd want anything to do with you?!” You take a deep breath, folding your arms as you look up at your co-worker. He's crying, his head hung to hide his face, like that'll hide the fact you just broke his heart.
You can't help but huff at that, turning your head to your lover. He's already facing you, a shocked expression mixed with a dark blue blush covering his face. Should he.. like seeing you angry? He does, he really does. “Let him go, Lux. I think he's learned his lesson now.” Lux blinks out of his stupor, nodding wordlessly as he snaps his fingers. The tortured man flops down onto the stage as the strips of film release his limbs. He doesn't move, breathing still shaky as he recovers from the hours of torment the God of Light has put him through since yesterday afternoon.
As Lux hops off the stage, you unfold your arms to outstretch them towards him. He smiles warmly at you, the familiar expression calming you. He looks more like the God you've fallen in love with. Though as he gets closer, his gaze moves to your wrist and that smile falls. He gently takes hold of your hand, examining your skin now visible from your shirt sleeve being rolled up as you'd crossed your arms in your anger. You also look down, the dread that had faded making a violent return. Your wrist is bruised from yesterday, your coworker's grip had been strong enough to mark you. The indents from where his fingers dug in as he dragged you are clear as day. Lux moves one hand from your wrist slowly to snap his fingers once more.
Before you can say a word you hear your co-worker gasp as if he's being strangled. Good God, he is. One film strip has pinned him to the screen by his neck, clearly tight enough to restrict airflow by the choking sounds coming from him. Lux gets back on stage, fists clenched and shaking by his sides. Not only had this man kidnapped you, he'd hurt you. Marked you. That wasn't something the God of Light would allow. “Lux, wait, stop!”
“I never promised not to hurt him.” Your God turns his head to you, still walking up to the choking man. “I never promised not to kill him.” You shake your head at the idea you could see forming in Lux’s eyes, reaching your uninjured arm towards him. He follows it with his eyes, seeming to contemplate returning to you, but the sound of the man in front of him wheezing grabs his attention again. “You meant to leave a bruise, didn't you? You saw the mark I left on her neck and got jealous. Had to put your own on her, like that changed anything.” He breathes out an empty chuckle as he violently slams a hand on the screen next to your coworker's head. He's too out of breath to react, only looking up at the God while his hands pull at the film around his neck in vain. He doesn't have the strength to remove it in this state. “She's mine. Can you understand that, pathetic little mortal? Is there enough oxygen in your brain for it to function? She. Is. Mine. Let that be the last thought in your head as you die.” His voice lowers just for the man to hear. The film strip moves to secure around two places on his neck. Then it tightens.
You flinch and close your eyes at the horrible cracking sound that follows, breaths growing shallow as you realise what just happened. Lux.. killed him. In front of you. For you. You turn your head to face the floor, eyes squeezing further shut to push out the images of him laying there lifeless that your morbid imagination conjures up. A wave of nausea rises in your throat as you hear his- his corpse thunk onto the stage as the strip of films releases his snapped neck.
“..Angel?” His soft voice doesn't reach your ears. Lux approaches you slowly, like you're a scared animal, tilting his body so he can get a look at your face. He carefully steps -one foot at a time- off the stage, putting his hands in front of him to hopefully not startle you too badly. Once he finally reaches you and touches your shaking hands, your eyes snap open to look at them.
“You.. you…” Your breathing is still uneven, your brain unable to cope with what you've witnessed. Lux runs his thumbs over your knuckles gently, concerned about how you're acting.
“I..I had to, sunshine. He hurt you. He took you away from me. He would've done it again if I let him go, he was still obsessed with you.” He didn't mean to be gaslighting you about the murder of that human, it's just how he felt about the situation. How a God viewed the death of a mortal he didn't care about.
“You… killed him.” Your brain comes back to life just enough to let you look at Lux's face. You have to fight your eyes to not look further up. To not look at… at…
Lux lets go of the hand attached to your bruised wrist to cup your cheek. “I did. I did it to keep you safe, angel. I already feel terrible for letting him drag you away before, he's already hurt you once. I didn't want it to happen again.” The warmth of his palm and the sound of his voice ground you somewhat, helping you control your breathing a bit. Now that the shock is wearing off, you can't fight the sob rising up your throat. Lux startles at the sound of you crying. Why were you crying for that guy? No, no you couldn't be. You must just be overwhelmed by everything that's happened. “Why don't we.. go see Mr Pye?” Both hands back on yours, the God guides you out of the theatre. He'd do something about the.. mess.. later.
Reginald is in the diner part of the building, a cup of tea in front of him. He was struggling to stay awake in his seat, having not slept through the sounds of his employee being tortured all night. Not that Lux would've let him sleep in your bed. At the sound of footsteps he blinks out of his sleep deprived daze, looking up to see.. you and Lux. You're wiping at your eyes, sniffling with your gaze on the floor in front you as the God of Light guides you along. “What- What's happened? What did you do?” He looks accusingly at Lux, getting out of the chair to approach you. At the sound of your boss you look up, another sob forcing its way from your chest as you practically fling yourself into the older man's arms. While you cry your mix of emotions out, Mr Pye looks to Lux again, eyebrows furrowed. The little God tries to put on an innocent smile, but it fades quickly with you still sobbing. He gives the back of your head a guilty look before he turns away, heading back to the theatre to.. clean up.
With the God of Light out of sight for now, Mr Pye sits you down at the table his drink is on. He hands you a napkin to wipe your nose on, keeping a hand on your shoulder as your crying slowly dies down. “Would you… like anything, my dear?” He has a horrible feeling he knows what's made you cry, so he doesn't ask about it. Best to keep your mind off of it for now.
You nod to his question. “I.. I haven't had anything to eat yet.” You don't know if you could eat anything after.. that. But it was worth a try, you think, at least it might help with the upset tightness in your stomach. Hopefully it'll stay in there. Mr Pye nods at that, getting up with a reassuring squeeze to your shoulder.
“I'll just get you some fruit, you can pick at what you want. Why not a drink, too?” Another nod. “Coming right up!” Even after your traumatic morning, your boss can still make you smile. He'd always been able to cheer you up, his warm smile and enthusiasm towards his work lifted you from the darkest of moods. It's part of what kept you in this job, even with higher paying opportunities around town. You'd wanted to help lift his spirits too, on days when he missed his wife more. It hurt, seeing such a happy man deflate, the same man who played your favourite films for you when you felt down or picked up your favourite chocolate when you complained about monthly pains.
You're snapped out of your thoughts by a plate sliding into your view, a glass of water being placed by it. “There wasn't a great variety in beverages, for some reason, I'm afraid. There was alcohol in the fridge but it's far too early for that, isn't it?” You giggle and nod at that, picking up a piece of strawberry to nibble on. He'd even cut the fruit into little pieces for you. He really was a sweet old man. As you ate your fruit, Mr Pye talked about the people he'd seen on his trips out of the picture house, doing imitations of their voices when he spoke of the conversations he had with them. By the time you've eaten all the fruit on the plate, your mind has pushed away all memory of what had occurred earlier. Now you're laughing away as your boss does a high pitched voice, mocking an elderly lady that had argued with him about the types of the groceries in a shop.
Lux watches silently from a distance. He can't get too close, the sun is beaming rays through the windows onto you and Mr Pye where you sat. It'd taken longer than he'd wanted to get rid of that man's corpse. Eventually he just had the strips of film stuff him into a large dumpster at the back of the building. Now he watches you, smiling dreamily at the way the sun’s light lit up your face and reflected in your eyes. You don't look upset anymore so he steps out of the shadows, putting on his usual smile as he approaches as close as he can. “Hey, sunshine! Are you feeling better?” He keeps his voice low, still worried about scaring you. To his dismay, both you and Mr Pye tense at his appearance.
“Oh, um, hi Lux.” You give him an uncertain smile, waving the hand attached to your injured wrist. That catches Mr Pye's attention, but he stays quiet for now.
Lux rocks back and forth on the soles of his shoes, tapping his fingers together. “So.. uh, how's your.. arm?” God this was awkward. Why did he feel so awkward? He's known you for days! Did killing that guy in front of you mess something up?
You sigh as you examine the bruising. It looks worse than it feels, only a decent amount of pressure made it hurt. “It's fine.. it'll heal in a few days.” Lux nods and looks away, eyebrows furrowed in thought. After a minute of tense silence, he looks back up to you.
“Why-..sunshine, are you afraid of me?”
You have to look at your empty plate to avoid the sad look in his eyes. How do you answer that? Of course you were, he killed someone! “Lux, I.. well..” In your peripheral, you see Lux tense his shoulders.
“You are.. you're scared of me.”
“Well, shit Lux, you killed a guy in front of me! Of course I'm a little on edge around you now.”
He huffs at that. “I killed him for you! He made it clear yesterday he'd been stalking you, or something. He bruised your wrist! He wanted to marry you even though you showed no interest in him!” Lux couldn't understand why you were upset about this. That man was gone. What was wrong with that?
“I could've just said no, Lux! He couldn't force me to marry him. You didn't have to.. do that.” Your fists clench as you argue with your God. Why couldn't he see that what he did was wrong?
“Why not? He's gone now, out of the way, he can't bother you anymore! I..” Lux takes a deep breath, he didn't want to be angry at you. “I don't understand why you're.. angry at me.”
As much as you try to keep it down, your anger only rises as you let out a sharp sigh. “It's not normal to kill people just for that, Lux! Sure he annoyed you, he annoyed me too but that doesn't mean he deserved to die! The frustrating thing is, I'm human! We don't like watching others of our species die. We don't do well with it, even with people we'd be happy to see gone.. seeing them die can fuck us up. Ok?” You take a deep breath before you look at Lux.
His eyebrows are furrowed, in confusion and anger. His fists are also clenched, hanging by his sides. He looks away for a few seconds before huffing again, gold eyes back on you. “I still don't understand. I got rid of him, that's what you wanted-”
“No, no, no! I wanted him to go away. I didn't want him fucking dead!”
“What difference does it make? Either way he's out of the picture now!” Your frustration has you holding your head, taking deep breaths in an attempt to calm yourself down. This argument wasn't going anywhere and you were still angry, scared, upset with Lux.
“I.. I just need some space.” Lux takes a step back. “As in,” Another deep breath. “I want you to.. leave me alone for a bit.” He looks hurt at that, his eyebrows rise and fists unclench. Even with the pang of guilt that forms in your chest your remaining anger keeps your expression stern. He opens his mouth like he's about to continue arguing but then he pauses, the gold in his eyes fading to black as he closes his mouth again.
“I see. I'll.. be..” Lux points with his thumb behind him as he walks back, quickly turning and leaving the diner. Once he's out of sight, you turn to Mr Pye. Your anger starts to fade, leaving you with an increasing level of guilt that you went too far. The sad kicked puppy looks on Lux’s face as he left wasn't helping.
Mr Pye gives you a reassuring smile as he puts his hand back on your shoulder. “Some space between you two is for the best right now. You both need some time to process your feelings about what's happened. Especially you, it seems.” Of course, his suspicions had been correct. He was surprised the younger man had lasted through the night, in all honesty.
You let out a heavy sigh. “I don't want to think about it right now.. is there anything that needs doing?” Your boss gives you a grin, making a brushing motion with one hand. Of course. Though right now you didn't want to look at any more strips of film. At the insistent shaking of your head, Mr Pye hums.
He taps a finger on his chin. “The theatres are still covered in popcorn from yesterday. You could sweep that up.” Multiple theatres? Jeez, Lux sure knew how to make a mess. But it was manageable. You nod with a smile. That wouldn't be too troublesome. It's at this moment you finally realise the exhausted look on Mr Pye's face. Had Lux kept him awake last night?
“I'll be fine on my own, sir. You go home, you look ready to collapse.” He blinks at that, like he's trying to shake off the tiredness that was clear on his face.
