things had been moving rather slow in amiri's amateur investigation in the case of his runaway wife – but what did he expect? he wasn't a true sleuth like dick tracy or sherlock holmes. as a matter of fact he just had enough knowledge and research under his belt to know what they'd do – well, at least what they do for the entertainment factor of hollywood. attempting to track his wife down in even a town as small as this worked up quite the appetite as the writer was beginning to learn.

a small town with a population of 50,000 – that was still a lot of people. a lot of faces that amiri needed to look at and attempt to deduce. if anything, this experience solely taught him that being an investigator or a detective was well outside his wheelhouse. a thought that he was actually rather comfortable with considering he didn't have the interest to actually pursue doing this any further than he already was.

one of the locations he'd been tempted to snag a bite at was bucky's diner – it seemed like a quaint little place filled with all the nasty things hollywood nutritionists and personal trainers would tell you to stay away from; in truth, it sounded bloody well wonderful.

hearing the bell chime over the door as he walked in he swiftly made his way to the front counter that dawned stools and the like for patrons to plant themselves at – it seemed perfect for a gent like himself coming in by his onsie. though he did spot another not too far away and he offered the man a bit of a smile – or what he hoped was a smile, he couldn't be too sure of things anymore considering how truly knackered he felt at every given turn – "g'day!" warmly offering the greeting his eyes glanced over the place, "hope the lack of clientele isn't a reflection on the food – was rather looking forward to a bloody brilliant burger."

amiri had grown accustomed to living a large city life and huntsville was anything but a large city. los angeles could devour huntsville time and time again if given the chance – and yet, here he was. smack dab in the middle of the wops trying to track down his (ex?) wife, yeah? sounds like something he would've written for some dark comedy or if he were paid enough some sort of telenovela type drama.

then again this wasn't some dramatic show or movie. this was his life. and he'd been left high and dry with nearly nothing left to his name – thanks to yvie. he wanted answers and he felt like he needed that much.

there was a small part of him, however, that just wanted to make sure she was alright. she may have ran out on him, but he still loved her on some level. no matter how stupid he felt for feeling that way – it was the truth and he had to at least own up to that much.

unfortunately for amiri it had taken him a bit of time to track yvie down in town – bloody ridiculous if you asked him. it wasn't like he searching the entire united bloody states – but then again, he wasn't exactly like the characters he wrote, a cop, or a detective for that matter. still, the moment he was able to track her down – he knew he couldn't wait. he had to pounce on the opportunity as it presented itself and when he caught her walking out of the daily grind with what he assumed was her morning coffee – he jumped on it.

watching as yvie moved further down the block away from him, amiri darted after her, jogging across the street till he was behind her on the block and he slowed down to a speed walk – solely for the practical purpose as to not make too much noise and potentially startle her off. he knew there had to be a reason why she left without saying anything and he felt like if she saw him she'd bolt.

as soon as the opportunity presented itself he closed in on yvie, immediately darting in front of her, taking her elbow gently as to not hurt her. mouth fell open at first to speak but as he stared at her, his words seemed to fail him. the anger briefly washing away because yvie was at least safe – she was there and she was in fact alive. at least he knew that his sources had truly been correct.

it took him but a moment to swallow the lump in his throat down, to get it out of the way so he could speak and when he did it came out far softer than amiri had imagined it would. tears threatening to escape, however, the anger was still there enough to not allow them to go to far, "what in the bloody hell, yvie?" taking a moment he sucked in a breath, feeling himself get a little worked up by his own question. one by the way he hadn't intended on leading off with, "did you know the cops bloody well told me you bit it, yeah? do you know how knackering its been running round trying to find you i just..."

pausing, he lets go of yvie's arm and sucks in another breath as hands roam through salt and pepper curls before running down the length of his face. "can we please just have a chat, yeah? i've been worried sick bout ya, yvie..."

Taika Waititi has made Oscars history.

At the 92nd Academy Awards, the “Jojo Rabbit” writer-director-actor took the prize for adapted screenplay. This makes Waititi the first person of Māori descent to win an Oscar. He was the first ever indigenous person to be nominated in the category. (x)

@emilyshur: Congratulations to the rare gem that is @taikawaititi on a well deserved #oscar win last night! Here are some celebratory #outtakes from a 2017 shoot for @nytmag. Generally speaking, when the circumstances of a shoot involve having one hour with a subject on a studio backlot during a break from editing their huge superhero film that’s about to come out, I don’t go in with the highest of expectations. However, it’s always amazingly refreshing to be proved wrong by someone who is super engaged, present, kind, funny and weird. Cheers to being interesting and making interesting films!
