Kalaren had woken up a little bit ago, cuddled up close to Luxian. It was the dream really. The problem? Kalaren sat still terribly but Luxian had a death hold on him. Sure, he could have forced his way out but he simply wasn't that man. He would stay here as long as it took. Phone out of reach. Left with him and his wandering thoughts.
Impulsive thoughts.
Like....
Chomp.
Kalaren bit Luxian's ear.
Luxian was in a sleepy state of bliss. All tucked up under the covers, arms wrapped around Kalaren, fluffy tail also wrapped around him, soft breaths against his neck. It was wonderful. Every so often, fluffy ears would twitch, something that happened when he was dreaming.
Another nap that had just happened to have happened when they were cuddling. It was difficult not to; Luxian always felt sleepy around Kalaren, a clear indicator that he felt safest around him.
All was calm here with the couple.
...
Was.
The moment Kalaren's teeth met Luxian's ear in a light bite, the vulpian's eyes shot open and out came a surprised yelp. His tail? Puffed up! Himself? A shock he didn't poof into his other form. But instead? He fell off.
He scrambled up and accidentally fell off the bed, landing with a thump on his butt. One blink. Two blinks. Then his ears lowered along the back of his head.
Something touched me.
That something was Kalaren, Lux. Who else could've been in here?
Kalaren has turned bright red the moment the yelp came, as if what the did had processed. Eyes wide when he watched them fall with a little 'oh noooo'.
Note to Kalaren, work on his impulse control.
By the time Luxian got up and spoke the donari was burning red. Embarrassment steaming off of him. Even if he didn't speak it would have been obvious who it was.
Here came the word vomit.
I'm sorry! We were cuddling and I woke up and I was getting antsy but I didn't want to wake you and I couldn't get my phone without moving you so I was just sitting there and I was thinking about alpacas but then I got bored of thinking of alpacas and before I could move onto the kettle corn industry I saw your ear and before I knew it I was biting it, I'm sorry you're just really bitable.
And now he was pouting. He really did feel bad. He made his poor boyfriend fall on his ass. Would this stop him from doing it in the future? Probably not. There will probably come another day where they were napping and he got bored and took a chomp. It didn't help that Luxian was fluffy like orange cotton candy.
Kalaren was pulling out his phone with a beaming smile.
Kal: Hi!! Kal: Are you busy or do you want to hang out, I miss you!
Nymphe was tiptoeing out of Churro's room when her phone chimed, sounding especially loud in the otherwise quiet room. She'd just spent the past hour and a half trying the little raccoon to sleep (he asked her to read him three bedtime stories! three! and two lullabies! can you believe that?).
Looking back to see if he was still asleep (and letting out a big sigh of relief once she confirmed that he was), she checked her phone.
Lotus: hi kal!! Lotus: i'm actually free for the rest of the day if you wanna hang out now! (^ᗜ^ ) ´-
While waiting for a reply he was back to cooing over Mochi, putting a little top hat on him. Yep, no thoughts behind those eyes, only a hat.
Hearing the reply, he pulled his phone back out with a smile.
Kal: Yay! Kal: Want to meet up then we can decide what to do? Kal: I'm feeling adventury Kal: Adventurish? Kal: Adventuryish Kal: Like an adventure!
Lotus: i think it's adventureful! Lotus: or adventurely… (っº - ºς) Lotus: hehe, regardless, i'll teleport to the realm right now!!
She sent her final reply before stitching up a portal to the realm, floating through and searching around for a familiar tall figure.
Kalaren was quick to take the hat off Mochi and run off to the realm center to meet up with Nymphe. Giggling the whole while.
The moment he saw those pink locks he was jogging up with a beaming smile.
Lo!! I feel like it's been so long, I missed you!
She turned almost immediately, pink strands bouncing, and lit up the second she spotted him. She didn’t hesitate, practically bouncing the last step forward before throwing her arms around him in a quick, warm hug.
Kal! I missed you too! It has been a while, hasn't it?
Her bells chimed softly as she pulled back, head tilted.
Ooh, you said you wanted to do something adventureful—
Adventurous, Nymphe…
today, right? I brought snacks!
(What? How? When did she get the time to prepare those?) She patted the bag slung around her shoulder. Apparently, there were snacks in there?
Giggling, he hugged her back with a beaming smile.
It has. Too long. You've been threading too much. Sewing? Threading? Playing cats cradle? Too many strings.
Excitedly nodding he gently rocked on his heels.
Adventurey, yes! Ooh what kind of snacks? I haven't had anything you've made in an even longer forever.
Do you want to find somewhere and have a picnic or we can eat then go? Carry it up a mountain? I'd say swimming but you can't.
She'd have to agree with Kalaren. Far too many strings.
Most people there call it Weaving, though playing cats cradle is a rather accurate description too. I'll make sure to show you how it works next time you decide to visit.
Nymphe pulled back, her feet not quite touching the ground. As for the snacks…
That,
She giggled.
is a surprise. I'll show you once we get to…hm. Wherever we go! I'll let you decide, since I'm so nice.
And indecisive.
Chuckling he nodded.
Sure that sounds like fun. Are people even allowed at the Loom though? It has those big guards and seems like an important place. It feels wrong to just walk in.
His gaze moved back to the snacks before he giggled.
Why don't we venture to earth? It's Cinco de Mayo today and I hear it's really cool. I also haven't been to Mexico yet. I don't know if your snacks would be needed there but the celebrations seems super cool!
That made her tilt her head. While he did have a point…
Not usually, but I'm sure it'd be fine! Plus, it's not like they can say no to me.
…Nymphe was used to doing what she wanted in the Loom. Her face lit up at his suggestion, her hair drifting up a little higher.