“Are you sure, dear? You feel ok being on your own in here with.. him?” You nod. Even after what he did, you trusted Lux not to hurt you. He did just kill someone for you. “Alright. I'll head to bed then. Don't overwork yourself my dear. Make sure you get some more to eat later. Oh, and watch your head on those seats. I've knocked my head enough times to scramble my brain trying to get stuff underneath them ” You roll your eyes endearingly.
“I haven't had an incident with them yet. That's why you send me to find things now, isn't it?” Mr Pye gives an innocent shrug before he stands, patting your shoulder gently as he walks to the exit of the room. He turns to send a quick wave before he continues out of the building. Right. Might as well get to work.
Your cleaning equipment is, surprisingly, back in the locker when you check. Mr Pye or Lux must've moved it, you doubt your co-worker had the time to do something before Lux.. no, don't think about it. Don't think about the idea that his body is probably still in that theatre- You have to turn your head away to stop yourself from looking. It was bad enough hearing his.. neck snap. You didn't need to actually see it. Don't look, don't look. You quickly move past into a different theatre, sure enough, there was popcorn everywhere. Looks like you'll be busy for a while.
A couple hours pass while you sweep up all the popcorn you can find in each theatre. Surely Lux had thrown more about after yesterday morning, there was no way this was all from then. Though you are talking about a God. You keep sweeping, even as your arms start to ache. You can't stop, this is keeping your mind off the possible corpse down the hallway. Keep sweeping, keep sweeping.
Before you realise, you're cleaning in your theatre. It's silent, no movement heard even in the projector room. Only the sound of your broom on the carpet floor echoes in the room. So it startles you when a strip of film wraps itself around your arms, making sure to avoid your bruised wrist. You panic as it begins to drag you towards the stairs. However, just as your feet brush against the first step, it stops. You look up to the projector room quick enough to see another film strip swoop down towards you, securing your ankles together as you're lifted off the ground and carried up. The film strips carefully manoeuvre you through the gap in the wall before they gently lay you down on your bed. They let you go but stay close, hovering like snakes waiting to strike. You flick your eyes around the room until they land on the God of Light.
He's sitting on the desk opposite your bed, his hands in his lap as he fidgets with his own fingers. “I'm sorry if I scared you, angel, it's just that you've been at that for a while now. Don't you think you should take a break?” His voice is probably as soft as he can make it go, his eyes on everything in the room but you.
A part of you still wants to be angry at him but you force it down. That wasn't going to help at this stage. “You're right. A break sounds nice.” You wince as you stretch your limbs, gosh they really needed a rest. “I'm gonna take a nap before I get some dinner goin’. Do you.. wanna join?” Lux looks shocked as you pat a space on the mattress in front of you.
“I- well, sure! If.. if you don't mind?” At your nod he grins, hopping off the desk to flop into bed with you. You giggle at his antics as you cuddle him up to your chest. Your leg brushes against.. something on his lower half, making him gasp. He swiftly flips the both of you over so you're now underneath him as he controls his breathing. “Angel.. I'm sorry, sunshine, but.. well.” You scan him as best as you can while under him. There's a distinct tent in his pants. Ah. He's hard.
You look back up to Lux. He's breathing heavily, his cheeks a dark blue. Fuck he looks desperate. Maybe some make-up sex would do you two some good. “Want my help with that, sweetheart?” He blinks, following your eyes as you look back down to his cock.
“Do you- are you sure? We had that argument earlier and I didn't wanna ask but..” Lux takes in a shaky breath, looking at you with a pathetic expression. “Fuck, angel, it's been aching all day. Since you came back. I didn't want to bother you but since you're asking, please can you help me?” How could you say no to that? At your nod, Lux gets off you and snaps his fingers. The strips of film re-wrap themselves around your limbs, lifting you so your back is against the wall the bed is pressed up against. “Is this.. ok? I've been thinking about using them on you for a while now, seeing them carry you in here drove me wild.” A third film strip slithers through the air towards you, wrapping around one ankle while the one already on your legs takes the other ankle. They then move, spreading your legs for Lux to crawl between. His eyes are on yours, waiting for your answer.
“Yeah.. yeah I'm ok with this.” You gasp as the strips on your legs move again, folding you so your knees are practically by your chest. “Fuck.. more than ok with this.” Your God grins at that, now face to face with you. In this position, his body just about covers yours. He uses this to his advantage, grinding the tent of his cock right against your clothed cunt while he leans in to kiss you. You gasp at the contact, allowing Lux to press his tongue into your mouth as he groans, rocking his hips in a steady rhythm as he makes out with you. He grabs your waist to angle your hips, the apex of his bulge now rubbing teasingly over where your clit is with every thrust. You whine at the dull pleasure, wriggling impatiently. Lux chuckles as he moves away from your lips, his eyes back to their beautiful gold.
“Oh, my love. Everyone will know you're taken after this.” The film strip on your arms lets go, letting you undress as you quickly begin to fumble with the buttons of your work shirt. It doesn't help that Lux is still grinding into you, his head dipping to your neck to draw more hickeys onto your skin. The stubble he's mysteriously grown brushes against your neck. God it felt good. “I'll give you as many marks as it takes for those mortal pests to realise you're mine. Only mine, all mine..” You almost rip your shirt off your body, Lux instantly lowering his head to bite at the flesh revealed to him. At first he's a little rough with your breasts, though at your winces he quickly eases up, switching to licking at the more sensitive skin. Once your bra is off he moves his mouth to your nipples, sucking gently while he holds eye contact to gauge your reaction. His new stubble feels so good against your skin. He lets go to breathe (does he.. actually need to?), eyes half lidded in a lovestruck gaze. “Fuck.. you're gorgeous, angel. I could've had you this morning, as soon as you walked in. Could've led you in front of that arrogant worm and fucked you right there in front of him, really shown him who you belong to.” That shouldn't get you as wet as it does.
Lux growls as he moves his hips away from yours, pulling his own clothes off of himself. Though as you watch, he pauses after his coat and vest are off. His bowtie is loose but still around his neck. Oh.. he looks good. It seems he can see the effect he's having on you as he smirks. “Like what you see, sweetie pie?” You can only nod vigorously, working your pants off your legs as the film strips on your ankles move out of your way. Lux pounces back onto you after, capturing your mouth in another passionate kiss while a hand works its way into your panties. As he traces a finger over your clit your hips buck, one arm wrapping around his neck while the other brings your hand to his chin, running your fingers over the short hairs growing in.
Your hands are moved back above your head swiftly, bound in film. Lux clicks his tongue at you, grinning like the little shit he is. “Oh, angel, can't have you distracting me with those skillful little hands, hm?” You grumble as he chuckles at you, though he quickly makes it up to you by pulling your panties off your legs and slipping a finger inside of you. He pistons it along your walls, searching expertly for your sweet spot. Hitting that spot every time, he leans back in again for another kiss. Every moan you let out is met with a hum or growl from him. His free hand runs over the back of one of your thighs, massaging the muscle underneath as you begin to tense, your orgasm approaching at max speed.
“That's my girl, I can feel you tightening around my finger. Cum for me, angel. I'm the only one who gets to see you like this, the only one who can make you cum your fucking brains out.” He mumbles against your lips before returning to the kiss, groaning as you shake underneath him, hips twitching as the film around your ankles keeps your legs steady. While you come down, Lux slows his finger inside of you until he gently pulls it out. He moves away from your lips to let you catch your breath, moving back down to your neck to cover you in more marks. He really was feral today.
Recovered from that intense climax, you wiggle your hips the best you can with your legs suspended. “Come on, pretty boy. Make me yours.” You swear his eyes glow brighter at that as he rips his pants off, looking down and growling as he lines up his weeping tip to your still twitching pussy. He buries himself to the hilt and, without giving you a second to adjust, begins a rough pace while he holds your hips. “Ohh fuck, Lux.. easy, baby..” You're still sensitive but god the overstimulation feels so good. Lux looks up at that, though he laughs at the fucked out expression on your face.
“‘Easy’? You seem to be enjoying this pace, pretty lady. Besides..” He leans in so you can't look anywhere but his glowing golden eyes. “I will have you screaming this time. I will make you mine, body and soul. No one else will ever have the chance of seeing you like this. All for me, aren't you, my most beautiful light?” Lux begins to alternate between marking your neck and chest and kissing your lips, keeping up with brutal pace through it all. Your body is wracked by another orgasm before he even begins to show signs of getting close to his own release.
You're practically screaming by the time he starts panting, the overstimulation beginning to encroach on pain. Lux moves one of his hands to rub a thumb at your clit, making the pleasure overtake any kind of pain there was before. “Nearly there, angel, hold on a little longer my love. You've done so well, sunshine. I'll pump you full, make sure you take every drop I give you..” You moan at the idea, feeling the knot of a third orgasm forming in your stomach. “Come on pretty girl, there you go, one more. Give me one more, angel. Cum for me, cum for me.”
His words, his voice, his thumb still circling your clit, his cock angling right into your sweet spot, they all work together to bring you to the hardest orgasm of your life. Your vision goes white as you really do scream this time, your head tilting back against the wall. Faintly, you feel a liquid leaving your cunt as your legs shake. Lux moans as your pussy clamps down on his cock, triggering his climax as his breathing and hips stutter. He doesn't even feel the splashes of your orgasm on his abdomen, too high up on cloud 9, his eyes morphing to little gold hearts. As you both catch your breath, the tired God leans his head on your shoulder. The strips of film gently lower your limbs down and release you, one moving to grab the tissue box from the table and drop it closer to you two. You rest your head on Lux’s, kissing at the blue skin of his neck where you can reach. He hums at that, moving so he can get to your lips. This kiss is slower, calmer than the previous ones you'd shared. Even through the fatigue, you can feel the care and love he puts into it.
Lux pulls away from your lips, a sigh of satisfaction leaving him as his head moves down to rest on your chest. “Are you ok, angel? I think I got a little carried away there. Especially with your, uh, neck.” You could feel multiple sore spots littering the sides of your neck. It's going to be covered in bruises tomorrow. How the fuck are you going to explain that to Mr Pye? “I'm sorry.. I got so angry at that guy for bruising your arm and then.. I do that to you.” Recognising the guilt on his face, you lift an arm up to scratch at the hair on the back of his head.
“It's ok, Lux. I'm fine, I don't mind them. I would've stopped you if I hadn't wanted them, and the difference between him and you is that you would've listened to me.” He gives a small smile at that.
“Still.. I do need to say something about.. that.” You raise an eyebrow. “I've come to realise that I'd forgotten how.. different we are. I'd gotten so used to having you around that I'd just gotten into the mindset of you also being like me. A God. I didn't understand why you were upset about his death because I didn't care so… why would you? It was just a human.. Then you reminded me that you're also human. You have morals I never would have thought to be bothered with. Until, of course, I met you.” Lux begins rubbing your sides as he speaks. “You're the only thing I've ever truly.. cared for, besides myself. I want to see you happy, healthy.. I want to be the reason you're happy. I want to keep you safe, I want to remove any and all threats to your life and happiness. If that means killing a human, I'll do it, happily, because my morals only extend to you. The rest of humanity? Akin to ants, to me.” He pauses to sigh, rubbing his cheek against your chest. “But you.. you see them as equals. Of course watching them die scares you, it's a reflection of your own.. mortality. You.. you'd die just as easily as he did.” You feel his hands hold onto you at that. “I can't promise that I won't endanger another life in the future, especially if yours counts on it. But I will be more mindful about your views of the world. I'm sorry I ignored them for my own peace of mind, my angel.”
You lift Lux up so his head is level with yours, hugging him tightly to you. He wraps his arms around your neck, his stubble tickling your shoulder. “Thank you for understanding, sweetheart. I know it must be a lot to process, we really are quite different. But I'm glad you're putting the effort in. I'll try to explain my human stuff without getting annoyed at you again.” You both chuckle, his devolving into giggling as you litter his face with kisses. “And you do make me happy, Lux. This is the happiest I've been.. maybe in my whole life.” He beams at that, nuzzling your face with his pig nose, making you giggle. “I.. I do worry about leaving you. When I die.” One of his hands moves from behind your head to your front, so you take a hold of it. “I wouldn't.. be upset if you found someone else after I was gone, you know?”
