@kaiserdist
who makes bad decisions??? me. thatâs who. but for the low, low price of nothing, you too can make a bad decision by following me, with this brand new blog for anise tatlin of tales of the abyss! written by kali, please leave your wallets & purses at the door theyâll totally be there when you leave
oh JadeâŠ
He'll just-- nonchalantly start braiding strands of hair on the side of Dist's head. This is why Jade should never be bored.
Dist shoots him a skeptical look, but heâs not shoving Jade away just yet. Of all the ways for Jade to get up close and personalâŠthis really isnât what Dist was expecting.
âIs this another prank? Or are you into doing hair now?â
bloodyhowlings:
âIs this one going toâŠbreak too?â She asked, cocking her head to the side like a curious puppy. Would Dist be upset if she told him that sheâd like some of the metal for her friends to chew on? Maybe sheâd take a piece in secret when he wasnât looking.
âLargo told me that he thinks you should be working harder.â
âThatâs not out of the question.â Ariettaâs on the right track. Realistically, this robot is going to end up as a pile of scrap...just like all the other ones. âBut if it breaks, Iâll just rebuild it.â Which is the perk to working with fontech.Â
Dist lets out a bark of laughter at the mention of Largo. âHe does, does he? That brute canât even understand what Iâm doing here! He should keep his thoughts to himself.â
war-mmachine:
âCanât take a joke? I really thought you would have developed thicker skin by now. By the looks of it, the only thing thicker is your head.â
âJust...shut up!â
tomodachiguy:
He didnât believe those words when they were first said, long before this, and heâs not sure he believes them, now. Dist follows most orders without care because they donât affect him. Heâs a better soldier in many ways than some of these âwarriorsâ. But alsoâŠ
âOf course. I wouldnât take up your time for something like that.â
He stands from his seat to contemplatively walk the perimeter of the room until heâs settled in front of an open window. The breeze off of the sea is cool enough to dampen the hot summer day, and he takes it in for a second before returning his attention to the conversation.
âEverything is proceeding according to plan.â As pleased as he is with it, he doesnât seem overly confident. âWith it will bring more difficulties. More battles. Iâm not going to ignore the obvious conflict of interest here.â Still, the expression he wears is of concerned friend.
âAre you capable of killing Jade? And before you try to avoid the real question, I donât mean physically.â
Dist follows Guy to the window, trailing after him like a dog on a leash. Between the bright day outside and the gentle sea breeze, thereâs an overwhelming sense of tranquility that belies the intensity of what comes next.
When Guy voices his question, Dist feels like the floor has been ripped out from under him.
For one second, two seconds, three â he canât breathe, something is squeezing his chest like a vise.Â
â...What?â His arms fall to his sides, hands unconsciously clenching into fists, nails digging into his palms despite the gloves heâs wearing.
âWhyââ He fumbles for the words to voice his concern. âDoes Jade need to be killed?â Does it have to be me? Â
Part of him is terribly afraid. Afraid that Guy will say âyou mustâ. Afraid that he will take any question as a personal affront. Does he understand that, in so many ways, Jade is the irrevocable center of Distâs own universe? Even now, Dist revolves around him, unerring. Itâs an unspoken fact; how things have always been, and how they will always be.
âIâm afraid I donât understand why youâre asking.â
war-mmachine:
âOh. Dist. I didnât see you there. What hole have you crawled out of?â
âI am not going to encourage that train of thought. Quit playing around.â
bloodyhowlings:
@kaiserdist
A small whine, something so high pitched that it was barely audible, left her throat. She looked up at the strange, but still impressive machine Dist had finished working on. She wasnât allowed to touch it, Dist would get angry with her and start to yell.
But those things were interesting! They moved around and they could attack a lot like her friends could. Sometimes they were even warm like they were alive! But they never said anything to Arietta.
