S3 EP11

This scene really cemented to me how much they changed Karamatsu passed season 1.

In season 1 he’s the troupe of the ignored character who also happens to have a cool guy persona but here he is ASKED to participate and eventually speaks his true thoughts. After his outburst Choromatsu even says “I guess Exclusivematsu was a landmine”.

This is so vastly different from how he was first introduced to us and I love it so much!!! I love that he got so much more depth and that it’s shown to us. For all we know he might have been thinking these things in the past but we never got to hear it due to the joke being that he will be ignored.

I also love the portrayal of everyone else here. You can tell that by season 3 they’re all a lot more three dimensional than they initially were especially Jyushimatsu.

(And totty strangling oso for saying he has it the easiest as the youngest will never not be funny to me totty the man you are)

I absolutely loved this scene for this reason. Karamatsu was definitely the main "punching bag" of the group and was in general ignored like you said, mostly getting ordered around to do things for others cause he couldn't do or say anything for himself in the first two seasons.

So having a scene like this was not only a very good showcase of how fed up karamatsu was to be treated as just the brother they could treat like a used up toy to throw into the trash, it was also really satisfying to see him defend himself after so long of being the "exclusivematsu" as they so called him. Speaking true to what he actually thinks after they asked him to.

And also I think we can all agree that if they kept going with the whole: "LoL!!!! KaRaMaTsU gEtS iGnOrEd CoNsTaNtLy!!!!" joke for the rest of the series; it would get old REAL fast. It wouldn't surprise me if there was already a lot of people saying it wasn't funny anymore back when season 2 came along.

As someone who’s been watching Osomatsu-san since the first season came out (like I discovered it when the first season was coming out) I can safely say I was so fed up with the ignoring halfway through season 1 already. You can only make so many actually funny jokes before it just seems dull, repetitive and boring. Ofc would love to hear other opinions of people who’ve been around then

Saw this meme and decided on the headcanon that Osomatsu has no idea about any Internet lingo. So he always asks Totty, his Urban Dictionary, what these words mean, but this one Todomatsu refused to explain……

Okay back to overanalysing fr (sorry in advance)

What I think is so funny about this whole thing is the role each of the brothers plays in this. But the CHOICE is also so interesting.

The fact that Jyushimatsu and Osomatsu, the most goofy and over-the-top brothers are the one’s that stayed in reality💀 The fact Jyushimatsu was the one pointing out how the woman at the drugstore was just being friendly as part of customer service etc. is so fascinating to me. Both Osomatsu and Jyushimatsu observing without commentary with confused/disgusted faces is pure comedy but exactly THEM doing it, the most insane brothers (imo) just adds another layer of comedy to me.

Of course, the aspect of Choromatsu and Ichimatsu falling into the trap as well as both Karamatsu and Todomatsu tell their stories and are so moved by everything is not surprising to me at all. Neither is the choice of Choromatsu and Ichimatsu since I would say they are the most prone to fall into stuff like this

Now to Todomatsu and Karamatsu. I think this is such an interesting pairing for this part. Choromatsu and Todomatsu are the clear “call out” characters that exist in a lot of comedy anime and they usually function one at a time meaning either Todomatsu or Choromatsu fulfills that role in any given circumstance. However, the fact that both of them did not function as such in this skit is really interesting and a cool way of switching things up a bit. Todomatsu and Karamatsu are also not a regular pairing so having them be in such a conflict is also a nice change of pace.

What surprises me the most though is that Todomatsu fell into this. I would say that out of all the brothers he is the most realistic when it comes to dating most of the time which is proven in many moments (Sutaba, the mixer ep with Oso, the first movie when Oso revealed they’re virgin NEETs). So, that he ‘falls in love’ so quickly even though he, like proven in previous scenes, has experience with women is so funny. I think it’s a cheeky way of showing us that at the end of the day Totty is still a virgin like the rest of them and stuff like this can happen to him even though he might have more knowledge than the other brothers.

Now, Karamatsu ‘falling in love’ as well doesn’t surprise me as something like this is pretty on brand for him. What also doesn’t surprise me is him “taking a backseat” thinking that Todomatsu will also give him some grace. But the reveal that Totty is like “kthxbye” is so funny. It’s so Totty. Why would he show the same grace? When does he ever? What’s great is that Karamatsu then doesn’t give in and stands his ground, which results in the cruel reality that it was customer service and they were both being very delusional. With the end scene being that they’re comforting each other and also letting their frustration out on one another, which is also quite rare for them as a pair.

So, all in all, the whole construction of this skit was so incredibly funny and a breath of fresh air and truly makes me laugh every time I watch it.

When I was younger I was pretty neutral towards Totty (I first watched Osomatsu when I was 16 when the last eps of the first season were coming out) but now that I’m older I love him more and more. He’s just so damn relatable and funny in his own way. Him also being the youngest sibling like I am is also true comradery. 🙏🏻

One thing that was always interesting to me with these scenes was that while yes Karamatsu’s people pleaser nature got the best of him, I still think how it’s kinda sweet?

The other matsu brothers call him weird for doing this but to me it feels like Karamatsu felt a sense of debt to her since he “created” her. Hence fulfilling her demands and admitting he knows she’s awful but he can’t leave her by herself and how he had to stay by her side.

Idk maybe overanalysing a dumb anime isn’t the best idea but I can’t help it as a literary scholar 🫠🫠🫠