Oooh, I've heard about that festival! That sounds so fun, we have to go! And it's fine, if we don't have the snacks there, you can just take them home and enjoy them with Mochi!
Giggling, he circled his wrist and opened a portal. As the two of them went through it was already full of life. A parade full of colours going by, the smell of street food in the air, mariachi music filling the air.
Kalaren was already bouncing on his toes he was so excited.
Ooh it's all so pretty and colourful here! I don't know where we should start with first. Want to watch the parade? I like the dancers.
Kalaren was pulling out his phone with a beaming smile.
Kal: Hi!! Kal: Are you busy or do you want to hang out, I miss you!

Oberon: Greetings, dear Kalaren!
Oberon: It would seem third time is indeed the charm.
Oberon: Thank you for all your help. I do believe it made a difference.
...
Io: Apologies. Wrong phone.
Io: Anyway, Oberon wanted you to know he passed.
Kalaren blinked a few times. Sometimes people texted weird. Then he giggled at the mix-up.
Kal: YAY! Kal: We should celebrate! Kal: What do you want to do to celebrate? Cake? Party? Board games? Chess? Pin the tail on the donkey? -
Kalaren went on naming things until he hit the text limit. So...so many options.
Io scrolled through the list, excitedly. There was only one issue...
Io: Yay, indeed!
Io: While those all sound very fun, he has cocooned himself away in his room.
Io: Long story.
Io: Though it's possible he'd come out if someone other than myself suggested it.
Io: Otherwise we could celebrate on his behalf if you'd like.
Kalaren's head would tilt before he texted Io back that he'd come over. He still had to see the reliquary!
After getting ready and tucking Mochi in (saying bye), Kalaren was off to the reliquary! Yay new places and Olga the goose!
Hopping through the portal, he looked around.
Hello?
With Oberon's wings stripped clean, the Reliquary wasn't under its usual defenses at the moment. Kalaren would see the large cave with the ornate entrance in the dim, starry light of Aurathi Prima.
Olga, of course, would greet him like an old friend. Why wouldn't she? Webbed feet plip-plapped over at top speed only to weave herself around his legs like a large, feathered cat.
Ah! Welcome! I see you're getting acquainted.
Io came down the front steps, waving him inside- eyes and hair glowing softly in the low light. Olga was welcome to follow. Much to Oberon's chagrin, she was an indoor-outdoor goose now.
Once inside, Kalaren would see the rows of shelves stretching ever onward to his left and right with the common area straight ahead. Little flame beings spilled from every corner and crevice to greet him- sputtering and sparking and climbing over one another to get a better look at the new friend.
You'll have to keep an eye out, they do tend to present a tripping hazard.
Io chuckled.
But, welcome, welcome! This is cave, sweet cave. It's good to finally have you.
Io led him to the kitchen- entire entourage in tow.
Coffee? Tea? Snacks? Nothing sweet, nor spicy.
He showed him an array of drinks and treats to choose from.
Kalaren giggled at the goose, letting her run through his legs. So cute! How was this bird ever attacking anyone. Look he was even petting her a bit, best day ever!
Hi Io!
He beamed, following them inside. Seeing the little flame fellas, he was already crouching down and cooing more. Yep, here is came, his eyes were glossy. There was too much cute in too little time. He was ready to implode.
But then they were off to the kitchen, a little goodbye to his new friends.
It's nice in here. It reminds me of a little dragons den but neat and with books!
Oh a coffee would be great, thank you.
He smiled warmly, shocked Io remembered or even knew that about him.
So why is Oberon cocooned?
Io clutched at his chest at the dragon comment, eyes shining in the low light.
Why that is the nicest thing anyone's ever said about our home! Thank you, dear.
To Io, who'd done most of the construction, that was as high praise as he could receive. A dragon in his den of books.
He started making the coffee, choosing the loudest, most colorful mug they had for the man.
Ah, you see, during the exam it seems he stripped the dust from his wings and bottled it up. Moon later smashed it (with good reason of course) though, without it, he lacks any magical capabilities until it grows back. It takes a lot out of him but, more than that, I think he's been in a state of reflection.
He handed over the coffee and showed him where there was milk and cream if desired.
His way of "coming down" from it all, as it were.
The flame beings had made their way into the kitchen, shimmying up the legs of the table and gathering near Kalaren in little clusters.
That made Kalaren beam a smile. He liked making people happy and it seemed he did! Yay!
Did you guys make all of this yourself?
It would be a good call on the mug. Kalaren adored whimsical mugs. Even those cat ones where the ears threaten to poke out your eyes he liked.
Oh...
Kalaren paused, looking at his hands.
Does that mean he didn't pass again?
He really hoped that wasn't the case but it didn't sound good. Also it wasn't like Moon said who passed or who didn't, she didn't even mention Kal or Kaz to anyone.
I hope he's alright.
But he was soon giggling softly at the flame creatures that showed up. Cooing at them all and smiling warmly.
We did!
He said excitedly, leaning on the counter.
Well, not the cave itself. That was here. But everything within was carved and crafted by myself and Oberon. The double staircase to the second floor is my personal favorite.
As one might imagine the creation of the Reliquary had gone a little like this: Oberon handled the blueprints and planning, while Io may well have been building a pillow fort for all the fun he'd had.
Io clarified quickly at Kalaren's question.
Oh, no, no! He passed!
He's just...angsty that's all. He's always taken himself a bit too seriously if you ask me.
The man chuckled.
Shall we fetch him? Or would you rather our own adventure today?
That's so cool! It looks so good you guys must be proud. If you aren't you should be.
His head tilted a bit at that before he smiled and clapped.
