altrxisme:
Jackson blinked in slight surprise to her words and was about to correct her in that he wasn’t of Mando descent. The language was simply one that he’s heard it often when a few friends of his late father visited them in Corellia back when he was little and picked up more of it during his time after resigning from the Senate Guard. Some of the older Mandalorian mercenaries that he’s worked with acknowledged his respect for their culture, which gave him more of associates and intel from Mandalore compared to most informants.
Unfortunately, the young man wasn’t able to clear that up with the mercenary once the man he was looking for walked up to them. Perhaps after this…
Frost blue eyes quietly watched the exchange between the two, just a touch from blending in the crowd despite how close he was to them had it not been for his droid companion beside him. It became clear to Jackson how the woman was seen by the man and he couldn’t help but furrow his brows once the contents of the chip was said out loud.
“ Wait, let me get this straight… They had ya doin’ that? Son of a Sith, that’s somethin’ I could’ve done with my eyes closed. Do we really need Mando mercenaries for small jobs like this? ”
With a click of his tongue, he shook his head and handed the man his own chip of data. Although it’s possible that General Organa may have issued such a command, especially with how the meticulous the First Order was, he doubted that this would be how she handled things. Which meant that someone just a rank or two lower than her would’ve taken care of matters.
“ Do we really have the funds ta have professionals muck about with work like this? I don’t think the General would approve of such activity. ”
The informant was typically cordial and courteous, the perfect example of how a soldier should be had he not resigned; so the not-so subtle bite that came with his words was somewhat shocking to the man who now carried two data chips. It was quite obvious that the man was offended with Jackson’s words, but with how long the young man has worked with them successfully he only managed a grumble and a stiff thanks before he turned on his heel.
“ … I didn’t even get a chance ta say what I had in mine. Wonder how that’ll turn out if it goes ta the wrong person. ”
It is immediately clear that her escort is as appalled as she is with the ridiculous errand they’d sent her on . Why waste money on a Mando mercenary just to send them on petty information gathers that anyone else in the Resistance could do ? Absolutely ridiculous . But if they were content to waste their money on her then Xetiash would stomach the ridiculous jobs. It was about as close to a vacation as she’d ever had in her life . Not even going home for a ‘break’ involved so much listlessness. At least there she trained and spent time with her people. There were things to do, whereas this may as well have been nap time to her.
Whoever Jackson is beyond an informant is unknown to her , but his quip seems to surprise the man who’s taken their data chips . The young man had been exceedingly polite and friendly , not something frequently experienced by the assassin . It isn’t necessarily surprising to find that his behavior was in fact his genuine personality . One of those golden children full of hope and a drive to enact change in the galaxy . Admirable, if not often doomed to their fate . Then again, the Rebels had squashed the Empire--it wasn’t unimaginable that the Resistance would now rebut the First Order.
People had a funny way of turning out their best when things were at their worst.
Watching the man’s back as he walks off with their data chips Xetiash smirks to herself beneath her helmet, shaking her head slowly as she notes the slightly faster pace at which the man is walking. Definitely spooked. Turning her head to face Jackson she sets her hands on her hips and surveys the area around them.
" It doesn’t appear that anyone overheard you. Or, if they did, they’re being very surreptitious about it. I think you should be safe enough. You don’t seem the type to receive backlash over something so small. ”
Her gaze finally settles back on Jackson and she nods in the direction that the man had disappeared.
" I, on the other hand, am no doubt going to be complained about. Again. Maybe if I scare the next one enough they’ll give me something to do. Or terminate my contract. Whichever. ”
With nothing left to do now, and no forthcoming orders, Xetiash finds herself stranded. She could always leave for a while and wait elsewhere, but knowing the Resistance they’d call her in the moment she landed somewhere interesting.

