Final Portfolio

“Forgotten Spaces”

For my final portfolio, I plan on doing photos in the theme of “forgotten spaces”. With quarantine, I feel many of us have stopped being motivated to do new things or continue our hobbies, even if we have more time than usual to do them. I want to capture the objects that have been left behind if they are hobbies or routines that have been forgotten, if that is bringing your laundry back to your room or not finishing a painting. I want to capture these images and edit them to make the room more dark and dramatic, in order to bring the viewers attention to the emptiness of the room. No people to explore new hobbies and continue old. These photos were not done using a certain technique, like multiple exposure, panorama, or HDR, but I think for my next shoot I will try and do HDR photos as well because I think that may add to the drama and with lighting often not being consistent in HDR photos, that could add to the photos by showing the confusing world we are currently living in.

Portfolio #3

Photos 1 and 2 are panorama, photos 3 and 4 are HDR and photos 5 and 6 are composite/multiple exposure.

HDR photos. The last two photos are of my job and I call them “Go the fuck home”. I don’t normally feel scared to go to my job, but as of the past few weeks I have because of the pandemic. The last photo was taken a few minutes before closing and you can see there are cars in the parking lot and people in the store.

Panorama for blog, I couldn’t decide which two to post, so I posted all three!

Gibbon Lake, WY 1, 2013, Matthew Brandt, chromogenic print soaked in Gibbon Lake water, 52 x 72 inches

In this exhibition there is a work by Matthew Brandt called Rainbow Lake, WY A20, from 2012. This print was made from using a process of c-printing and using rainbow lake water to submerge the print. I continued to look at his works on his own website and saw a piece that I was really intrigued by. The piece that struck me is called Gibbon Lake, WY 1 by Brandt. Brandt likes to explore photography in different ways and through different techniques and likes to relate those techniques to the subject of the photo. He uses the C-print process in his works in the series “Lakes and Reservoirs”, which is what Gibbon Lake, WY 1 comes from. Brandt uses a process known as chromogenic printing, otherwise known as c-prints, which uses “negatives or slides, an enlarger, and photographic paper—through a process of exposure and emulsive chemical layers”. C-prints are submerged in water in order to be developed so bodies of water, like lakes and reservoirs are a good relation to the technique he is using. Brandt’s process is to go to the lake or reservoir, in this case Gibbon Lake, and takes a photo and then collects water from the actual body of water, then goes back to his studio and soak the photo in a tray of the water collected and then the print starts to degrade and the colors that come out are because of the c-print process. He also likes to use the medium over and over to see what he can get out of the process because every single print ends up differently then the next.