Yay! We have to get him! We need to celebrate! I'm so proud of him! What does he like to do? We can set something up then surprise him with it! Like his favourite drinks, maybe get him a new book? Movies? Does he like movies? What about food? Set up some food and banners. Would he want any friends here for it? I'm sure we could find some to come. Maybe we should get balloons, or is he scared of balloons, somethings are scared of balloons. Or-
He went on for a long, long while. Until he paused, eyes lighting up.
Or he mentioned a cat. Two tailed cat from his home world? T something? We could get him the cat thing?
A gentle hum fell from the glowing man. He was proud, indeed, but moreso of the life they'd created than the physical place itself.
Io chuckled as the list went on and on and on. He commented here and there, sneaking a word or two in edgewise.
He likes strong coffee... I think he's good on books... Sci-fi and action movies though...
There was a bit of a heavy pause at something Kalaren said. Io interjected softly.
I believe all his friends are currently in this room.
Io gave Kalaren a meaningful look.
And no. He's not frightened of balloons.
Another chuckle. He was just about to ask Kalaren whether or not he himself had celebrated yet when the Donari brought up the cat- the tessel.
Ember eyes widened.
Oberon...wants a tessel?
He'd never mentioned such a thing to Io.
Kalaren hummed and nodded, playing with the little fire beings.
Well he talked about it and said it would be nice but had to talk to you about it. I take it he didn't yet. Maybe a pause on the tessel then. He did bring it up though, and the one he used to have. His favourite animal.
Well okay, what if we have a coffee tasting station, we can watch some sci-fi movies, decorate a bit, that type of thing. Oh does he like cake? Maybe we could bake him a cake...I can't bake.
You know him best though, right? What do you think we should do for him?
Talk to me? He doesn't have to talk to me about that. This is his home too...
Though he wished he *had* talked to him. There was no need to hold back. Io rolled his neck with a heavy sigh.
I think you've stumbled upon a wonderful idea but it would mean a trip to the Velari homeworld. A place I am not only unwelcome- but wanted. I doubt very much your sister would appreciate you traveling with someone being hunted for high treason.
Though it certainly wouldn't be my first or last time back there.
He crossed his arms.
I should, however, caution you. I am likely as dangerous in the kitchen as I am on any wanted poster.
He laughed. No seriously. If they tried to bake a cake something or someone may very well explode.
Though I'd be willing to try either depending on your level of comfort.
His flame colored head dipped to the side as he tilted his head.
Have you had a chance to celebrate yet? Congratulations, by the way. Oberon told me you passed on your first try! You should be proud.
Well...I could go alone, no? That way you aren't in danger, things aren't stirred up. Just in and out. I'd just need to know where I would have to go. Oh also what colour or fur pattern Oberon likes.
My sister doesn't like most things so I wouldn't use that as a judgement of things.
And okay no kitchen then. I can cook but not bake. Baking is ridiculous.
Clapping his hands he giggled.
Okay, well why don't I go get the tessel and you stay to decorate? If you think he'd actually like that of course, I don't want to get him a pet when he doesn't really want one.
Smiling warmly he nodded.
I did! Some stuff with family. Thank you, I had a bit of an unfair advantage...twin and all.
There was a debate going on in the man's head. A pull that turned glowing flames to big puppy dog eyes. Sure it was risky, but dammit if he didn't want to be part of the cat-catching caper. The Velari home world was one of his favorite places in the whole wide universe. And it wasn't every day he got a chance to show it off to someone else. Even incognito.
He snapped his fingers, changing out his showy suit and cape for some jeans and a loose-fittng hooded sweatshirt. His hair dulled and faded to a burnt sort of brownish. About as un-Io as he could look. He sighed again.
How's this? I go with you. We portal in on the outskirts. The Velari are gentle people, no issue there. But you see anyone with hair like mine we leave immediately. With or without the cat.
Fair?
A little flick of the wrist and he was holding an old, faded picture. One he'd pulled from Oberon's desk. In it was young mothen man with far fewer scars holding a two-tailed cat. He looked....happy.
This is what we're looking for.
And yes, I do believe this would mean the world to him. I'm honestly a bit disappointed I hadn't thought of it myself.
He gave Kalaren a grin.
What say you?
Kalaren looked to him, the changes of it all. A pause. A long pause. Kalaren was aware of how people saw him. Bright, bubbly, innocent. Yes he was in the novice class of the school, but that was for Magic. Kalaren was the leading expert in anti magic and far from helpless. Fuck sake he fought his sister every day as apart of his training, we all know Moon doesn't hold back.
Oberon deserved that cat.
With the cat, full stop, then you have a deal.
A soft smile on his face. Perhaps asking Io to have some faith in them both.
Looking at the picture, he softly cooed and nodded.
We can say you thought of it, I mean I can't get there without you. Teamwork. You can even add the bow.
I say we should get going. Before he turns to soup in his cocoon. Did you know caterpillars turn to soup? Because they do.
Io stared into starry greys. A stretched silence. And then a smile. He didn't know Kalaren that well, but he liked his spirit. Io wasn't the type to judge someone's strength on magical ability alone. But he was the type to never forgive himself if something happened to someone else- especially in a hostile environment he'd helped to create. Still, the look on Kalaren's face said there was no negotiating this.
With the cat.
He nodded. Guess they were doing this.
He opened a portal to a world as dark and starry as the one outside the Reliquary.
Credit where credit is due, my friend.
He laughed, inviting Kalaren to step through first. Assuming he did, Io followed close behind, the portal disappearing behind them.
I suppose it's a good thing our dear Oberon isn't a caterpillar! Though I fear you may be onto something with him turning to soup. He's been known to bed rot from time to time.
