Back home in America now but still reflecting on these last few weeks back in Ukraine. It’s been one of the biggest honors of my career to travel here on two extended trips this year to try to get stories out about people here to the rest of the world. Behind the scenes, there’s a tremendous team involved in every report you see from here. Thankful to work on this trip with colleagues like correspondents @ellison.barber and Ali Arouzi, photogs @inthr3e and Mohamed Muslemany, our incredible team of local Ukrainian producers who we rely on tremendously to function in every way, our security teams, drivers, engineers, and everyone back in the states who actually get us on television. The Central House of Culture in Irpin, Ukraine was an iconic performance and gathering space in the community. Ukrainians describe the brutal shelling here as part of Russia’s deliberate attempts at dismantling the country’s cultural institutions and attacking Ukrainian culture. After the fires went out here, musicians have still been returning and playing inside the charred theater to prove that their art can’t easily be erased. An official leading the city council’s cultural department told us this (translated from Ukrainian): “We want you to understand that we’re Ukrainians — the bombs, the rapes, the destructions, the mass deaths — this will not scare us.