"Why, you stuck up, half-witted, scruffy-looking, Nerf-herder!"
" Captain, being held by you isn't quite enough to get me excited."
" I'd just as soon kiss a Wookiee."
"I don't know where you get your delusions, laser brain."
"Well, I guess you don't know everything about women yet."
"I hope you know what you're doing."
"You don't have to do this to impress me."
"Would it help if I got out and pushed?"
"I happen to like nice men."
" Stop that. My hands are dirty."
" I am not a committee!"
" I thought you knew this person."
" I have a bad feeling about this."
" We're going to get pulverized if we stay out here much longer."
"Some day you're gonna be wrong, I just hope I'm there to see it."
"You certainly have a way with people..."
"I don't know who you are or where you came from, but from now on you'll do as I tell you, okay?"
"Someone has to save our skins. Into the garbage chute, fly boy."
"I recognized your foul stench when I was brought on board."
"Aren't you a little short for a stormtrooper?"
" It's a wonder you're still alive."
"Will someone get this big walking carpet out of my way?"
"You came in that thing? You're braver than I thought."
"You needn't worry about your reward. If money is all that you love, then that's what you'll receive."
"Your friend is quite the mercenary. I wonder if he really cares about anything. Or anybody."
"They let us go. It was the only reason for the ease of our escape."
"I knew there was more to you than money.
"Put that thing away, you're gonna get us all killed!"
"Looks like you've managed to cut off our only escape route."
"This is some rescue! You came in here, but didn't you have a plan for getting out?"
"You're a jittery little thing, aren't you?"
"Who have they found to pull that off?"
"You know, no matter how much we fought I've always hated watching you leave.
"You think I want to forget him? I want him back."

This blog is going to be under some heavy construction while I figure out a new theme and get my verses together.
Since ‘Rogue One’ came out the fandom is suddenly alive again, which means it’s time go pop up here again, reformat some stuff, and try to get this blog started.

“ They use the term ‘safe for humans’ rather loosely at this bar . I wouldn’t suggest drinking that if you value your life . ”
The young man gave the other a shrug as they continue to pass by the others and entered the main base itself, ducking his head from getting hit by a vine. He knew that there were some people on base that didn’t trust him as much despite his work with the Senate. The informant didn’t take it to heart though since aside from intel gathering, he moonlighted as a mercenary as well. People like that typically went hand-in-hand with criminals after all, but there were some individuals that vouched for him when he first volunteered for the Resistance.
As much as he hated to admit it, Jackson had become so accustomed to wearing his own helmet through the years that he felt a little vulnerable with it off. He knew for a fact that he could count on the folks on base, that he could trust them, but after three years of working with various crime syndicates and gangs, it had become close to second nature to doubt those he worked with. Ever the optimist though, he kept the notion of believing in the best of everyone. It’s quite surprising to him how long he’s lasted while retaining it.
“ Really now? That’s definitely insultin’ ta someone of your caliber. They could’ve sent me instead, I’ve been hopin’ ta catch an easy assignment for a while. Perhaps we can trade? I’m sure you’ll find it more satisfyin’ with the ones I’ve got on my plate. ”
He gave the other a sympathetic smile as he understood what may have been going through her mind. The sight of authentic beskar slowly began to take to take his attention away though, the young man always ever-so curious at every moment. Unlike earlier though, he also listened to what the other was saying.
“ Ni ceta. At least On their behalf, I mean. I hope they give ya a more worthy objective this time around. I know I’d probably ask the same thing of them. My family’s work with the New Republic may have been what’ve saved me from goin’ through the same trouble as ya. There’s a couple head info- brokers around here and I can direct ya to the Ah, hold on. I think I’ve found our guy. “
“ A trade would be most welcome . Maybe they won’t notice if we swap places and bring back one another’s intel . What does it really matter, anyway ? They’ll still have their information. ”
Xetiash isn’t exactly unaccustomed to being distrusted. Nobody liked to really place their trust in a mercenary , no matter their record or ability. People just used them for the dirty work and tossed them aside the moment they ceased to be useful . She’d known plenty of spineless, sniveling mercenaries who were happy to sell off information about their jobs to the people on the other end of their gun , to twist around a situation for their own benefit no matter who had hired them . It was disgusting . No sense of honor or self respect at all.
Ni ceta.
The phrase has her attention instantly. It isn’t every day that she crossed someone who spoke Mando’a . Especially someone not wearing the traditional armor of Mandalore . What was he doing walking around without his beskar’gam ? His buy’se ? There wasn’t even an aliik on his clothing . Just the sigil of the Resistance . Shocking .
“ Wayii... I am surprised to find one who speaks Mando’a here. And yet you seem to have forsaken yourself. No beskar’gam , no buy’se...not even an aliik on your clothes to remind them who you are. The last time I saw someone who had abandoned our culture things were not going well for them. ”
There is no threat to her voice, just surprise and a calm tone of recollection. Apparently the man had forsaken his clan and taken a job against one of his own clan members . They had heard of the treason, of course . Three Mandalorian mercenaries against one man who had left behind his armor... well , it had been swift and bloody.
When they pause , the young man exclaiming that he’d found the guy that she could pass her information along to , she’s back to business. The tone of reminiscing is gone in an instant as he walks over to her . Though he speaks to her as though she was anyone else , she can see the mix of fear and disrespect in his eyes . If he was stupid and it had been on his face the fear would still be there , but matched with a sneer on his lips . Nobody trusted a mercenary .
She retrieves a chip from one of her pouches, handing it over without a word. When the man takes it , apparently waiting for some sort of explanation, she nearly rolls her eyes .
" The report I was asked to prepare . Information from Chandrila regarding Senate activities and the feelings of the general population . ”