Lux looks devastated at the idea. He quickly lets go of your hand to cup your cheek, making sure you're looking at him. “Why would I ever choose another lover after you? Do you really think I could just.. move on from you? You? No, angel, no you're it. You're the only being I love, the only one I could ever love like this. I don't know what caused this attraction but I do know it will never be repeated.” He leans in to plant a soft kiss on your lips, not even pulling back enough to separate your lips. “I love you. I love you, just you, only you, no one else but you.”
You have to kiss him again to stop yourself from crying. Once the tears have receded, you pull back to cup his cheeks in your hands. His antennae are in a heart shape, his pupils are gold hearts and he has the dopiest smile on his face. “I love you too, Lux. No one else. I'm all yours, for all the life I have to live.” Little gold hearts materialise above his head as his smile -somehow- gets even more lovestruck. You can't help but gently play with his stubbled face, squishing his cheeks and stretching them. He closes his eyes, seemingly ok with you smooshing his Godly form.
Your attention moves to the bag on the desk in front of you. Right, you forgot to actually unpack everything from your day out in town. “Ooo Lux! How about you try on some of the clothes I got you?” He blinks his eyes open -now just gold pie eyes-, antennae bending towards you in curiosity. You both look down at yourselves. He's only in a shirt and loose bowtie, you're completely naked. Now's as good a time as any to try on new clothes. When he nods, you start unbuttoning his shirt.
Lux wiggles his eyebrows at you, a silly little sound effect playing in time with their movement. “Careful, toots! You'll have me up for round 2, undressing me like this.” To test that, you tense your walls still wrapped around his cock. His whole body shudders, his eyes turning to stars for a second. “Woah.. nevermind, still sensitive!” You giggle as you undo the last button on his shirt, helping him pull it off his shoulders to reveal that his chin wasn't the only place where hair had shown up. There was a light dusting of it on his chest, along his arms and legs, with a tempting little trail leading down along his stomach to the little bush that had grown in just above his cock. Right, stop staring. You look back up to Lux’s face, he seems as surprised as you. “Huh.. that wasn't all there before. Is this normal?”
You put a hand to your chin, trying to make sense of this. “Well, it's normal for humans to grow hair in those places. I don't know about Gods that inhabit toon bodies..” Lux copies your pose, his thumb rubbing at his scruff. “Maybe.. you're becoming your own being. You've taken Mr Ring-A-Ding as a vessel but now the body is changing to suit you better.”
He now has both hands on his face, feeling his new facial hair. “I suppose that makes sense. Anyway, I don't mind it, you.. seem to like it..?” He smiles at your nod. “I guess it can stay then! Now, what's this about these new clothes?” You sit, waiting for Lux to move. He just stares at you expectantly.
“Lux, you're still inside me.”
“Oh right! Gee, I was wondering why it was so warm around my nether regions!” You sigh as he finally pulls out. Of course he has to help you clean up too. Then you're on your feet, heading to the desk to sort out some clothes for you and your God. Since it's just the two of you, you pick out a vest and shorts for yourself. It was surprising how warm it got in Palazzo, especially when you were cuddling with Lux in all those blankets. Said toon watches as you dress yourself, whistling when you bend over to get your shorts on. You flick one of his antennae in response which makes him splutter and waft at your hand.
You dig around in the bag, finding a little T-shirt for Lux. It's an orangey-yellow colour with a sun on the front. Simple but cute. You toss it onto his head while you look for something for him to wear on his lower half. “Try that on, sweetheart. There's others if you don't like it.” Lux examines it, smiling at the picture on the front before he turns it in his hands and pulls it over his head. You glance over, it fits pretty well. It's a bit loose on the neck but with his little noodle neck it couldn't be helped. He spins around to show it off, a big grin on his face. “Aww, looks good! Do you want to bother with underwear or are you gonna skip them again?”
“Ah, why not? Whatcha got for me, sunshine?” You answer with a pair of boxers thrown onto his head. “Ach! Angel, I can catch y’know?” It's a classic pair, white with red hearts. Lux steps into them, leaning on your leg to keep himself stable. He does another spin to show you. As you nod your approval he beams, scrunching the bottom of his T-shirt in his hands. He seems happy just with them, and Mr Pye isn't here, so you leave him with just the shirt and boxers.
Now you're both no longer nude, you look up at the clock in the room.. When had a clock been put in here? You know there hadn't been one the first day you came in here. Well, there was one now and it said it was 5pm. Jeez, how long had you and Lux been at it? Having skipped lunch, you're starting to feel quite hungry. “I'm about ready for something to eat after that. Come on, pretty boy.” Lux immediately reaches up as you bend down, scooping your God up into your arms before you make your way to the diner in the building. As you pass by the theatres, you chance a peek into the one where your co-worker.. is no longer there. “Lux… did you, um..” You stop walking, looking between the God in your arms and the stage in that room.
“Hm? Oh! Yeah, I uh, cleaned that up! Don't worry angel!” You look down at him.
“Right.. where is he, then?” The way Lux looks side to side, avoiding your eyes, concerns you. “Lux.”
“He's.. in the dumpster outside.”
“Lux!”
[Just wanna let you guys know, I will be, attempting, at least, to put this on Ao3 as well! I recently got an account, Unassuming_Mouse, so don't worry if you see parts of this pop up there! We're getting close to the end of this little series, hope you enjoy the next parts :D]
Uneasy Introduction - Lux Imperator/Mr Ring-A-Ding x Reader Part 6
[Phew. This part did not want to be written. Between fighting the cold I got and some form of writer's block this has taken longer than I wanted. But I have persevered and am feeling bettter! Hopefully the rest of this little story will flow better. Anyway, enjoy!]
Saturday. 5:30am. Your nerves wake you up early, blinking groggily at the dim lights of the projector room. Weird, they're usually brighter. Lux must've messed with them. But that's not a problem right now. For the first time in 5 days, someone other than you, Mr Pye and the God of Light was going to be in Palazzo. You really hope he doesn't upset Lux, there were already 15 trapped souls in the building. As curious as you were as to how they ended up in film, you didn't actually want to see a 16th get added to the film strip. Even if you hated him.
You try to sit up but a weight on your chest keeps you down. No, it's not the guilt of wanting to see your co-worker die to your God lover. It is your God lover himself. Lux is curled up on top of you, deep asleep, a triplet of Zs floating animatedly above his head. In the quiet of the room you can hear his breathing. Is he going “honk shoo” in his sleep? He is. He's mumbling “honk shoo” under his breath. Is he actually asleep or just pretending?
Deciding to test this, you gently cradle the small God as you shuffle to the edge of the mattress. Once you're there, you carefully roll to your side, slowly depositing Lux onto the bed while you slide off. Seems he's really asleep, he didn't even stirr from the movement. Now out of bed, you use the gained space to stretch your limbs.
Your co-worker wouldn't be here until 8, 8:30 if he was still the late runner he was before. Seeing as he was still a terrible flirt you wouldn't be surprised if his lateness hadn't changed either. You're already up, though, you might as well start getting ready.
You'd slept in a T-shirt and shorts you'd bought on your trip out. Luckily, your work clothes were still in here. Lux had put them to the side, neatly folded. You take a glance behind you at the sleeping God before you undress. Even though he's seen just about every inch of skin on you, you still feel that need for privacy while you change. Out of your sleepwear, you start with your bottom half. Underwear and pants on. You sit on the nearby chair to put your socks and shoes on, no point flamingo-ing it and potentially going over. Lux would laugh at you, you just know it. Top half next. You're just clipping a bra on when you hear a wolf whistle behind your back.
Lux has awoken. He's sat up just enough to watch you, his head resting on one hand. His eyes are half lidded, a tired but naughty expression on his face. “Well, well. It's a damn good morning for me.” His voice is deeper, scratchy from sleep. Gosh, that really shouldn't warm you up as much as it does. You giggle as he yawns, little legs stretching. “Don't stop on my account, angel.” The God of Light tiredly winks at you, eyebrows wiggling as he smirks.
“Lux. I'm getting dressed, you silly cartoon.” As you turn to pick up your work shirt you hear a dramatic whine behind you.
“No patty-cake before work, sunshine? I could do with the energy boost.” His voice is even deeper, seemingly trying to tempt you over. You roll your eyes endearingly before you pull your shirt on, keeping your head turned to watch his reaction. Lux deflates, eyes big and sparkly as he tries his puppy eyes on you. Deciding to be nice, you stand and turn to face your God while you button up the shirt. He stares right at your chest while whistling again and panting like a dog, tongue out and all, making you laugh at the extremely cartoonish display. Once it's buttoned up fully, Lux looks up to your eyes. He has a loving gaze in his. “Golly gee, pretty lady. I'm definitely gonna have you on this bed tonight. Right after that other little cleaner leaves, I'll have you screaming loud enough for him to hear as he walks home.”
Well, it's good to know he can still make you blush. You walk over to the smug little toon, picking him up and slinging his small body over your shoulder before you make your way to the kitchen to get breakfast, a giggling wriggling Lux in your arms. While you cook, Lux reads the pamphlet on Miami you'd gotten him yesterday, sitting on the counter near you. At times he points at the paper and asks about certain things or places, listening intently to your response before nodding and sticking his pig nose back into the pamphlet. It seems he knows the concepts of things but no real knowledge of them or what they look like. Maybe that's why he was unaware of sex; he knew the basics of what was required for reproduction but had no idea of the process that brought them together. Just about everything around him must be new to him.
You end up just making pancakes and frying the remaining eggs of that packet. Adding some fruit onto the plate perks it up a bit, at least. Lux couldn't care less, immediately shoving half a pancake into his mouth. You eat your eggs first just to get them out of the way before you go for the nicer stuff. Halfway through your meal, the sound of someone entering the building in a rush echoes quietly. Your God doesn't even get the chance to tell you who it is before Mr Pye rushes in, quite out of breath. “Sir? What's wrong?” You go over to him straight away, concerned for your boss.
“Nobody's going to come in today or tomorrow. Why didn't we think about this before? Oh, why did I say it was today’s problem? Now it's today and he's going to be suspicious about everything.” Shit. Of course, you’re the most recent -and only- person to come in since Lux appeared and 15 people went missing. “Damn it, does he not know about the missing people?! Surely people have been talking about it by now, it's been 6 days! What do we tell him if he asks? What if he sees..” Reginald takes a few deep breaths, a hand on his forehead. Seems your boss has been stressing about this since he woke up. Though what could you tell him? There was the excuse of maintenance being needed on the machines, something could’ve broken. That’s not too suspicious, right? Mr Pye had more knowledge on them than you or your coworker, he could easily make something up that required the picture house to be shut both days. Your biggest concern was still Lux. How would you ever explain the living cartoon in the building? And that’s leaving out the fact he’s a God.
“Gosh you humans do worry a lot! It’ll be fine! Come on sunshine, finish this plate before I do. I’m sure Mr Reginald Pye will figure out some way to trick this coworker of yours.” Speak of the devil. Lux is now holding your plate, a piece of fruit in his free hand. The pamphlet he was reading is.. Nowhere to be seen. Actually, when had he picked it up in the first place? You’d left it on the table, and Lux had never gotten up. The movement of a plate being shaken at you snaps you out of your thoughts. “Angel. It’ll be ok. I promised not to trap him, heck, if he gets annoying I’ll just chase him off! It’s surprising how scared humans get of this little toon body!” The carefree giggle of the God of Light calms your nerves. Right, what was there to worry about when you literally had a God on your side? While you finish off your breakfast, Mr Pye goes to find something that could be “broken” to explain the lack of visitors today. You take the plate off Lux, petting between his antennae before you go to put it in the sink. It’s only 6 now. There was plenty of time to prepare.