The world around them shined like a summer night on a full moon. Fireflies danced through the air. Dew on the tall grass glistened in the breeze. In the distance, lights could be seen from a town that bustled with activity, though they stood near a tree line where a forest glowed faint blue with bioluminescent moss. So serene you would never know the place was under silent siege.
Obie's home world.
He said softly. Always in awe of the place so vastly different from his own birth realm. He clapped his hands together.
Tessels are forest dwellers. Though they often scavange dumpsters and alleys like any other creature. Our safest bet is to keep to the woods. Though our quickest may be the town.
His smile turned beaming, hands behind his back as he gently rocked.
With the cat.
He nodded happily. Soon skipping through the portal that Io opened. Kalaren was in complete awe from it all. It was a beautiful place. Like standing in a glade at night, dew drops and crickets singing in the moonlight. Even the moss bringing little lights to the darkness.
Kaz bed rots a lot too. Maybe they could do it together. Body doubling or whatever. Together, but doing nothing.
It's beautiful here. Oddly cozy. It feels magical.
Looking over at the man, Kalaren smiled warmly. A small hum before looking to the woods.
I think the forest then. Animals like me and I also have treats. They're meant to be for the creatures but they will work for cats or cat like things too. Lead the way!
Io couldn't keep the light from his eyes as he chuckled. He wished Oberon had more friends. Maybe a bed rot buddy would do him some good.
His shoulders relaxed as they looked around.
Magical, indeed. This was my home for many years as well. I'd like to return someday.
He could happily live out his days here in the darkness. The irony not lost on him.
Forest it is!
The forest was dense and yet the glowing moss and luminant insects kept it from being cast into obscurity. Io led them toward a geothermal pool not too far in where animals often gathered for water and warmth. Steam thickened as they neared and paw prints on the ground showed they'd made the right call.
Surely enough, as they entered the edge of a clearing, several creatures could be seen cautiously mingling. Scaley creatures that were shaped like dogs. Tiny deer the size of house cats. And, speaking of house cats, there amongst them was their target in question. A smooth tawny coat. Two tails. Closer in size to a Maine Coon than your average lap cat.
Io raised his eyebrows at Kalaren.
You're up.
He whispered playfully.
Now Kalaren didn't know the history of Io and Oberon, why it was so turbulent, so please excuse his next question.
So why don't you?
Soon they were in the forest though, Kalaren cooing and aweing at what he saw while trying to stay quiet. It was so pretty here. Actually he was collecting some of the moss for Mochi's home.
Then they came across the clearing, his eyes already going wide and watering a bit. Too cute. All of them were too cute.
I got it.
He giggled in a hushed tone. Sneaking into the opening and going slowly. Once a little closer, he just sat down and pulled out the treats. Just waiting. Eventually the tessel noticed. Smelling the air before padding over.
The thing about most donari is they didn't emit frequencies that were much different from nature and existence itself. It was like finding food on the ground. No fear to be had. It's also why animals liked Moon even though she was terrifying.
Carefully scooping it up, cooing, and a few tears, he walked over to Io.
It's so cute. I might die. So do we just head back now or will it need things?
Io gave Kalaren a soft smile. While he held a lot of shame in the truth, he did not hide from it. Not when asked directly, at least.
The Velari home world is currently under control of the Aurathi- my species. I've been exiled under sentence from both this place and my home world for committing high treason against the empire. Meaning I've lost all rights to live here aaaaand there's a significant bounty on my head.
He shrugged with an innocent smile, but after a moment the smile faded.
No amount of treason can undo the harm I'd already done, however.
I'm very fortunate Oberon accepted me as I am.
The sunny man finished quietly.
But perhaps one day we can return here together. That's the hope, anyway.
He clapped his hand.
It's cat catching time!
Watching in near awe as Kalaren claimed the large cat with ease, he gave the Donari a couple congratulatory pats on the shoulder.
Incredible work! You made that look easy!
We have all the necessities. Oberon can pick out whatever accessories he'd like later on. For now, let's get...
He looked the creature over quickly.
...her home, shall we?
Once again, Io opened a portal and invited Kalaren through- a smile on his face as they returned to the Reliquary. Cat in hand and no run-ins to speak of.
Kalaren listened to the story, a sympathetic smile on his face. Everyone did things they weren't proud of. Treason. Murder. Whatever it was. But Io was working at it and seemed to be a better person now so that's what matters.
Giggling he cooed at the cat and gave her little scratches.
To Obie!
With a soft giggle he walked through the portal. All in all a great little gathering mission!
So how should we do this? Wake Oberon then bring him down? Bring the new baby to him? Scream fire and then just show the cat?
While Kalaren asked how they should go about the reveal, Io got together a bowl of food and water and conjured some blankets into a pile in the common area. He expected the thing might be frightened at first but it looked perfectly at home in Kalaren's arms- a deep purr pulling from it as its dual tails swished happily.
As much as I like the sound of that last option, I think he's been through enough as it is.
Io laughed, holding his sides. Kalaren was a hoot. With a little wave he led him up the stairs and to the right, knocking a couple times to no answer before gently pushing open the door.
The room was small and fairly tidy. A twin bed in the far corner that was currently unoccupied. A dresser for his clothes with a fancy looking surfboard leaning up against it. There was a small bookshelf full of work books and manga with figurines from anime and some knickknacks throughout. A My Chemical Romance poster along with a couple other favorite Earth bands. And in the center, connected to the cave walls by wispy looking white threads, was a large coccoon the size and shape of a hammock.
Io nodded for Kalaren to go ahead. Speak. Shout. Put the cat on the sleeping moth. Whatever he wanted.
Was it weird and invasive? Yes. Did Io know better? He probably should, but sadly for Oberon the answer was no.
Well he had to agree, Oberon's had a busy last while. His current job was just to keep the tessel happy. Given the purring and nuzzling, he was doing great!
