i like dialogue, and i like talking about dialogue, and a surprising amount of people were actually interested in reading a post that was just me talking about dialogue, so here we go:

obligatory disclaimer: obviously i’m by no means a Dialogue Expert, but i’ve written enough of it to have some confidence about the subject at least. also this post is centered around fic writing because that’s the kind of writing i have the most experience with, but hopefully there’ll be useful stuff in here for more general writing as well!! 

i’m gonna go over the four main things i keep in mind when writing dialogue, and then some shorter miscellaneous stuff that i’ve picked up over time! it’ll be under the cut though because this post is getting long.

so ive never made a post like this, but here goes:

yesterday, my mother was finally able to leave her physically and emotionally abusive boyfriend that we lived with. and while that’s great, we’re now homeless and sleeping on her sister’s couch. for obvious reasons we can’t stay here forever and we need our own place again, but my mother can’t support us both on her salary alone.

i’m currently looking for work to help out, but I’m only 17 so not everywhere will hire me. so because of this, any donations or art commissions would help immensely.

we don’t have any WiFi so I can’t use my computer, and my phone bill will run out in a few days, so doing job applications will become hard, so help now would be appreciated especially.