By 6:30, Mr Pye has set up one of the projectors to appear as if it is malfunctioning. He tries to explain it to you and Lux but as you both give him blank stares he sighs. Simply put, playing a film through this was a fire hazard. That made a bit of sense to you, you knew just how easily these film strips would go up in flames from your time working in Palazzo alone. Mr Pye had been strict about matches and smoking for this reason, firing more than a few rule breaking employees. Though you knew he himself smoked, the smell and the state of his fingers gave it away. “Well, if you don’t understand the technicalities my dear, your dull-as-bricks coworker won’t in a hundred years..” You snort at your boss’ dig at his own employee. He wasn’t wrong, though. That poor guy had to be shown, step by step, how to use the popcorn machines. After the 5th attempt failed, it’s safe to say Mr Pye offered the cleaning role to him for everyone’s safety. Speaking of popcorn, Lux has a bag of it in his hands. That look on his face is awfully mischievous..
“This cleaner guy’s gonna need something to clean up!” The little God runs off into a different theatre before you can grab him, laughing away as you chase him up the steps and around the rows of seats. There’s probably more of a mess being made than if you weren’t running after Lux, but you’re locked onto your target now and there’s no way you’re giving up. Eventually the toon trips on the steps, an array of slapstick sound effects playing as he bounces down to the bottom, landing face first. The popcorn from his bag has successfully been spread around the room. When Lux doesn’t move for about 10 seconds you -more carefully than he did- get down the stairs to check on him.
Just as you kneel down and put a hand on his shoulder to roll him onto his side, the God of Light jumps up onto you and knocks you down. He growls playfully as he straddles your middle, your hands locked together as you wrestle. His toon strength wins in the end and he pins you down, chuckling along with you as you still try to push him off, to no avail. You finally give in, breathing heavy, hands pinned besides your head as you stare up at Lux. The playfulness is gone, he’s looking at you with the same expression as when you were done getting dressed earlier. He slides up so he’s hovering just below your chest before he leans down, his head right above yours. His eyes flick down to your lips, smirking as he looks back to your eyes, an eyebrow raised. You try to lean up to close the gap but Lux keeps you pinned. The God above you chuckles before leaning down the rest of the way for you, meeting your lips in a soft kiss. He lets go of one hand to cup the back of your neck, running his fingers through the hair he can reach. The feeling of him tugging gently at the roots makes you hum, raising your free hand to give him a taste of his own medicine. His reaction is stronger, a full moan opening his mouth and allowing your tongue entrance. Lux shivers as you lick at the walls of his mouth, the hand on your neck moving to the floor to stabilise himself. He frees your other hand to pull the hair on the back of your head just enough to have it on the floor. Before you can react Lux breaks the kiss and sits up hastily, nearly ripping off his coat and vest. He throws them to the side and leans back down to kiss you again, one hand on the side of your neck while the other runs through your hair. As you lift your hands to undo his bowtie and start unbuttoning his shirt, you feel him chuckle against your lips. Your God breaks the kiss to mouth at your neck, his teeth scraping lightly over your skin. “Atta girl, sunshine. You know just what I want.”
You’re halfway down his shirt when the sound of a door opening and closing makes the both of you jump. No, no way. He can’t be here that early. He’s always late! Lux growls against your neck quietly, though it’s far different from the sound he made at you during your wrestling. It’s deeper in his throat, the growl of a frustrated God that was interrupted during his time with his angel. He quickly dips down to your neck, teeth pinching at a bit of skin near the front, sucking at it with enough force to make you whine. “Lux, we don't have time now.” With a grumble the God lets you go. Once he's gotten himself off of you he gives you a hand up before going to retrieve the clothes he threw to the side.
As he redresses Lux turns to you and winks. “Guess we gotta play our roles for now angel. Don't worry, I'll behave.” He tips his hat to you before scampering on up to the projector room. Hopefully he just stays out of sight. That would leave something for you and Mr Pye to not have to come up with an excuse for. You fix up your clothes and hair before you head off to greet your co-worker (as much as you didn't want to).
Thankfully Mr Pye had intercepted him before he found you, you're able to sneak past them and grab your cleaning equipment. You're not so lucky on the way back, only your quick reflexes stopping you from colliding with the man you've been trying to avoid. “Oh! Good morning pretty dolly! Give those here, let me do the sweepin’.” Your co-worker puffs his chest up before he takes your pan and broom, walking off into a random theatre. Well. That's nice, less work for you. While he does your job, you go to see if Mr Pye needs help with anything.
You're back on film strip dusting duty. When you give your boss an unamused look, he just smiles. “Would you rather be out there with your best buddy?” Your huff gets you a chuckle and a pat on the back. “I am sorry, my dear. I'd have a talk with him if I had any grounds to. Shame he keeps his flirting for when he's alone with you.” To be fair, your words on their own weren't enough to get him into trouble. Sadly you were a woman in the 50s. Besides, he still had that air of malice to him that jump started your heart rate around him. Maybe it'd be best to not give him a reason to be angry. You're interrupted from your thinking as Mr Pye begins whistling, his back facing you as he stands by the “broken” projector. He's doing a pretty bad impression of examining it, seems that acting wasn't one of your boss’ specialties.
The both of you turn quickly to the sound of your co-worker dashing in. “I'm sorry sir but- well you see.. gosh I don't know what's happening.” You immediately tense, fearing he'd seen Lux. “Something, someone.. keeps throwing stuff at me. I've checked every room, I can't find anyone but I swear.. popcorn, chocolates, heck an empty cardboard box came flying at me one time!” He's paler than when he came in, breathing heavily. As much as you want to laugh, it's clear the God of Light’s pranks are really freaking him out. Mr Pye looks between you and the other man.
“I see.. well, we haven't heard anyone from in here.” You shake your head in agreement. “Let's all go have a look. If there is someone in the picture house it'll be better to be together.” The three of you go to the theatre where the popcorn attacks had happened. Of course nothing is thrown now there's more people in the room. As you pretend to search the rows of seats, the echoes of.. tap dancing? Jump around the room, making your co-worker look around wildly.
“Nevermind your broken projector Mr Pye, this place is haunted!” He's now holding the broom to his body like it'll protect him, eyes scanning the room. You share a look with your boss. He's trying his best not to laugh. That doesn't help you, you have to put a hand to your mouth and turn away. While your co-worker is looking at the curtains over the screen, you spy movement in the projector room before a wrapped up piece of chocolate comes flying out to hit the scared man on the back of his head. He lets out a quick high pitched yelp at the contact and whips around. “See, see?! Haunted! Something’s set on tormenting me! Well, I'm not about to let it win.” Before either you or your boss can stop him, he runs up towards the projector room. As he rounds the corner to get to the door, Lux hops over the gap the projector light shines through into the theatre, posing and winking to you before dashing out of the room with his signature giggle.
Mr Pye gestures with his thumb after the fleeing God. “You might as well join him. Keeps you away from the “haunted” guy.” As he leaves the room, you go after Lux, leaving your co-worker by himself in the theatre. He looks out of the projector room to watch you, his eyes lighting up as he sees you go a different way from Mr Pye. You were alone, or so he thought.
You find Lux in your personal theatre, still giggling away to himself. “‘It’s haunted, it's haunted!’” His voice goes multiple octaves higher to mock your co-worker, making the both of you laugh. “Oh, this is so much fun toots! I can't wait for tomorrow, I gotta think of some more pranks to pull on this rascal!” At the sound of said rascal you quickly shoo Lux to hide somewhere, watching the little God jump behind a row of seats before you turn to -as you dreadfully thought- your co-worker.
“Hey, whatcha doing in here by yourself dolly? Ain't you worried about this.. ghost?” ..Dolly? He called you dolly too? Lux peeks over the seat, glaring daggers at the man. Who does he think he is, sweet talking his angel?
“Oh! I, uh, heard laughing in here. Thought maybe.. there were kids playing some pranks on you.” You can't help but back up as he approaches you. His steps get longer so he can get to you quicker, a sickening little smirk on his face. Though once he's close enough that smile quickly drops.
He looks down at your throat, right where Lux had been sucking on the skin earlier. “Who.. who did that to you?” Confused, you run a hand over where he's looking. You don't feel anything, so you furrow your eyebrows at him.
“Who did what?”
“That.. mark on your neck. Looks like a hickey. Who did it?” Your face scrunches up at his accusatory tone. It felt like your dad was lecturing you. Or.. a jealous boyfriend. Yuck.
Covering up the mark with your hand, you glare at him. Unaware of the increasingly angry God doing the same thing not far away. “It's none of your business who did it. I'm not yours.” You feel eyes on you at that. A smile flickers on Lux’s face. That's right, you're his. Not that man's.
Your coworker isn't as happy about that. He huffs, turning his head to look out into the hallway before closing in on you again. You're stopped by an annoying wall, sliding along it towards the stage as the man keeps following after you. “Then whose are you, hm? I know you haven't been out, haven't seen you in town until yesterday. Who have you been with? Who could you possibly have been with?”
“How the hell do you know where I've been? You fucking creep, have you been stalking me?!” You're against another wall, your coworker's back to Lux. As the man doesn't answer and only walks towards you, a deep, dark growl erupts from the seats. He whips around towards the sound, freezing at the sight before him.
Lux crawls over the seats towards the both of you, eyes glowing gold as he stares right at your co-worker. He's not even bothering with the Mr Ring-A-Ding disguise. Just a pure angry God. “Ya think it's funny, scaring a girl while she's alone, huh?” When Lux steps up onto the stage you finally realise. He's taller. The once under 3ft cartoon is now at 4ft easily as he approaches the man who's pissed him off. “Well mister, perhaps you need a bit more scarin’. Tossin’ popcorn at your head wasn't enough, evidently.” Lux has him walking away from you, backing up the now shaking man towards the entrance to the theatre.
“I.. I'm coming back. Tomorrow. I'll get you out of here.” Your co-worker points to you. “Get you away from this.. thing.” Before either you or Lux can react, he seems to decide he'll do it today and pushes Lux into the theatre’s seats to get to you, grabbing your wrist and dragging you. As much as you try to pull your wrist free, even bashing his hand with your unoccupied one you can't seem to shake his grip. Your God gives chase after recovering, growling all the way as he struggles to get used to his taller form, at times on all fours to try and catch up. The lights flicker brighter and dimmer as you run past them, looking desperately for anything to get this mad man off of you. You're nearing the entrance to the building, sunlight beaming in through the glass. Lux slides to a stop at the sight of it, panic rising to his face. He can't get to you. As a last effort, strips of film fly past him to reach for you. Your co-worker drags you in front of him and pushes you out the door, out of the film’s reach. The little God has to watch helplessly as you're pulled away from Palazzo, a hand still reaching out like you'll materialise next to him if he tries hard enough. He stands there until you're out of sight, his body shaking with an array of emotions before he crumples to the floor.
Your co-worker drags you all the way to your house. “What the fuck is wrong with you?!” As he stops in front of your door, you get the opportunity to punch him right in the nose with your free hand. God you'd wanted to do that for so long. As he's busy whimpering in pain and clutching his -hopefully- broken nose, you're free to fish around your pockets for your house key. Thankfully you'd put it in these pockets or you'd somehow have to get back to Palazzo with this guy on your tail. There was the option of going to your coworker's house but at the moment you'd rather sleep outside on the street than be with him.
He looks up at the sound of you opening your door. “Gosh, I'm sorry for saving you from that.. thing! Did you not hear it growling? It could've killed us!” The man tries to walk into your house but you quickly kick him in the stomach, keeping him outside.
“At what point did I ask to be saved?! I think you'll find that ‘thing’ was growling because you're a fucking weirdo! How did you know I hadn't been out? You been checking my house, keeping an eye out for me while you're in town? Don't answer, I don't care at this point. Just know, if I see you again, I will take you back to that picture house and personally fucking feed you to that ‘thing’!” At that, you slam the door in his face and quickly lock it. With a heavy sigh you walk further into your house, checking the clock as you make your way to the kitchen. God, it was only 1. You take a quick peek out the window. He's still there. He's going to camp outside your house, isn't he? Another sigh leaves your body as you make your way upstairs. It might not even be the evening but today has worn you out. As you settle on your bed, your thoughts turn to Lux. Hopefully he's doing alright with your absence.
