The Painted Shuts - At The Bus Stop
From 'My Own Personal Summer of Love'
Cozy Home Records, 2008
Standing at the bus stop
Should have stayed in
Don't know where we're going
Don't know where we've been
But at least we've got each other
So I try to sing
Something worth singing
Sing it with a grin
What the fuck happened to us?
At the bus stop, there's no bus
You said 'We should try another day'
Rainclouds forming overhead
I said 'Man I must be dead
It's a matter of time before they get me in the grave.'
The Painted Shuts - Gargoyles In The Gutter
6-song EP put together for the Invisible Box-Set. Paul and I started recording this in the spring of 2009, but five songs in, it lost momentum. Rather than leave it unreleased, we added 'A Patchwork Heart' from a failed Wheelies/Burnouts collaboration and this was the result.

The Invisible Box-Set
Via The Utica Flower Company imaginary ship project, we orchestrated a 14 album collection called 'The Invisible Box-Set'. Artists included The Falling Floors, Uberfuzz, Brendon Hertz & The Burnt Orange Crayons, Simon Piler & The Atom Band, The Real Burnouts, Handwithlegs, James Redmond, Periwinkle Periscope, Shine Shut, The October Terminus, The Painted Shuts, Becky N, The Amalfi Glow, and The Wheelies.

My Own Personal Summer of Love
During the making of Tigermouse, Paul Burnout asked me if I wanted to record a new Painted Shuts album. With the previous Painted Shuts recording being incorporated into The Utica Flower Company, My Own Personal Summer of Love and the preceeding Bus Stop EP were the first two official recordings. It was probably the easiest record I ever made, with Paul doing the backing tracks and me doing additional keys/vocals over the top, finishing it in just under 3 weeks.

Simon Piler
Through the Daydream Generation compilations I got to know one Simon Piler, a living, breathing Japhy Ryder-esque experimental folk-poet from Wisconsin and laterally Alaska. His music and scope of knowledge have been a constant source of wonder over the last couple of years and he has been a pivotal character in the writing of The Utica Flower Company, as well as the making of the second UFC record.

KALEIDONAUTS - Marvin The Mollusk
KALEIDONAUTS - Tigermouse
Immediately after the release of 'Spaniard' and inspired by the success of collaborating on tracks like 'Roll It Up' and 'For A Girl...', Warchalking and I began writing a record together. Throughout the summer of 2008 we traded mp3s and ideas and quickly amassed a collection of songs under the working title 'ww'. With Jane Gilmore singing backing vocals on three of the songs, it began to feel like an extension of the previous project, and everyone involved agreed that it should be a second Kaleidonauts record.
Warchalking made this one of the most enjoyable collaborations I've been involved in - the interchange of ideas and energy for the songs made it easy from beginning to end. The songwriting was pretty much 50/50 with us revising lyrics on each other's melodies and helping shape each song, to a point where everything you hear features some creative element from either of us. The finished record is a multi-layered acoustic pop adventure with some of my best song ideas. Whereas 'Spaniard' has moments that won't get any better, its counterpart released in September 2008 for free on Quixodelic Records is a more consistent record that I'm happy to play from start to finish.

MARVIN THE MOLLUSK by Kaleidonauts
KALEIDONAUTS - I Do Not Currently Own A Spaniard (Mine Died)
Throughout the winter of 2007 and spring of 2008 Jon of the Atom and I wrote and recorded Spaniard. We'd collaborated on several tracks during 2007 (Caroline, Thank My Stars, Moths At The Bug Zapper, Roll It Up, Suspended Animation) and had talked about making them into an EP. Then in November I wrote and recorded a bunch of songs in seven hours imaginatively titled '7 Hours'. I sent them to Jon to see what he thought of them and he asked for the individual tracks so as he could add to them. He drafted in Jane Gilmore and Katie Saul to sing harmonies, and Tim Kotch to play trumpet. I wrote another couple of songs for Jane to sing (The Idiot Crying, Marvin The Mollusk), and Warchalking added parts to Roll It Up and For A Girl I Never Kissed. I Do Not Currently Own A Spaniard (Mine Died) was released in April 2008 and is generally considered to be one of the best things I've done. This is almost 100% to do with Jon's production on the record, taking my crappy mp3s and pulling them into shape.

KALEIDONAUTS
Collaboration project I started with Jon of the Atom in the winter of 2007 and continued with Warchalking in 2008. We released two records - I Do Not Currently Own A Spaniard (Mine Died) and Tigermouse in April and September 2008. Having tried (and failed) to organize a Daydream Collective recording project, this was as close as it would come. Spaniard featured myself, JOTA, Jane Gilmore, Katie Saul, Warchalking, Tim Kotch, Meghan Geiss, Wind-Powered Rebekah, and Tigermouse featured myself, Warchalking, and Jane Gilmore.

JANE GILMORE
One of the first Quixodelic artists with her record 'Knowledge Is Dangerous'. In early 2008 Jon of the Atom told me he'd found an amazing singer I should put on the Daydream Generation compilations. 'Amazing' was something of an understatement - Jane Gilmore sings her songs with a soulful kookiness, quite unique and life-affirming. I was lucky enough to have her sing a couple of songs I wrote on Kaleidonauts 'Spaniard' and she also added a touch of harmonic class to follow-up 'Tigermouse'.
Long may she sing on.

THE WHEELIES - The Wheelie
A Best Of The Wheelies, taking songs from the 5 Wheelies records released on Cozy Home Records between 2006 and 2007. Remastered by Bubba Smooth and available for free download at Quixodelic Records.

QUIXODELIC RECORDS
In March 2008 we started our own net-label hosting free downloads of albums and EPs. Originally this came about from many of the daydream family not being involved with the Cozy Home (Warchalking, Becky N, Jane Gilmore, Kaleidonauts, Uberfuzz), but also over time we began to co-host records and put out unreleased material from The Wheelies, Fig Mints, and The Real Burnouts.
And we've been putting out free downloads ever since, as well as looking at releasing many of the Quixodelic Records on cassette format. This has been perhaps the most rewarding of all the windmills I've chased, knowing that we've helped talented artists and really decent people get heard over the last couple of years.
A new Quixodelic Record store is still in the making, but for now you can get all the releases from http://daydreamgeneration.com