Sneaking up the stairs with Io they made it to Oberon's room. Actually it was a lot like Kaztor's. Just two emo boys in a sunshine world. Or with sunshine best friends. Either way not great for them. Kalaren and Io adopted introverts! Ironic because Kaztor went to Kalaren first when he was still scared and shy.
Anyways, surprise time. Walking up the the cocoon, Kalaren tapped on it.
Oberon? It's time to get up. We have to celebrate you passing! Wakey wakey! No turning to soup in there.
And then he just waited for the moth to emerge.
Oberon had been out for...how many hours now? Many. He didn't know his up from down at the moment but what he did know is Io's voice had gotten a lot deeper...and more...Slavic?
Why are you talking like...
A hand reached out to shoo the man away and instead came in contact with the tessel's tawny fur.
...
He sat up, silver eyes blinking in confusion at Kalaren for just a moment before jolting backward in the cocoon.
What are you-??
Wait for it...
Why are you-??
Wait for it.......
Is that...?
All Kalaren would see next is a rush of blue as Oberon did something he never....EVER....does. In an instant he was out of the cocoon, arms around the tessel and Kalaren- face buried enough to hide the tears welling up. With a hand, he waved for Io to bring it in. Had they really risked life and limb all over a cat?
You're insane.
Both of you.
His words were muffled in the group hug, but his joy was as clear as could be.
Kalaren couldn't help but giggle. He did feel a little bad about startling Oberon but seeing him happy was worth it. The donari hugging him back and waiting for Io to get in here. This was hug time!
I know you mentioned wanting one again, then Io knew where to find them...we figured that you deserved it for passing your test.
Oh and also we will still be celebrating but she's your present. Teamwork.
Once they pulled away, he gently handed over Oberon's new baby.
We're proud of you!
But today is also about you, so what do you want to do to celebrate? We can watch movies and hang out with your new pet, we talked and baking is off the table, we can have a little party. Anything you want!
It was hard for Oberon not to feel small in the presence of the two towering men. A silly feeling as he stood there- barely awake- the tessel held tight in his arms like he might never let go. With a free hand, he dabbed his eyes on his sleeve. Kalaren was one of few to get an Oberon hug and even fewer to see him cry.
I still can't believe-
Okay, now he was laughing. Free hand waving them both off.
Good call on the baking. Unless you like fire. A lot of it.
He gave Io a pointed look that turned into one of confusion. The man was still in jeans and sweatshirt. His hair, at least was back to normal. Shaking his head, Oberon turned back to Kalaren.
You've done enough as it is. We were supposed to celebrate you too. What do you want? Games? Movies?
Hells, Io turned the stairs into a slip and slide once.
Ooh! Oberon can make a giant fort from his cocoon threads!
Don't tell- ugh. That's embarrassing.
Either way- he wasn't taking no for an answer. They'd done more than enough for him already.
This was Kalaren. Trying to have a politeness contest with him...well was it even possible?
Nonsense, you worked really hard and that should be celebrated. Plus I had my celebration with family, this is about you. We can celebrate me a different time if you want but today is all about you.
Come on is there anything you've always really wanted to try but never have? Sky diving? Cave diving? Making snow angels? Visiting a random realm? Fighting a bear? Come on Obie, the skies the limit!
Kalaren giggled, arms wide and all. But then he looked to the fluffins in his arms.
Oh and your new tessel. Any idea what you want to name her?
Fuck it sharing here.
Kalaren Voice Claim

Kalaren was pulling out his phone with a beaming smile.

Oberon: Greetings, dear Kalaren!
Oberon: It would seem third time is indeed the charm.
Oberon: Thank you for all your help. I do believe it made a difference.

Luxy 💫: KAL KAL KAL SWEETIE HI! Luxy 💫: come Hrere Luxy 💫: coem ere please ffksdl Luxy 💫: Luxy 💫: Luxy 💫: . Luxy 💫: Sorry my phone fell in water can you still hear me I hope you can hear this any please can you come over I have something to (Sent by Siri)
Welp. If there were any more messages coming through, they wouldn't. Rest in peace Luxian's phone. You will... not be missed, actually, because you kept getting lost anyway.
Kalaren was cooing over Mochi when the texts started. He couldn't help but giggle seeing it all. Well someone would probably need a new phone.
Sorry Momo, papa's gotta go see other papa. I'll be home later.
Yes, Kalaren did talk to Mochi like that frog could understand. But right now he had an excited fox to go visit. Being able to make portals now, he did just that! Right to Luxian's door to let himself in. It felt wrong to appear right inside.
Hi Pumpkin, I'm here. What's going on?
Luxian would be in the kitchen now, pouting with his hands on his hips. Just... staring at a bowl of rice with his phone now submerged in it.
His ears flickered when Kalaren came through, his tail already wagging as he beamed at the man.
Hi, sweetie! First of all, do you think rice will be enough to help my phone? It won't turn on.
...That phone was long gone, Luxian.
Second of all, and more importantly, I finally finished the painting! You know, the one where I was using the donari paint we made?
More giggles fell seeing him. There was his beautiful boyfriend!
His head tilted at the ask.
I don't think rice is qualified.
He didn't know about the phone in rice trick.
You could probably ask Pax through. He's good with technology.
His eyes lit up hearing this, rushing over to pick up Luxian in his arms and spin him around.
It's done? Really? Can I see? I want to see! Please! I bet it's amazing because you're amazing and I'm so excited!
There came the pout again.
Oh, furs. I remember seeing something online about rice and phones. What a shame.
Shrugging his shoulders, he just pushed the bowl to one side and left the phone in there. That was another problem. He will ask Pax later about it though.