Lux is, in fact, doing anything but alright. He's moved from the entrance of Palazzo, now hiding in your projector room as he thinks of a way to get you back from that pest. Mr Pye was an option, though older. Not as fast, probably wouldn't keep up if the man dragged you away again. Maybe.. if he can just find something to lure that guy back, he could trap him in here. Make him pay. His frantic brainstorming is interrupted by Mr Pye gently knocking on the door. “Um, Lux, sir.. where’s our cleaner?” His question is met with an otherworldly growl.
“Gone, Mr Reginald Pye, she's fucking gone! That.. that maniac dragged her out of the building!” Lux runs a hand over his antennae, trying his hardest not to take out his anger on the old caretaker. What was happening to you? Is he hurting you? Did he kidnap you? The God of Light clutches his head, still not used to all this worrying.
Mr Pye is silent for a minute, before he reaches into his pocket. “I think that man will be back soon enough. I doubt he'd want to be without this.” Lux looks up at that. In the human's hand is a small black box. The toon looks unimpressed until Mr Pye opens it. Inside is a ring. Lux knew what it meant, he'd seen similar kinds in the films he'd watched.
That man wanted to marry you.
Your co-worker digs through every pocket he has on his work clothes, searching desperately. Shit, it must've fallen out as he ran out the building with you. Damn it, he'd saved up for more than a year for that thing! That was his one chance to get you to be his. Yeah, you'd turned down the rest of his advancements but what girl could resist a ring? There was always the chance it had been lost after he'd gotten out the building, he thinks, as he walks back the way he'd run with you while he checks the ground. Besides, that.. creature wasn't actually that scary. He was taller than it, in your coworker's mind that meant he could beat it. It's not long before he ends up back at Palazzo, no sign of the box. Guess it did fall out while he was in there. With a shrug, he opens the door and walks back in. As he checks the floor, he misses the sound of the lock clicking into place. Sealing him in. Sealing his fate.
[I'm sure he's fine. Don't worry about him, you'll go back to check on him next time! By the way.. you guys ever thought of using the film strips as bondage? I am >;)]
Worry, worry, worry - Lux Imperator/Mr Ring-A-Ding x Reader Part 9
[This is my longest chapter yet. I don't even know how, it just kept going! Well anyways, enjoy! And.. maybe keep some tissues on hand, you know, just in case!]
Lux wakes up at the crack of dawn. When had he fallen asleep? The last thing he remembered was finishing that exciting little book. It was still in his hand, resting on his chest. Lower down, around his middle, your arms have him wrapped up snuggly. He has to lift and tilt his head to look at you, your nose is buried into the crook of his neck. You're fast asleep. The God of Light watches your face, checking for any sign something's wrong. He'd woken you up for dinner yesterday, the both of you cooking together again, before you came back to bed. You'd been sleeping a lot more than usual, he was starting to worry you might be sick or hurt. Even though he'd be happy if you had to stay in Palazzo where he could keep an eye on you, he didn't want you cooped up in here unwell.
What would he do if you were sick? Lux knew very little about humans, even after a week of being around you and Mr Pye. Sure, he could get the old man to help you, Reginald did care about you too. But would it be enough? What if you didn't get better? Both of his hands latch onto your arms wrapped around his front as his thoughts swirl, golden eyes now fixated on the ceiling. Humans were so fragile, as he'd learned with your co-worker. Enough pressure on his neck did the job. If it was that easy.. what if he'd hurt you accidently? At that thought his hands let go of you. His panicked brain screams at him to get away from you, insistent that he was a threat, so he carefully pulls your arms from around him and gets off the mattress, quickly leaving the room.
His breathing was hard to control, a metaphorical heart racing in his chest. Just like the first day you'd gone out. What was going on with him? Lux walks down the hallway of theatres, a hand on his chest as he fights to even his breaths. Maybe he needed a distraction. He could make you breakfast! A determined little grin rises on his face at the thought of making you proud by not burning it this time, a nice meal waiting for you when you wake up. The little God marches his way to the kitchen, whistling Mr Ring-A-Ding’s theme song to himself. He stops when he realises what tune he's making, scowling at the thought of the flirty toon.
You wake up next to the book Lux had been reading. Huh, he wasn't here? There's no smell of burning this morning, always a bonus. Furthermore, you felt much more rested than yesterday. After a good stretch you get up, putting the abandoned book back in the box. Oh, right, you want to go out today. You needed a shower; it's been 4 days since your last, plus you could get some more fruit and pancake ingredients. Hopefully Lux will be more accepting of you being out of the picture house today.
After putting on a cute little dress and matching cardigan, you begin your search for your God. Already having an idea of where he could be, you head straight for the kitchen. The sun is starting to peek over the horizon, making its way through the diner’s windows. Once you open the door, the smell of cooking fills your senses. You make your way into the kitchen, a smile instantly forming at the sight before you.
There's already a plate of pancakes ready, Lux munching on one in his right hand while his left flips over more that were being made. He hasn't even changed out of the t-shirt of yours he'd worn to bed, it’s more like a dress on him as he sits on the counter to reach the stove. His head quickly turns as he sees you come in, shoving the rest of the pancake in his hand into his mouth so he can wave to you. You giggle at the sight as you go over to him. “Good morning, love. Look at you! Could have you as a chef in here, make you earn your keep.” Scratching the top of his head affectionately, you grin at the thought of the God of Light working here. That'd be one way to get customers in.
Lux swallows the food in his mouth as he leans into your hand, a smile stretching up to his closed eyes. All the worrying from before became a distant memory with you here. “Good morning, sunshine! How are you feeling today, my love?” He pulls you down for a quick kiss before he dishes out the rest of the pancakes.
You start eating at the already cooling pile of them, getting one down before you answer his question. “Better than yesterday. I don't know why, I just had no energy. Now I feel much more alive!”
The smile on your God's face somehow gets bigger. “Well that's good to hear! I was starting to worry.. thought you might have caught something, or I did something to cause it.” He looks to the side, antennae drooping slightly as his worrying thoughts resurface. Just as quickly as they appear, though, you chase them away with a kiss to his cheek.
“Oh, hun, you'd know if I was sick. Maybe the tiredness was from Sunday’s, uh, activities..” You both snort at that. “But I'm okay now. It'll take more than that to keep me down.” Sending Lux a wink, you pop another pancake in your mouth. He stares at you, cheeks turning a darker shade of blue. You're too busy enjoying your breakfast to notice how flustered that made him. He has to distract himself with food to stop the not-so innocent thoughts about you that start forming. It's now that he finally realises you're already dressed as he looks away from your face. A pit of dread forms in his stomach, he's now staring at your dress, noting that you've likely not forgotten the trip you'd spoken of yesterday. His eyes dart around as he quickly thinks of ways to distract you, to keep you here.
“Hey dolly, uh, do you wanna watch something after breakfast? Maybe one of those.. um, “lovey-dovey” movies you mentioned yesterday?” The hum you let out gives him some hope, antennae perking up.
“Sure, sweetheart! I have a few ideas already. But I'm not telling you!” You boop his nose, giggling as he goes cross eyed to follow your finger. “We can watch some when I get back from my trip out. I really need a shower, my head's starting to get itchy.” You don't miss the way his whole body droops. A small frown now on your face, you put a finger under his chin to lift his head up. He's pouting. “I won't be long, Lux. I'll be quicker than last time, won't even be gone an hour. Ok, love?” Your hand goes from under his chin to his cheek, rubbing your thumb under his eye. A sound you haven't heard in a while begins to play, that sad lone violin. Oh, he's really pulling every trick he has to guilt trip you.
His hands move to hold onto your wrist, keeping your hand on his cheek. “Can it not wait one more day, sunshine? Please?” He rubs his cheek into your palm, big wet eyes staring into yours. Who would've thought a God would be so clingy?
You sigh lightly, moving your free hand to his other cheek. “You gotta get used to me not being here, Lux. I can't stay in Palazzo all the time, yeah? We humans need fresh air, sunlight, social interactions, bathing. The only one of those I get in here is the social bit, even then it's just you and my boss. I'll wait for Mr Pye to get here, so you're not completely on your own.” Lux's pout seems to grow at that. He didn't want Mr Pye, he wanted you. The violin is getting more melodramatic, you need to keep talking.“I promise, I will be as quick as I can be. Then we can watch movies, make some more food, take a nap, read, whatever you can think of. Alright? Then I'll stay in for a couple more days before I start to stink again.” The violin record-scratches out at that. He breaks away from the hold you have on his cheeks, burying his pig nose into your neck to sniff you. The puffs of air from his nose tickle you, making you giggle and pull him back by the collar of his tailcoat.
“Don't know what you're on about, angel, I think you smell like a rose!”
“Riiight. What roses have you been smelling, exactly?”
Lux puts a finger to his chin, poking at the scruff there. “Ah, uhm, you know.. super rare kinds! Exotic hybrids, you wouldn't have heard of them.” You raise an eyebrow, getting a nervous grin in return. Even while he was joking around, the worry in his eyes was clear as day. With another light sigh you pull him into a kiss, hoping to at least distract him a bit from whatever was plaguing his mind. The God of Light returns it instantly, a hand going to the back of your head to pull you in closer, fingers embedding themselves in your hair. His other hand is on the side of your neck, gently stroking over the fading marks he'd left on Sunday.
Just as you slip your tongue into his mouth, someone by the door clears their throat. You both move away and snap your eyes open to see Mr Pye standing there, looking quite amused at having caught you two kissing. “Really now, in the kitchen? Have some shame.” He wags a finger at the both of you, though the grin on his face tells you he's not actually upset. Still, your cheeks are now burning. Your boss just caught you kissing the God of Light.
Even though Lux is also blushing he huffs, arms now crossed, annoyed that his kiss with you was interrupted. “There's a lot worse we could be doing in here.” You just stuff a -now lukewarm- pancake in your mouth and look away in embarrassment. Mr Pye covers his face with one hand, sighing heavily. Now the little God has a smug smirk on his face as he snaps his usual outfit on to replace your shirt, proud of himself for putting down the older man’s mood.
To change the subject, you offer some of your breakfast to your boss, still chuffing them down yourself. “It's alright my dear, I ate at home. I can't remember when I bought bacon but it needed using up.” You roll your eyes with a smile. This kind of thing happened quite often. He'd told you many times about the things he found in the fridge, adamant that he hadn't gotten it. It got to the point where he told you what he was getting from the shops so you could remember and tell him whether or not he had actually bought the things he kept finding. Of course, he had, no matter how many times he said he didn't remember getting those items.
Having eaten your fill, you stretch and let out a yawn. “Right, I'm going out for a bit. I'll be an hour at most, I'm only going to be getting a few things. Keep an eye on our resident God, won't you sir?” Mr Pye glances at Lux. He'd seen first hand how worried he got when you weren't there. And heard the consequences of your absence. Those screams crept into his nightmares, making him more wary of the God of Light. Still, you've asked him to do something, he'll always have a soft spot for the employee who's done so much for him.
Reginald pats your shoulder, giving you a reassuring smile. “I'll make sure he doesn't get up to too much mischief while you're away.” With that you nod, turning to blow a kiss to Lux before you head for the exit. You quickly notice there's pattering footsteps following you.
“Are you sure you can't delay this, angel, please? You- uhm, you can go tomorrow, sweetie pie, honest, just stay for one more day with me, love?” You've only made it to the employee lockers when Lux gets a hold of your hand. With a light sigh you stop walking, looking behind you at the anxious little God.
“Lux, honey..” You crouch down so you're eye level with him. He has his head tilted down again, antennae practically on his forehead with how much they're drooping. “It will be an hour at most, okay? I'll get you some more pancake ingredients, some more fruit, I'll even find something new for you to try. Just let me go, please, hun? I'll be back before you know it. I won't be gone all day, yeah? 1 hour, Lux. That's all.” He slowly looks up at you, eyes wet with unshed tears again. He's wringing his hands, bottom lip quivering. At first you think he's just guilt tripping you, but there's one key element missing. That violin. This isn't an act. He's truly this upset at you leaving.