ââŠIs this one going to fight too?â
Dist glances over at Arietta â the girl looks even smaller than usual, in comparison with the huge machine standing before her. Heâs not really sure why sheâs so interested. Does she understand that itâs not really alive in the same way as her beastly friends? At least sheâs not touching it without permission again.Â
âYes, it is,â he answers simply. Itâs a weapon, more or less. What else would it be doing? Well...he has some ideas on that subject, but theyâre best reserved for another time. And another audience. âThatâs what I built it for.â
war-mmachine:
âWas that the wind? My, itâs quite drafty in here.â
âI am. Right. Here. Donât ignore me!â
war-mmachine:
ââŠThis is already too much for my poor soul to take.â
â.....Hey.âÂ
tomodachiguy:
âRight on time.â Itâs said as way of greeting, accompanied with that usual, even smile and a gesture for the God General to enter his study. Truthfully, Dist was a little earlyâbut thatâs no concern. Guy appreciates punctuality. âThanks for taking the time to meet with me. Donât worry, Iâll try to be quick.â
Of course, that depends heavily on Dist himself. If he chooses to argue or debate over something, then heâll extend this out longer than it needs to be. Guyâs anticipating it, thoughâDist may agree obediently when itâs something thatâs none of his concern ( as most things tend to be ) but when something close to his heart is brought into question, can he really still be so docile?
âWeâre getting close, you know. Everythingâs coming together pretty well, donât you think?â
@kaiserdist
Dist makes his entrance with a theatrical bow in the doorway. âItâs no trouble,â he affirms, before sauntering over to Guy himself. âI am at your service, as always.â
He stands at attention (well, his version of attention), hands clasped behind his back. Dist is well-known for his fickle nature, and his loyalties are just as mercurial. But Guy is, apparently, one of the few exceptions to this. To say that Dist respects him is perhaps an exaggeration, but heâs a step up from Van, at any rate. Guy is good to him â doesnât treat him as a poor replacement for Jade, doesnât laugh at him or dismiss his ideas outright â and that is enough to gain Distâs obedience in return.
âYouâre quite right. All is proceeding smoothly. Is there anything, in particular, that you wanted to inquire about?â
         This monster lies trapped in her own nightmare
                'Heâ is a tyrant,                                I let out a plea
          Why did you have to leave me all alone?
akashicgale:
âVan is the reason we came together as generals, regardless of our individual goals. I want to know if he survived and if we have the means to still make that replica world Van wasâis so dead-set on.â Sync shrugged. If Van was dead then what was the point of continuing on? Sync just turned back to looking at the ship.
âWe didnât have any way to figure it out. Can you open the ship up?â
âRight. Of course.â Dist said, without putting any particular effort into sounding convincing. Heâs always followed his own whims, of course. The idea of Van uniting him with anyone is a ridiculous idea, something the Commandant himself likely invented!
...The ship? Oh. Good point, Sync. Train of thought derailed, Dist nodded and stepped to the side of the craft, punching a combination into a (somewhat) disguised keypad. A beep of recognition responded, and a hatch swung open. âHere you go.â He gestured toward the doorway. âReplicas first.â
akashicgale:
Well, if Dist was that confident then Sync saw no reason to worry. The man was known for his way with fon tech. He wasnât even going to begin to ask him how it workedâif he didnât understand fon tech, he wouldnât understand this.Â
âAs long as Van survived, nothing else matters.â Well, itâd be helpful to have a few of the other Generals aroundâŠbutâwell. Auldrant was gone? What was the point anymore?
âOther worlds, huh⊠Did you ever look into anything like this?â
âYou really just care about Van?â Dist couldnât help but scoff. Heâd figured as much...but why canât Sync just enjoy his freedom while he has it? Still â Dist has his own person he wants to find, whether Van is alive or not.Â
âThe idea of other worlds has been suggested by some researchers, but it was something many people didnât believe in. And the vast majority of all our other problems were, as you know, closer to home.â He shrugged. âI didnât see the point in studying it.â
akashicgale:
@kaiserdist
âAre you sure this thing can fly?â He asked, looking at the machine skeptically. Even for Distâs workâŠthis was⊠Well, it was certainly colorful. It also seemed like over half of itâs construction was just guns. Definitely Distâs handiwork. The replica crossed his arms and turned back to the older man.
â⊠You really believe what they said? About Auldrant being gone?â
âOf course I am!â Dist grinned as he stood proudly in front of his latest creation. âThis is a new medium, but the basics are simple enough. Itâll work perfectly!â Between his own knowledge, and the instruction from the person whoâd been kind enough to lend them some materials to get started, making the ship had been almost easy.Â
However, despite his optimistic attitude, Syncâs questions about Auldrant brought him pause. âWell...â Dist admitted, âIt sounds likely, but I imagine other people survived, just like we did.â