Giggling when the donari came rushing over, a joyful squeak falling at being picked up and spun around. With his hands now resting on his shoulders, Luxian quickly nodded his head and leaned down to kiss his nose.
It is! It's done! Really really!
Yes you can, that's why I asked for you to come over! Come on, I'll show it to you.
Assuming Kalaren agreed and placed him back down on the floor, the vulpian took his hand and started to lead him up to the studio. However, as they reached the door, Luxian quickly turned around.
Okay, you have to close your eyes now. I'll pull you in and then when I say open, you can look. Okay?
Then came the assault of messy and haphazard kisses in his excitement.
Reluctantly, Kalaren did end up putting him down. He was so excited. Luxian was an amazing artist, Kalaren's favourite easily, but this was also a donari art. Something lost to time. In quadrillions of years no one has done this technique and now Luxian had! That was an amazing feat!
Giggling as he was led up stairs, he nodded.
Okay, okay my eyes are closed, but you have to hurry I'm so excited I might explode. Then you'll have to clean Kalaren off the walls and no one wants that.
With that, his eyes closed.
Oh. That was an image Luxian didn't want in his head. No, he didn't want Kalaren on the walls. Well, actually, maybe a wall. But as himself-
Anyway. Moving on.
Biting his lip when his eyes closed, it was back to leading him in. Slowly pushing open the door, he placed Kalaren in front of the canvas before letting go of his hand, the sound of rustling being heard and he adjusted the stand and made sure to clear things up a little.
After that though, he moved a little behind the donari.
Okay, you can open.
Before him would be the completed work.
Luxian had talked about how difficult he found it to paint Kalaren, and this would be one of the reasons why this particular piece took so long. There on the large canvas would be Kalaren, however centred around his face where the focal point were his eyes. Coated with warm colours to symbolise a sunset, his hair would slowly move like he was standing in a breeze whilst his eyes captured a view of the donari sunset they both watched.
The reflection would also move in his eyes, coming to life as if he was actually watching it for himself. The other eye, which Luxian wanted to focus on just how his eyes looked in general, would be a perfect replica of how they actually appeared. So much time and effort in capturing every little detail from both how Luxian saw them and also reference pictures alike. It was obvious just from such details how much love and care was put into it.
His fangs bit into his lower lip a bit more, the fox now rocking back and forth on his heels.
I thought it made sense to have my first piece be centred around you because you were the one who helped me out with the paints. And you were the one I was with when we watched the sunset together.
Plus I just really enjoy painting you.
His giggles continued as he was moved into place with a slight stumble. A slight bouncing on his toes as he waited to be told he could look. Ears flicking at the sound of movement.
Hearing he could open, his eyes did just that, only to be met with himself looking back. His expression softened, eyes widening slightly as he looked at it. Stary hues flicking around the canvas. That was him. Luxian painted him. The movements far too similar as Kalaren almost moved in the same way as the painting.
It was beautiful. So much so his eyes welled before he could take it all in. Tears gently falling. No one had ever done something like this for him before. No one had ever seen him like this before, much less painted it.
Hearing Luxian speak he couldn't pry his eyes off the painting. Kalaren quickly moved to the vulpian, hugging him tight and burying his face in his neck. Gentle tears of joy falling.
Thank you. I love it. It's...so amazing. You're amazing. I don't even know what to say. It makes me so happy to see. Thank you. Thank you so much.
When Luxian was met with silence, that would be when the nerves started to creep in. Don't get him wrong, he was a confident artist. He knew he was good at what he did, and he loved sharing his work with others. But really, Kalaren's opinion mattered most to him. And this art was about him.
Someone who Luxian found so beautiful inside and out. Someone who made him so incredibly happy just for being himself. Someone who made him laugh until his side hurts or until tears were running down his face. Someone who made him feel safe and welcomed, even from the day they met. Kalaren had such an incredible aura about him, something that he knew others could agree on.
Truly the light within people's lives.
As Kalaren suddenly brought him into his arms and held him tightly, Luxian smiled softly and wrapped his arms around him. One hand reaching up to run his fingers through his hair, nuzzling into him.
I'm glad you do. That makes me happy to hear. You make me happy.
Kalaren was feeling a myriad of emotions at the moment. His heart was hammering but it was what his soul was doing that he couldn't understand. Swelling with such a warmth it was almost burning. Like a hug, warm and inviting. Being basked in the suns rays on a summer day. It felt like he was being hugged all over, his entire body.
A fluttering in his chest that felt light, it was freeing. It felt like something he never really had before, it felt like home.
More happy tears fell as he clung to Luxian.
You make me happy. So happy. Half the time my cheeks hurt from how much I've been smiling. You're warm, like a fire on a cold night. Welcoming like the sun peeking through the blinds in the morning. Comforting like my favorite hoodie. You're like home. What I seek out.
The words all just slipped out.
Luxian's heart swelled at the words uttered in their little space, a soft smile that warmed the more he listened.
Though, it would be the 'home' comment that seemed to affect him more. Something that made his heart hammer in his chest and want to reach out to the man currently in his arms. Something that made Luxian tighten his hold around him, ears lowering back just so he could drown himself in all that was Kalaren.
You are my home.
He simply whispered, words that carried a heavy weight of nothing but truth and raw adoration.
Pulling back, he cupped Kalaren's cheek and smiled at him, his thumb brushing away some tears as he leaned in to plant a tender kiss on his lips. Once more, saying things that maybe he found hard to speak.
There is was. That feeling. The space around them warming the pair with the embrace of his soul. He wouldn't know this was the cause, but it felt warm, welcome, like they said, home.
Kalaren melted into the kiss, his own hands cupping Luxian's face. A hint of desperation in words he couldn't speak. Holding them close and tender. Lips dancing to a language he barely knew but he hoped his words were coming across.