He gulps, taking a deep breath before he finally looks you in the eye. “1 hour and you'll be back..?” The shaking in his voice breaks your heart. You give him a small smile, then hold your pinkie finger out to him.
“I promise. 1 hour at most, then I'll be right here with you.”
One blue pinkie (does it count as a pinkie? He's only got 4 fingers) wraps around yours, before he interlocks all your fingers. “Ok. Let me walk you to the door, sunshine.” He tips his hat with his other hand, the tears in his eyes now gone. Your smile grows, glad he's not as upset now. The sun is beaming through the glass in the door as you reach it, making Lux linger behind you slightly. He holds your hand as long as he can, finally letting go inches away from touching the sunlight. You turn back, thinking he's just calmed down enough to not need to hold your hand anymore, blowing him one last kiss.
“See you later, love!” You wave to him as you step out the door, only turning to walk away when he returns it. The tiny smile he forces onto his face as he does so drops the instant you're no longer looking. He stands there, a breath away from the sunlight, watching you get smaller and smaller until he can't tell what's you and what's in the foreground. Only then does he retreat further into the picture house, his antennae against his forehead.
The stream of hot water feels heavenly. You definitely count yourself as lucky for getting a house with a shower installed already, how could anyone not want this? While you get yourself clean, your mind is left to wander around all the topics you haven't had the time to think about.
How are you going to keep this house?
Palazzo wasn't making any money, hadn't made any in a week. Everyone in town was, unsurprisingly, avoiding the picture house after the disappearance of 15 people (16 with your dead coworker). Unless Mr Pye has a bunch of money saved up, it's unlikely you'll be getting paid. I mean, you weren't getting much use from this place recently, Lux would probably like it if you just moved into Palazzo. It didn't sound too bad; you had a bed, there was food in the diner and plenty of snacks in the picture house, Lux seems to have near full control over the building - he'd keep any unwanted guests at bay.
He's getting more attached to you as more time passes, though. If he was this nervous about letting you leave now, would he ever let you out of Palazzo if you stayed more? No, no he would. Of course he would, he cares about you. He loves you. Scolding your brain for thinking such a thing about your God, you turn off the shower and step out. It’d only been a quick 10 minute wash. By the time you're dressed, you have 40 minutes to get what you need and walk back to the picture house. Hopefully Lux isn't making too much of a fuss.
On the bottom row of a theatre, Lux is slumped in a seat with a bored expression. To pass the time, Mr Pye put on a movie for the God of Light to watch while he did some maintenance work. He thought some more light might cheer him up. From the man’s view in the projector room, that unfortunately didn't seem to be the case.
Lux sighs heavily, eyes fixed on the screen but barely paying attention to the film. His mind was on you, of course, where you might be right now or what you might get for him. He blinks as a woman appears on screen, a man's voice describing her beauty in an exaggerated yet poetic way. The little God snorts at that, rolling his eyes. “Not as pretty as my angel.” He grumbles under his breath before snapping his fingers. The film pauses on the image of the woman, then it blurs and shifts. When the picture refocuses you've replaced her in the scene. Lux leans forward, resting his head on his hand as he gazes up at you lovingly. He gives a sad little sigh after a short while, snapping his fingers again. The image shifts back to normal and begins playing again. The God of Light sinks back into the seat with a pout, his eyes no longer on the screen. He really did miss you.
By now you have all the food you'd wanted to get, so you start looking around for something new for your little lover. Maybe he'd like a board game? Monopoly.. probably wouldn't do well with a God. Maybe something like chess would be better. Lux is quite intelligent, even with only knowing base concepts of the world he quickly picked up on the finer details. By making breakfast with you once, he was able to copy what you'd shown him and done it perfectly. He was a fast learner, he might like a new test for his brain to figure out. Chess will do nicely. That's everything you came out to find, it's time to pay and head back.
Tapping his fingers on the arm rest, Lux glances back at the clock in the projector room. He cups a hand around his right eye, cartoon logic helping him out as his vision zooms in on the face of the clock. You've been gone for 44 minutes. The hands were ticking closer and closer to the time you were meant to be back by. An hour at most, an hour at most. Repeating that in his head doesn't calm his nerves one bit. You weren't back yet, you weren't here. Flashes of all the horrible things that could've happened to you have him gripping the armrests, breathing getting harder. The little God squeezes his eyes shut, trying to block out the intrusive thoughts. He doesn't hear Mr Pye coming down the stairs. Having finished the odd little maintenance jobs that needed doing, he wanted to check on Lux. Reginald cautiously sits down on a seat next to the God, hands in his lap as he listens to his labored breathing. “She'll be back soon.” His voice is nearly a whisper, not wanting to startle the worrying toon.
The God of Light snaps his eyes open to look at the man. “She's not here. She's not here, Mr Reginald Pye, why isn't she back yet?” His voice is shaking, unable to hide the panic that was only getting worse as each second passed.
“I.. I don't know why. But she said she'd be out for an hour at most, didn't she?” He glances at the clock, missing the way Lux begins to glare at him. “She'll be back soon, I'm sure of it. You don't need to worry so much-”
“Don't need to worry? I can't do anything if she gets hurt out there and you don't think I need to worry?!” Mr Pye jumps at the angered tone, leaning in his seat to make more distance between himself and the God. “How would I know if something happens to her? How would I be able to help her? I'm trapped in this fucking empty picture house with an old man whose only helpful advice is ‘not to worry’!” Lux's body is shaking as much as his voice now. His fear over losing you was turning into frustration at the man next to him who was doing nothing.
Through his nervousness, Reginald finds the courage to give a sharp sigh. “What do you want me to do about it? She could be anywhere! She could be on her way back as you're making such a fuss about this.”
“Find her! Go make sure she's ok! Do something for crying out loud!” The God wrings his hands, voice turning desperate. Another quick glance at the clock tells him it's been 46 minutes and you're still not back. Why weren't you back?
It's Mr Pye's turn to be frustrated. “Lux, you can't expect me to go out into town and just find her. She didn't tell me what she was going out for, I have no idea where she could be.”
The God flops back into his seat, a growling angry groan vibrating from his chest. How could one man be so useless? Surely there was a way to make him find you. He wracks his brain for an idea, when something truly evil comes to mind. ‘It’s a shame those old film stocks are so flammable’. Oh, it is a shame indeed. Lux is out of the chair in a second, dashing up to the projector room. He's at the top of the stairs by the time Mr Pye stands up, sending him a horribly mischievous grin before he jumps through the hole in the wall that the projector’s light is still shining through. Reginald rushes as much as he can up the stairs, throwing the door open, only to freeze at the sight before him.
His film reel isn't on the desk. Lux turns to him slowly, the reel in his left hand. Mr Pye holds his hand out, about to ask for it to be given to him, before the God's right hand comes into view from behind his back. On his index finger, a little flame sits. Reginald feels his blood run ice cold at the realisation of what Lux is going to do. “Wait wait, not her, please!” As he takes a step towards the grinning God, the flame inches closer to the reel. He backs away to the door at that, looking between the fire and the sickening joyful look he's getting.
“Go. Find. Her. If you dare to return without her, without my love.” Lux wiggles the finger the flame dances over. “You'll be without your little lady wife.” Reginald gives him a pleading look, his hand still outstretched towards the film reel. He only gets a wider grin in response, the flame inching closer to burn his love away.
“Ok, ok I'll go find her! Please, just please don't..” Mr Pye’s breathing is as labored as Lux’s had been as he runs to the entrance of Palazzo. The God of Light giggles to himself, blowing out the flame over his finger. Of course he wasn't actually going to burn the film, he just needed to give Mr Pye a little encouragement. As he puts the reel back on the desk, he looks up at the clock again. You've been gone for 49 minutes. The grin on his face drops as he goes back to worrying about you, his hands fidgeting with each other as he watches the seconds tick by.
You're nearly back at Palazzo, humming a random tune to yourself as you gently swing the bag you're carrying. It's not been as sunny today, the clouds were really starting to build up now, but you still enjoyed your time outside. You can see the picture house and.. someone running towards you..? Your pace slows, a little unnerved by the sight. Even though it should, seeing that it's your boss doesn't calm your heart down. He looks as pale as the day you met Lux, breaths heavy and shaky as he stops in front of you. “Sir..?”
You don't even get the chance to ask what's wrong before he's talking. “Oh thank God you're here. Come on, we need you back in there. Now!” He's herding you towards Palazzo, a great deal of urgency in his voice. Has something happened?
As you quickly walk with Mr Pye you grab the back of his hand. “What's wrong? Has something happened with Lux?” He shudders at the mention of him, practically pushing you through the door. It doesn't move by itself this time, Reginald ushers you to go further into the picture house as he closes it.
Now on edge from your boss' fearful behaviour, you look down the hallway. There's no sign of Lux, not a sound in the building. Mr Pye comes up behind you, a hand going to your shoulder to guide you into a theatre. You both make your way up to the projector room, where the God of Light is standing. He's staring up at the clock, a worried little frown on his face. Seeing he no longer has his film reel hostage, Mr Pye dashes past him to grab it, moving back behind you once he has it. That snaps Lux out of his daze, his eyes instantly going to you. “Angel, there you are!” He takes a running jump into your arms, burying his face into your neck to hide the relieved tears welling up in his eyes. You don't notice the way Reginald flinches back at his closer proximity.
“There, she's back. Happy now?” His voice is still shaking, backing out of the room as you turn to face him. Lux turns his head to look at him, not lifting it from your skin.
He sighs, waving a dismissive hand at your boss. “Yes, yes, much better.” You don't miss the way Mr Pye glares at him as he clutches his film to his chest before he leaves without another word. There was clearly some tension between them. Why was that?
Your little lover has gone back to snuggling you, a pleased smile on his face. As much as you don't want to break this moment, you need to know what happened. “Lux.. did something happen while I was out?” You feel his shoulders tense up.
The nervous laugh he lets out doesn't help his case. “Well, nothing exciting, sunshine! I watched this really boring movie, Mr Pye did some work up here, now you're back! What did you get while you were out, sweetie pie?” He hops out of your arms, peeking into the bag you'd put down when you had caught him. He's hiding something from you.
“Why did Mr Pye give you that look before he left?” He pauses his search through your bag, little beads of sweat forming on his face. He keeps his head down to hide that, giving another nervous laugh.
“I, uh, I don't know, sweetheart! Maybe he.. got frustrated with the machines or something, uhm..” His fingers are tapping along the edge of the bag. You recognise the nervous habit now. There's definitely something he's not telling you. Without looking back, you start walking towards the exit. If the God of Light won't tell you what went down, your boss will. Lux catches up to you quickly, grabbing your hand and tugging gently. “Wait wait- where are you going, angel? You just got back!”
You won't stop walking this time. “I'm finding out what happened. Either you tell me, or I'll go track my boss down and I'll get all the details from him.” The tugging on your hand gets stronger, but you just pull him along as you get closer to the door. Lux glances quickly between it and you, digging his shoes into the carpet to try and halt your steps. It's not working, you're still getting closer to the door. Closer to leaving him again. Luckily for him, he gets an idea. He can tell you the truth without revealing what he did to Mr Pye.
“I was scared, ok!?” Just like he wanted, you stop at that. That was close. You let him lead you away from the exit as your brain wraps around that concept. He was.. scared? Why? What of? “I'm the God of Light, my whole deal is absorbing light for power. Energy. With smaller levels of light, like those,” He points to the overhead lights. “I just absorb some energy from them and everything's all good.” Lux brings you into your theatre at the end of the hallway, sitting you in a bottom row seat as he stands in front of you. “Bigger sources of light, like your sun, give me more light to absorb. Surprising, I know.” He gives an empty chuckle, looking at the seat next to you as he holds your hands. “If I absorb too much light.. it starts absorbing me, in a way. I won't be able to hold this form together, I'd just.. fade. And I don't know how long it would take me to get back here.” His golden eyes stare into yours, they're so bright but so.. sad. “I don't want to leave. I don't want to leave you, not even knowing if I'll make it back here before you-” There's tears welling up in his eyes. “If I came back just to find out you were gone.. I wouldn't know what to do.”
