Hi! I really love your Vocaloid covers, first of all. Just listened to your Rolling Girl one and wow... it’s very powerful, and such a great tribute. Thank you for sharing your work with us. As for my question, I have been using Vocaloid for roughly two years on and off, with almost no music experience. Do you have any tuning tips, or tips on mixing? (Or general music tips?) I use Piapro Studio V4 because V5 doesn’t like my laptop, and GarageBand. Have a great day, and thank you for your time.

I also started using Vocaloid with no music knowledge, but I've learned a lot through the years! I thought about making a tuning tutorial, since I get quite a few questions about it, so I might do that in the upcoming weeks.

As far as mixing goes, I used Adobe Audition. From what I've heard, GarageBand is a pretty good mixing software as well. Some general tips I can give with mixing is that you should never alter the off vocal. If you think the vocal track is too low from the instrumental, then keep editing the vocal. Also, use reverb sparingly. A lot of new users really like to use a lot of it, and it not mixed correctly, can really kill a cover. Furthermore, Channel Mixing can make a huge impact in differentiating the vocal from the music so that it won't be drowned out. I don't see a lot of beginners using it, but it's an easy way to help the mixing process.

I like to cover songs I like, so timing isn't usually an issue for me, since I can get the right timing 99% of the time. But, if you're unsure or uncomfortable with timing, synching up both the original on and off vocal during mixing as a guideline can help with deciding when to do your own. Gradually, you'll get a sense for it, and you can ween yourself off of it when you get more comfortable.

Sorry if it doesn't make a lot of sense! I'm not sure the terms I'm using are quite right, or if GarageBand even calls it those terms, but keep on keeping on! Just give yourself a lot of practice! 👍👍👍

Not usually? I use the original PV's usually, though I do draw for a few of them. But, I usually say when I do wherever I put credit on the video.