Words he didn't know how to say. Ones he felt for Luxian for a while.
Kalaren never knew a feeling like this. A lifetime of not having it to feeling so loves and cared for, he just wanted to drown in it. Never leave it.
The couple stayed there for a little while. Holding one another in a loving embrace, kissing one another tenderly to share those inner feelings. Even if it wasn't said aloud, they were felt. They were warm, they were comforting, they were indulged in.
After a little while, they pulled apart, Luxian softly panting. It was just a kiss, but a kiss from Kalaren always did seem to take his breath away.
Nuzzling his nose against the donari's, he softly giggled.
So, what would you like to do with the painting? Do you want to keep it in your home, have it stay here or do you want to have it elsewhere? It's your choice. It's for you, after all.
A dopey smile and half lidded eyes met Luxian's when they pulled away. Little giggles falling at the nuzzling. He was on cloud nine. High and intoxicated on Luxian.
No I'm serious, he was slightly high right now. The donari are odd beings.
I was thinking maybe at our place in my home realm? Or the cabin? Somewhere that's both of ours. That's what I want. I know it's for me but you made it, and it's of me and you worked so hard I want you to be able to enjoy it whenever you want to too.
Stealing one quick peck, he looked back to the painting.
You did an amazing job. You're so talented I can't believe it at times. How was painting it? Like using the paint I mean.
Giggling, he seemed happy with either idea.
How about in your home realm then? It'll be one way to brighten it up!
Luxian melted into the stolen kiss, humming as his arms soon wrapped around the donari's waist.
Thank you, sweetie. It means a lot coming from you.
It was fun, the paints were great to work with and I definitely want to play around with them again. We might have to make some more, but they're really special and I truly loved it. It took a bit getting used to the moving part, but once I got the hang of it...
He simply looked over to the canvas with a soft smile, resting his head against Kalaren's chest.
Well, the results speak for themselves. It turned out beautiful.
That sounds nice. We need a matching one of you too so we can be together.
Pause.
If you want to paint that. I know that it was a lot of work.
Kalaren gently pulled Luxian in. A proper little hug as the pair gently swayed.
I'm glad it was fun. It's so weird to see it come to life. Imagine all the things you could make, having it come to life like this. Do you know you're the first person in like...quadrillions of years to paint like this? That's amazing to think about. You did better than most of the artists I saw back in my home realm.
You did so, so good. I'm sorry I don't have the right words for how fantastic it is. I'd say I could stare at it for hours but I feel like I'm looking in a trippy mirror.
Pause.
If I died would you talk to the painting like it was me?
Not now Kalaren.
A little smile painted itself across Luxian's lips, forming into a shy grin as he hummed.
Okay. I will paint a matching one of me and we can have them both in our new place.
Furs, I was thinking about that whilst I painted. I could truly do so much with it. Skies with moving clouds, trees that actually swayed, people dancing. I have so much creative freedom with this new medium. Oh, oh, maybe even Pax would want a moving portrait of the imps just being little imps!
Now it was his turn to pause.
Or maybe they'll think it's a mirror and get confused. Or try to attack it. Would they do that?
More giggles slipped out at Kalaren's praise, his compliments making his heart slam within his chest.
It's okay. Thank you, again. It really means a lot to me knowing you love it so much.
Luxian's ear flickered at the question, causing the fox to blink a couple of times until laughter fell from him.
I would. I would even give it a kiss each morning and each night.
Though, I don't want you to die. I don't want to think of you dying either. So, nuh uh.
We can look at eachother in painting form all the time then! Watch people that come over like weirdos.
I think Pax would sob and cry. Actually I know he was. As for the imps...I actually have no idea how self aware they are. I don't know if I've seen them with a mirror before. I could ask Pax or Xinalith?
Xinalith would also probably like it a lot. They love their imps. It's cute.
More little sways as he also looked over at the painting.
I do. I really do. I want to run around the realm with it and make people look at it. But then what if a creature thinks it's me and I can't get it back. I don't want that.
He couldn't help but giggle. Kalaren liked his hypotheticals.
Okay, what if I'm alive but gone for a long time? Like I was taken for science and had to live in a people zoo for a year. I'm okay and alive and having a good time I just can't be near anyone.
Would you bring people over so they can talk to painting me?
What is wrong with you Kalaren?
We could! That sounds really silly. But what if any guests get creeped out?
Hm... maybe I'll bring it up to Pax. Xinalith still scares me, I don't want to ask them.
Giggling, he cooed at the mere thought. Kalaren was so precious, it made him give him a squeeze to make up for the cuteness aggression.
I appreciate the sentiment, but I do agree that that might be a bad idea. Plus, what if you trip over something and drop the painting on accident?
Leaning back to look at Kalaren, Luxian couldn't help but lift a brow at this hypothetical.
I mean, yes, I would. I would bring people over so they could speak with painting you. But what sort of situation would you have gotten yourself into that meant you had to live in a... people zoo? What is a people zoo?
Well I don't want the paintings of ourselves in the bedroom so the guests will have to deal with it. They can look for little ducks to distract themself.
That sounded mean. Maybe we can get a cover for them?
Giggling, he nodded.
That's fair, they can be scary.
And they still called Luxian dog so that didn't help.
That's fair. I do trip sometimes. Or someone might bump into me, that happens a lot.
This was Kalaren. His hypotheticals knew no bounds.
Maybe someone asked. They just asked me to go into a people zoo for a year and I said yes because I like helping. It's like a zoo but for people rather than animals. I don't know if animals or other people would go though.
Would you visit me in my zoo home?
Luxian couldn't help but burst out laughing, shaking his head.