His eyes squeeze shut as you move your hands to cup his cheeks, wiping away any tears that start to fall. “Oh, love. That's why you've never left..?” Lux nods into your hands, sniffling quietly. You bring him into a tight hug, heartstrings pulling as you hear his muffled little sobs. That's why he was so anxious whenever you left Palazzo. No matter what happened, he couldn't come find you. He was trapped here, having to wait for you to return every time. You rub his back to soothe him, your other hand in his hair, doing everything you can to show him that you were here. You came back and you're okay.
As his crying dies down, the sympathy makes way for a cruel fact. He hadn't mentioned Mr Pye. He was still hiding something. Once he pulls away, you take a hold of his shoulders and look him in the eye. The expression on your face causes a pit to drop into his stomach. He hadn't distracted you enough. You don't ask again, waiting for him to spill his little secret. Eventually he lets out a sigh of defeat, head down to avoid your eyes. “I.. I was really worried something might have happened to you. Ol’ Reginald Pye was insistent you were on your way back, but it wasn't helping my nerves at all. I just wanted him to go see if he could spot you.” His hands are fidgeting again. “I.. remembered what you said, yesterday. About old film stocks being really flammable.” A cold shot of dread pierces you. He didn't..
“Lux.. no, no tell me you didn't-”
“I didn't destroy it!” He backs out of your grip, hands up defensively. “I just, you know, threatened to. He wouldn't go look for you, I needed something to motivate him!”
You have to look away from him. A hand goes to your mouth as you process what he's told you. Lux stands there silently, nervously waiting for you to say something. “How- how could you do that?” He shrinks back a bit at that, antennae drooping. It's not that he didn't feel any guilt about it, he just saw that, in his eyes, the pros outweigh the cons. “He's been here, all this time, putting up with all the pranks you pull on him-” You're on your feet, pointing a finger at him as he opens his mouth. “I know you've been messing with him when I'm not there, don't even try to deny it.” His mouth snaps shut, eyes flicking between you and the floor like a scolded dog. “He's supplied you with all the light you could ever want, not gone home for days, done all the maintenance in here to ensure you can get your damn light,” You step towards him, too wrapped up in your anger to notice the way he steps away from you. “And to thank him for all of that, you take the only way he can see his dead wife hostage!?” Your voice echoes in the otherwise silent room.
Even with the fear from never seeing you this angry before, Lux has to furrow his eyebrows at you. “I needed to know you were okay! I couldn't go find you, I had to get him to go outside.” You don't wait a second to respond.
“You could have just asked him! Did that never cross your mind, you went straight to blackmail?” When you take another step forward, he stands his ground.
“He wasn't going to go! He just kept telling me ‘she’ll be back soon, she'll be back soon’ I had to make him!”
With a frustrated groan you turn and take a few steps away from him. Even though the intellectual part of your brain tells you this is going nowhere, you can't find it in you to stop. “Oh my fucking god, Lux, I thought you killing someone was bad and then you do this 2 days later..” He huffs loudly at the mention of that.
“This again? I killed him to keep you safe!”
“Well you clearly can't do that!” It was a low blow, but you hold out the fading bruise on your wrist. He flinches at that, a hurt look crosses his face before he works up another rush of anger.
“And he's dead because of that bruise! I snapped his weak little neck for what he did, he's rotting away in a dumpster now!”
The disgust you feel from the mental image that conjures just fuels your rage. With another frustrated groan, you realise something. Something that will hurt him, deeply. As much as your heart screams at you to not say it, you look Lux in the eyes.
“And what about the next person who threatens me? Or hurts me? Are you going to kill them too?”
“I don't care if the entire human race storms this building, I'll kill every last one of them! You're mine, my angel, they won't touch a hair on you if I don't want them to!”
“You can't protect me from everything, Lux! Even if you do immortalise me in film, it's not foolproof! One flame, that's all they need! Then I'm gone! Forever!” You watch all the anger leave Lux in a second as he comes to terms with the fact that you're right. He'd seen the fear in Mr Pye’s eyes. How had he not thought of this? The one idea he had of keeping you safe. And you're the one who shatters it. The both of you stand there, the only sound in the room is your heavy breathing. Neither of you can bear to look at the other right now.
It feels like something's broken into a million pieces inside of him. He couldn't keep you safe, even in film you could die. He tries to think of any other way to make you immortal, make sure you never die, never leave him. His thoughts are too scattered, between the argument and this new dilemma he can't think straight. More anger is bubbling, directed only at you. You took that idea from him.
After a break to calm down and breathe, you're starting to feel guilty for what you said. You really went too far with that. Hesitantly, you look over at Lux. He's glaring at you, fists clenched. “Im.. sorry, hun, I-”
“Don't.” That ice cold tone shuts you up immediately. “You- how could you- I just wanted to keep you alive!” Now you're the one taking a step back. “I want you to be by my side for as long as possible, I just want to live my life with you, I had one way to make it possible, a way I knew would work..” He's backed you up against the wall. The only thing keeping you calm is the fact you can hear his voice shaking. “But you.. You're the one who destroys that!” There's tears running down his cheeks at this point, but he's still holding his glare. Even as his breaths shudder with the sobs that want to be let out. “I don't want you to die! I don't know what to do! I don't know how to fix your mortality, I don't know if I even can anymore..”
As he looks down, roughly rubbing at his face, you slowly crouch against the wall. “Lux.. I'm sorry. I don't think you can, love.” His arm stops moving.
“No… no, I will. I'll find another way.”
“Listen-”
“No! Why are you doing this?” He looks up, a tear filled glare directed at you. “I don't understand! You say you love me and then you take the one bit of hope I had, the only way I could've been with you forever!”
There's a few seconds of silence, the both of you staring at the other. “I do love you. I love you so much, Lux. I know it hurts, but you have to accept I'm just a human. I'm not going to be immortal, like you, I'm not going to live forever.” You reach a hand out to him slowly. “I don't want to argue with you anymore, hun, please-” He moves away from you.
“I..” The God of Light takes in a deep breath as he turns his back to you. “I need some space.” Before you're on your feet, he's out of the theatre. You walk out of the room, looking down the hallway. He's completely vanished. Worn out from that intense argument, you slump down against the nearest wall. Your thoughts attack you as you hug your legs, blaming you for this, drawing on the fear of him falling out of his love for you. With your emotions all over the place, you can't fight the rising tears.
As you're crying by yourself in the hallway, something light hits you on the side of the leg. There's a box of tissues lying next to you on the floor. A strip of film floats closer from the theatre, slowly wrapping itself around your shoulders like it's trying to give you a hug. At this point you're accepting of any comfort you can get, so you lay your cheek on the cool surface and cry the rest of your emotions out. After your tears dry and sobs subside, the film unwraps itself and retreats to the projector room. You've been hugged by a strip of film. That's a new experience.
Getting off the carpet, you let out a heavy sigh. Lux wants some space, Mr Pye isn't in, you're on your own for now. You follow after the strip of film, your energy drained. Once you're in your projector room, you kick off your shoes and flop down onto your mattress, not even bothering to change out of your dress. You take a quick look at the clock. Fuck, it's only 9am? Good time for a nap.
Gentle tapping on your face makes you stir. At first, your -very much still asleep- brain expects it to be Lux, so you tiredly grumble and bat away whatever is pressing against your cheek. The flat, cool feeling of film has you blinking your eyes open. As you sit up it retreats, floating over to the desk in the room to tap on that instead. You can't see what's on it from the mattress so you force yourself up. There's a couple of apples, an apricot and a peach layed out. Has Lux left them here for you? Probably not, there's no sign of him in the projector room, he's probably still angry at you. Not that you blame him right now, you were unnecessarily cruel during that argument. No wonder he was keeping his distance. The film starts tapping again, getting you out of your self deprecating thoughts. It nudges at an apple, rolling it towards the edge of the desk. Before it can push the apple onto the floor you grab the fruit. You were starting to feel hungry after your.. 5 hour nap - as the clock tells you. As you sit down at the desk you take a bite of the apple, slowly chewing while you watch the strip of film. It's laid itself flat on the desk, the end of the film lifted slightly like it's looking at you. Seems you weren't going to be on your own today.
After your snack, you head down the hallway to retrieve your bag of shopping. Might as well put the rest of the food away while you have nothing else to do. To your surprise, however, when you get to Mr Pye’s usual projector room the bag is gone. You turn back to the door, the strip of film is floating there. It tilts in the direction of the diner before floating off that way. How long was that bit of film? You look down to the end of the hallway, it's still curled into your theatre. No end in sight. There's a literal God in the building, this shouldn't be a shock. The film leads you into the kitchen, where said bag is sat on one of the counters. It's clearly been emptied, now on its side. “Did.. you do that?” Your voice is quiet, half expecting the animate inanimate object to not respond. The end of the film waves up and down in a nod. Right, of course it can.
Just in case, you check the fridge. Lo and behold, the shopping was all there. Literally. The milk, the fruit, eggs, flour, and the box of chess. You have to laugh, taking the things out that don't belong in there. “Well, thank you for the help. Even if it wasn't all correct.” The last sentence is mumbled under your breath. You didn't want to upset the.. sentient strip of film.
While you put away the flour in the right place, you finally notice just how quiet it is in here. Sure, without the near constant stream of visitors it had been quiet before. Now, without even Lux to talk to, it was truly silent in Palazzo. You really have gotten used to his presence, it's strange to be without the chatty little God. Like it senses the drop in your mood, the strip of film taps you on the shoulder. Looking back, you watch it retreat from the room with a wavy motion. Seems it wants you to follow. You grab the chess board and go after it.
You're led back to your theatre. It gently nudges you into a seat, zipping back up to the projector room as it takes the chess board from you. After a short while, the projector clicks on and a Mr Ring-A-Ding cartoon begins to play. The empty film swoops back down, wrapping itself around your shoulders again as you watch the screen. This film's one you haven't seen as often as some of Ring’s other cartoons, he goes to town and causes mischief for the residents and Sunshine Sally to deal with. Huh. Wonder why Lux chose Ring-A-Ding as his vessel. Surely there'd been other circumstances where he could come down to Earth, yet he chooses to take the form of a charming little toon. Maybe, in a way, he felt connected to Ring. Dear God, you're sitting here thinking about your lover like he's off in another country. He's still in the building! But you'd be lying if you said you didn't miss him, even though it's only been a few hours.
On a scene where Ring is up on someone's roof, the film suddenly blurs. You sit up, watching it change as the cartoon comes back into focus. Ring is still there, yet now he's holding a.. um, guitar? Ukulele? Four strings, ukulele it seems. He's looking down off screen, like he had been in the normal frame, as he begins to play a soft tune.
“I'll never smile again.” Holy shit he can sing. Well of course you knew that, he has a whole theme song he does at the start of the cartoon. But like this? He's never sung like this before, in any of the episodes you'd seen. This gentle, deep, loving tone. Is this even.. a real part of an episode? “Until I smile at you… I'll never laugh again, what good would it do?”
He's picked out a real romantic song, too. This can't be part of any episode of his. How is this even happening? “I'll never love again.. I'm so in love with you..” He leans back as his gaze lifts up to.. you. Ring’s looking directly at you, a charming smirk on his face. Why is this making your cheeks flush? Who am I kidding, you're being serenaded by the mirror image of the God you've fallen in love with. “I'll never thrill again, to somebody new..” Ring flashes a grin, winking at you before he goes back to his little smirk. The eye that had closed has gone from black to a vibrant gold.
“Lux..?”