The informant thought over her words and expressed his agreement with a slow nod of his head. No matter what kind of conflict there was, a loss of life would always follow. Whether it was immediate or within time, there was no denying the severity of what was happening around them. He hoped that the New Republic Council and their remaining Senators would catch on to that and assist the Resistance against the First Order.
Then again, as he’s realized during his time working with the Senate as a Guard, there were those who sympathized with the descendants of the exiled. Much to his dislike, he could see why they did. Jackson himself didn’t share the ideals of the Empire but their technological advancements and sense of organization was something the entire galaxy could benefit from. He’s seen how disorganized the Senate itself was and, perhaps it was just that his father had ingrained that sense of order, wasn’t as secure as many believed it to be.
Corruption was still present, discrimination between species and planets were still treated as fact, and there were those that took advantage of the then developing system of government. It was disgusting and uncivilized at most in his eyes.
But his opinion didn’t matter at the moment. What mattered now was ridding the galaxy of those who wish to cause mass destruction, to allow his family to live in peace for as long as possible. No more of his paternal grandparents having to travel often to remain off the Knights of Ren’s radar, no more of his maternal grandparents having to deal with the corrupt, and no more of mother worrying about her other children living in a world where there was WAR right at their front door.
“Caraya’s soul, I can’t help but take slight offense ta that, ma’am. That’s what I’ve been doin’ for a livin’ for the past few years or so. But yeah, you’ve done more active work than simple intel extraction. Which does bring us ta the question as ta why exactly you’re stuck with it…”
It certainly was a curious move on the General’s behalf. Then again, they were still a fairly new faction, albeit a military one. Specialization and organization should’ve been at the very top of their list, but he knew that it was rather difficult to accomplish what with some of those in the Senate who looked at them as warmongers.
In the back of her mind Xetiash counts soldiers they pass , tucks away anything she overhears that sounds interesting, picks out familiar faces in the crowds . The perks of having her face covered certainly included the ability to look around while in conversation without looking completely suspect and rude . Not that being rude was something she was particularly concerned with. Not here anyway . There were always plenty of other jobs around . One steady contract with mind numbing work didn’t stand a chance against a universe full of contracts and adventures . Not even one that claimed to be helping the greater good.
When her guide responds, revealing that he is, at the very least , one of the spies working for the Resistance , Xetiash’s eyebrows lift . Already she’s putting two and two together , finding reasons behind all this stupid half assed cloak and dagger. Putting someone like her on a tight leash for a test wasn’t something that usually ended well, but at least she understood why the stupid assignments kept coming her way.
“ I’m well aware that gathering information is no straightforward task . But I highly doubt you’re being assigned to pick up information that amounts to tidbits of gossip easily obtained by sitting in a market and eavesdropping . ”
Gloved hands slide over her hips , the woman silently going over the familiar weapons and items attached to her armor .
“ Although it does make sense . Certainly there are spymasters here . I’m an unknown variable . Loyal while I’m getting paid, but that doesn’t mean I’m doing the best job I can. A test, it seems. Getting me to pick up information that they already know and cross-referencing it to make sure I’m not leaving bits out. Maybe now they’ll give me something worth my time . Or maybe I should track down their spymaster . . . information broker . . . whoever they have. ”

Baron had the glass at his lips tipped up ready to drink but when he heard her warning he slowly replaced it back on the bar. “Give me something that’s safe without any warnings on it then if you would, please.” Baron said.
“ Excuse me? ”
The young woman’s eyes slide over to the bartender who is barely stifling his laughter.
“ You might want to direct that order to the bartender, not me. "