We can do whatever you like with them. Though, if you prefer, we could have them in the cabin. I don't think we'll have many guests there which means no 'creeping them out'.
Yes, you do seem to bump into people a lot of the time. It's like you have a magnet on you. Which makes sense, because I was also drawn to you.
And there's a wink for him.
Wouldn't that just be people watching? If they want to look at people, they could just go outside surely. The science part scares me most though. Would that mean they'd be testing on you?
Still... Luxian did like entertaining his hypotheticals. Even if they started treading the realm of 'what the furs is going on here'.
I would, yes. But then I might get sad and miss you, so I'd either ask the people to let me join the people zoo or try and persuade them to let you come back home.
No, in the donari realm. People can look at us. Plus the cabin is small so they would be watching us everywhere. I could build them their own cabin I guess but then who would see them? They need to be seen.
A small blush appeared on his cheeks as he giggled.
Then I'm happy I'm magnetic.
Still so easy to fluster. He probably always would be.
But in cages. People watching in a zoo setting. No tests just zoo.
Kalaren fell into happy laughter as he hugged Luxian tight.
We can zoo together!
At least he was easy to please!
Speaking of doing things together, should we? Do something I mean. Not the zoo thing.
Okay, donari realm it is. You don't need to build another cabin for some paintings, sweetie. Though I very much admire the dedication.
I don't think I like the human zoo anymore. That sounds rather unethical. And weird. I don't understand why people would go to a human zoo to look at humans when, again, the outdoors exist.
Giggling either way, he nodded his head at the idea of hanging out. Luxian was always down to spend time with Kalaren.
Yes, let's! I'm free all day. Did you have anything in mind, maybe an outing somewhere, or did you want to stay in and relax?
I'd build you a cabin every day of my life if it made you happy.
Oh sappy.
But what if they didn't know they were in a zoo so they did things they would only do at home? Spying on the people.
There was absolutely a zoo like this.
Can we do something? We can go on a date night! Let's dress up night and go on a date night!
You're so precious.
Okay. You cannot blame Luxian for where his mind went with that. Don't let his usual persona rid the idea that he, indeed, had a dirty mind.
Oh, that's really changed things. Would that also include... I don't want to go to a people zoo. I don't want to watch people.
Giggling at his excitement, Luxian nodded his head, leaning up to steal a kiss.
Of course we can! I'd love to go on a date night. Dressing up fancy? How fancy? Or just looking nice? You always look nice.
Head tilt. One blink. Another. Eyes going wide as he realised.
Luxian.
A hushed gasp. As if he didn't know who his boyfriend was and what he could be like.
Like...a reeeeaaallly nice dinner fancy but not the ballroom fancy. You always look nice too.
Ooh what if I pick an outfit for you and you pick one for me?
Luxian pouted at his response, lightly poking his side.
Hey, were you not thinking of that just now? You worded it like that! What else do people 'only do at home'?
Giggling, he let out a long 'oooh' at the idea, his tail already on the fritz as it wagged quickly.
Yes! Yes yes yes! Let's do that! That sounds like so much fun!
Do you want to look around in my closet now for an outfit for me, then we head over to yours so I can get your outfit and we get ready there?
I meant like...I don't know fart? Or sneeze and not cover their nose? Like how I talk to Mochi or you descend into madness for paint. Not that. What does on in your head.
Kalaren giggled and poked his forehead. As if Kalaren couldn't be as bad at times.
Okay okay okay! I'll be back!
And Kalaren was off to Luxian's closet. Rustling around could be heard. He was on the hunt. He could be heard humming, holding things up, until.
Okay I have it! But you can't look until you pick mine. You don't get to try and match it.
Giggling, he skipped out of the room with the outfit in a little bag.
Off to mine?
He was really loving this portal thing. Doing a little bow and circling his wrist to make it and escort Luxian through. What a gentleman.
Oh. Well. I guess I'm a pervert.
That pout remained, even when he was poked on the forehead. But soon enough, it would widen into a giddy smile when Kalaren showed excitement, running off to his closet.
Luxian would wait around for him, rocking back and forth on his heels until the donari appeared once more, ambers peeping at the bag in his hand before he giggled.
Okay, no looking. I promise! Yes, let's head on over.
With that, as well as a playful coo at Kalaren's display, off they went to Kalaren's. Once they were there, Luxian excused himself to make his way into his closet, similar sounds being heard. Some rustling, a lot of long 'hums', until eventually he popped back into view. Arms behind his back as he held the clothes there.
I've picked mine out! On the count of three?
Kalaren was practically vibrating and bouncing on his toes. Mainly because he wanted to see Luxian in what he chose. Luxian always looked good, amazing actually, but he was still excited to see him in this.
Deep breath Kal you might explode.
Okay, one two and three!
Once he heard the 'three', Luxian pulled the pieces out from behind, his eyes landing on what Kalaren had picked out. A long 'ooh' fell from him then, his tail swishing around happily.
Oh! I haven't worn that shirt in a while! I think I've worn it like... twice and then hadn't had the chance to wear it again!
Luxian giggled, stepping over so the pair could swap clothes.
You're going to look like a cloud, which I think is very cute. Plus, I want to see you wearing a suit jacket.
Oh boy. I wonder why. Couldn't have anything to do with how muscular Kalaren was, surely.
Kalaren carefully swapped over the clothing with a little giggle.
I've never actually worn this. Pax put a bunch of clothing in my closet for special occasion, I guess this counts! I will look like a cloud, I like that.
His head tilted at the suit jacket part though. Not catching onto why Luxian would like that. Idiot.
Okay, we can get changed and then go? Ooh I could push my hair back? I've seen people do that for dates to look nicer sometimes.
Also...where are we going on this date?
