“Scout asked me if you and I were married, and I said no, and he asked if you were married to someone else.”
“Is now when I’m supposed to fess up?” Kai chuckled, propping their phone up against the vase on the coffee table. “Where’d he get that from?”
“Well, he knows that people wear rings when they’re married, and you wore a lot of rings the last time you were here, so you’re definitely married.”
“Soon you’re gonna have to explain polyamory to him.” They raised their eyebrows as Amelia rolled her eyes. “What’d you tell him?”
“That people can wear rings without being married. But, I’m pretty sure he’s telling Link that you and I are married, which will be a super interesting conversation next time I see him.”
“You ever think about it?”
“Think about what?”
“Getting married.”
“No,” she chuckled, “because I know I don’t want to.” She paused, biting her bottom lip as she thought. “Do you think about it?”
“A little, but that’s mostly just because we’re constantly seeing things in the news about gay marriage, so it’s a little hard to avoid.” Amelia watched as they picked up their laptop and leaned back into the couch, her stomach sinking as she recounted their words.
“Do you want to get married?”
“Not particularly. I’m not opposed to it, but I don’t need to, and you don’t want to, so I’m fine with that.” They looked over at their phone. “Did I freak you out with that?”
“A little.” She pursed her lips. “That’s just how things ended with Link, and you said it, and it just,” she shrugged. “It brought back some not-so-great feelings.”
“Well, it’s not something I need to happen. We can get paperwork to do almost anything that a legal marriage would give us, and who knows if we’ll even be able to get married in a few years from now.”
“That’s a little dark.”
“I’m being realistic.” They shrugged. “But, we don’t need to be married to be with each other. Queer people have lived all throughout history without getting married.”
“Thank you,” she smiled. “How would you feel if I made you my emergency contact?”

I genuinely don't think Kai would be this cold. Visit Amelia, have sex and and just dump her, knowing her situation with her sisters and her issues. This is NOT the Kai we all know, this Kai just came in one ep and threw everything under the bus.
Caterina and E.R. support #Kaimelia and genuinely seem to like it !?( Not just faking it for marketing promotion) , even the actors like each-other.SO What the heck is going on?!
If greys anatomy actually breaks up Amelia and Kai…oh I’ll be so angry. They really wrote Kai as Amelia’s soulmate, it’s the happiest and most free she has ever been.
Meredith just left. Maggie just left. Amelia was already feeling lonely and abandoned. Then Kai comes in, and it seems like Teddy was on board with letting them do their research in Seattle. The set up was RIGHT there. Why bring up the possibility of Seattle just to not actually go through with it? Why have Kai act like they only work because of long distance? You expect me to believe the same Kai who said they couldn’t sleep without Amelia suddenly thinks Amelia is too clingy?
I’m just saying, if they write Kai off it’s really gonna feel like they just wanted a non-binary character for brownie points but didn’t want to actually have to keep writing for them. So I really hope they prove me wrong and they keep Kai and Kaimelia around
"Toss me that blanket," Kai pointed towards the arm of the couch, and Amelia tossed them the green throw blanket. "Okay, we're all set."
They stepped back and placed their hands on their hips, looking at their creation with pride.
"It's beautiful," Amelia grinned. She rounded the structure and kneeled. "You coming inside?"
Kai dropped onto their hands and knees and crawled into the pillow fort, laying their head on Amelia's lap after cautiously moving around. "You're really good at pillow forts," she chuckled, threading her fingers into their hair.
"You get a lot of practice being the designated babysitter at every family holiday, so I've pretty much mastered the craft at this point. But, I may have to work on making it more adult-sized."
"You just wanted an excuse to snuggle up, huh?" She pressed her thumbs into their temples. "I like it; it's calm in here."
"I think it's sorta healing for my inner child. Build a pillow fort and hide in it all day? Wonderful." They shut their eyes and smiled. "How about we grab some snacks and a computer? Have a little movie night in the pillow fort?"
