Hangyoku and Kingyo-ya 1910s
Two hangyoku (young geisha) with a kingyo-uri (goldfish peddler) crouched behind them. Kingyo-ya (goldfish sellers) carry two large wooden tubs through the streets with a balance pole on their shoulders and decant the fish into kingyo-bachi (goldfish bowls). Text and image: Blue Ruin 1 on Flickr