Your voice is barely above a whisper, yet he seems to hear it. Lux(?)’s smile shifts, his eyes fall half lidded. It's the oh so fond expression he's given you time and time again. It has to be him. “Within my heart.. I know I will never start to smile again, until I smile at you..” You're tearing up at this point, yet a big smile stretches your cheeks. After his sweet little song, the projector clicks to only shine a white light onto the screen. The strip of film uncurls from around your shoulders and shoots towards the entrance of the room.
“Ow! You dare attack your God?!” There's 3 film strips surrounding.. Lux. They're taking turns smacking him on the head, like they're trying to get him to leave. “Okay, girls, easy! I just want to talk to her.” Girls? Ah, he must've picked that up from Mr Pye. Your boss always used feminine pronouns for the films and machines, it's no surprise that he treated them, and actual women, with great care.
The film strips float over to you, still poised like they could attack him at any moment. The God of Light sighs, fixing his clothes before he looks at you. He's wearing a nervous grin that immediately falls at the sight of you, still in tears. “It's okay, hun, I'm not upset.” You quickly begin wiping your eyes, giving him your best smile. That seems to put his nerves at ease as he slowly walks up to you and sits in a neighbouring seat.
“You.. enjoyed that little show, then?” His hands sit in his lap, thumbs twirling around each other as he watches your expression.
He visibly relaxes as you nod profusely. As you both lean back and look at the empty screen, a comfortable silence fills the room. Still, there's things you both need to say.
“I'm sorry.” “I'm sorry.”
You look over at each other, bursting into laughter. Of course you'd apologise at the same time. “Let me go first, love. I don't have a lot to say but I need to tell you.” Lux nods, sitting up a bit as he gives you an encouraging smile. “I shouldn't have said that in our argument, about your wanting to immortalise me. I had wanted to tell you, of course, I didn't want you thinking you had a foolproof plan just for it to blow up in your face later down the line. I know it would've broken your heart to hear it, and I chose the worst time to say it. I was angry, I wanted to win the argument, and all I did was hurt you. I'm so sorry, Lux. If you do find another way, I'll be more than happy to try it. I want to live with you for as long as I can, I hate the idea of leaving you on your own.”
Lux takes a gentle hold of your hand. “I forgive you, sunshine. It did hurt.. a lot. But I've had time to think about it, get all that anger I was feeling out of the way. And now I can see that, well, you were right. I.. I don't think I can keep you forever..” You squeeze his hand gently, giving him an empathetic look. He squeezes your hand back, his smile falling by an inch. “I'm so used to eternity. I watched things change around me, yet I was never affected by any of it. Now, with all these emotions, I don't know how I ever watched stars burn out and worlds collapse so easily.” His thumb is rubbing over your knuckles slowly. “And you… I don't ever want to have to let you go. To watch you die. Your beauty, your personality, every part of you, I want it for all eternity. And yet, I've doomed my heart to break by falling so deeply in love with such a fragile being.”
Lux leans over to kiss the back of your hand. “But, finally, I'll accept it. If I can't have you forever, I'm going to spend the time I have with you, well, with you. I'll make sure you know just how loved you are.” God damn it, he has you tearing up again. How much is he going to make you cry today? “I'm sorry for taking my anger out on you, my love. I was scared, so scared, of the thought of losing you. And I still am. Instead of just saying that, I lashed out at you because you were the one who took that foolish dream from me. Forgive me, angel, these emotions are still so confusing to me.”
You pull him onto your lap to hug him tightly. “I do, sweetheart, I forgive you. I don't blame you for your anger, I would've been the same if I was told I was going to lose you.”
He chuckles, the sound muffled against your shoulder. “You will never be without me, dolly. Not if I have any say in the matter. And I am a God, so I think I have quite the fair share of.. sayings.” You both chuckle at that. Lux pulls away from your shoulder to gently knock his forehead into yours. “May I.. uhm, kiss ya, sunshine? I know I was the one to walk away and all, but I've missed you something awful.” You answer him by pressing your lips to his. He gives a pleased little hum, both hands cupping your cheeks so he can wipe away the tears from your eyes. His tongue hesitantly swipes along your bottom lip, his left hand sliding down to cup the side of your neck. You open your mouth and, before he can react, run your tongue over his and into his mouth. As you grab his scruffy chin between a finger and thumb he shudders, whimpering into your mouth as he practically melts against you.
Unfortunately, you need air, so you reluctantly pull back. Lux follows your lips a couple inches, eyes fluttering open to reveal bright gold hearts. “Never let me argue with you again, angel. I don't want to go hours without that ever again.” You giggle as you pull his head down to rest on your chest, leaning back in your seat with a relaxed sigh. It felt so much better having that guilt off your shoulders, the negativity of the argument all gone. There was one more thing, though.
“I am expecting you to apologise to Mr Pye as well, you know.” You get a very unamused look in response, the hearts back to the usual pie cut pupils. “If he even shows up tomorrow.” Lux pulls at the collar of his shirt sheepishly, a nervous laugh shaking him.
“Yyyeeaah.. I don't think he'll want me anywhere near that film of his for a while.” A lightbulb pops up over his head for a second. “Oh, that reminds me, darling,” He sits up into your lap again, a more serious expression on his face. “I'm sorry I didn't tell you about that right away. I knew you'd be angry, understandably, so I tried to distract you from it with my own feelings.” Your hands go back to his as he speaks. “Everything I said was the truth, though. Every time you talk about going out, I get this tightness in my chest. It feels like I can't breathe, even though I don't need to.” His empty chuckle just gets a sad look from you, so he clears his throat. “I don't want you to feel like you're trapped in here, sunshine. As much as I want to keep you in here, where I know you're safe, I love you far too much to shackle you to me. And it's so frustrating! Half of me wants to never let you leave my sight and the other can't bear the thought of it. And yet, whenever you're gone, I'm counting down the seconds ‘till you get back while thinking of everything horrible that could've happened to you! Is it normal to worry this much?”
Cupping his cheek, you nod. “Of course it's normal for you to get this anxious, love. You're still getting used to having a mortal lover. I was also dragged unwillingly out of the picture house a few days ago. I don't blame you for being a little more on edge.” Lux rubs his stubble into your palm, smiling at your understanding. “Hopefully, as time passes and I take more trips out, it'll get easier for you to relax while I'm gone. You can always talk to me about your feelings as well, hun. Bottling them up won't make it any better.” He chuckles as you gently pinch his cheek.
“Thank you, my love. I'll try to explain them to you, it's hard to get a grasp on all these feelings.” His eyes flick above you. The strips of film are still floating there, the ends tilted down at you and your God. “I can't believe you had my own harbinger against me.”
There's that word again. Harbinger. “What is your harbinger, exactly?”
Lux blinks, a look of surprise on his face. “Gosh, right, I never actually told you about them! So,” He shuffles in your lap, arms hovering as he explains. “I'm in a pantheon of Gods, like an alliance of sorts. We each get our own little harbinger to, you know, kinda announce our presence when we meddle in mortal’s affairs. We can choose their forms, most Gods go for human appearances -so dull-. I chose-” He stretches his arms up, gesturing to the room. “This entire building! Even though it exists without me, I now have control over everything in here! Projectors, doors, strips of film, they're at my command!” He has a big proud grin on his face. “Since my harbinger is also, technically, their own being, they can play around by their own will too! And it chooses to protect you. Like I said a couple days back, it must recognize now that you mean a lot to me. So even if I'm their God, they'll step in if it perceives me as a potential threat to you. Like I'd ever do anything to hurt my angel.” The eye roll he gives the film strips makes you giggle as you raise a hand to them. The closest one slides against your palm, curling around your hand.
“You really are full of surprises, aren't you?” You look back down to Lux. He plays with his bowtie, a big smile on his face.
“I aim to please, pretty lady! Take us up to the projector room, girls.” The film moves to his command. Just like the other day, one wraps around your ankles while the one in your hand shifts to get both arms in its grip. Lux holds onto you as you're both lifted into the air, carefully carried to your bed. “Thank you, ladies, that'll be all.” They let go of your limbs and retreat back to wherever they're stored. It's just you and your God again.
His head is back on your chest as he gazes up at you. “You know, I'm worried about forgetting you after you're gone.” You wrap your arms around him as you listen. “I won't have you for very long, to me. I've lived for.. well, forever.. I'm scared that, the more time passes, with the more things I learn about, there will be less space in my memory for you. So, you know what I'm gonna do?” He lifts himself up so he can give you a quick kiss. “I'll tell every civilization I meet about you. Every artist and poet, they'll all know your name. You'll have masterpieces made in your memory, they'll name stars and constellations and planets after you. So no matter how much time passes, no matter how crammed full of memories my mind gets, I will never, ever, forget you. Even if I can't immortalise you in body, I will in spirit.”
You plant a kiss between his antennae, giggling as they brush against your skin. “That sounds perfect, Lux.” The God of Light flops back down onto you, his eyes closed and a big smile on his face. While you lie there with him, you run your fingers through his hair. It was surprisingly fluffy for a God that seemed to do nothing with it. In the peaceful quiet of the room, you can hear something. It's.. coming from Lux. You lean your head onto his, getting closer so you can discern what the sound is. He's purring. Or.. chittering? It's quite a strange noise, a high pitched vibration. More bug-like than from a cat. But paired with the adorable look on his face, you can't help but love it.
His antennae suddenly perk up, the feeling of them brushing against your cheek making you lift your head to look at him. “Have you been in here this whole time, angel? Do you wanna get something to eat?” A smile rises to your lips at his concern for you.
“Your harbinger got me a snack while I was asleep, don't worry.” The little stalks on his head bend down as he relaxes again. “I got you something while I was out, by the way.” That has his attention. Lux sits up in your lap, hands tapping at your stomach.
“Oooo what did you get, what did you get me?”
“Well get off and I'll show you!” You wave his hands off of you with a laugh, watching him bounce up and around the room in his excitement. Lifting yourself from the mattress, you point at the desk where the chess board has been placed. Lux wastes no time hopping onto the chair by it, leaning over to examine the flat box the game was inside. “It's a strategy kind of game, you have to outsmart your opponent and take all their pieces. I thought you might like a little brain teaser.”
He watches as you lay the board out on the desk and arrange all the pieces. “So we play against each other? Oh, you're on, toots! Think you can win against a God?” You pull up a chair from another table in the room, sitting so the board is between you and Lux. He's got a smug little grin on his face, clearly trying to taunt you.
“I think I can indeed. You're the God of Light after all, not of games.” That gets his signature giggle out of him.
“You're lucky it's not him here! The Toymaker would have you beat in any game you could think of!” ..There's a God of Games? What others exist?
“There has to be a God of Death, right?”
Lux is reading the instructions from the box. “Mhm! Well, technically he just got promoted to Godhood, but they were my pantheon’s leader. Called themselves ‘the God of all Gods’. Ironically, he's dead now!” You stare at Lux as he chucks the instructions aside and slides a piece onto a different square. The Gods can die..? He glances up when you don't make a move in the game, immediately noticing the look on your face. “Angel. Don't worry about that. He was messing with a Time Lord, a rather smart one at that, and he got defeated. Actually, quite a few of the pantheon have lost against that guy now..” That doesn't help your nerves. “They all made the same mistake though, they were all looking for trouble with the Doctor. Me?” He swings his legs up to rest them on the desk. “I'm gonna stay here, with you! So don't worry your pretty little head about that Doctor. I'm not going anywhere, sunshine.”
The lax state he's in calms your nerves. You make your first move, smiling as Lux narrows his eyes in concentration. He scratches at the scruff on his chin before flicking his other hand, a piece moving by itself and knocking into yours. His smug grin makes you playfully glare at him. “Don't think you've won just because of that small victory.”
“Oh no, of course not, sweetie pie. I'll wait till I've beaten you to really celebrate!” Seems he's competitive. Let's see if he's got the skill to back up his boasting. You spend the rest of the day playing against your God, laughing and shouting echoing through the building as you both take wins and losses. You forget about the Doctor that Lux had mentioned, he wasn't worried so why should you be?
