Members of the Owls, a black women’s softball team in the 1930s
Not sure, but they’re likely the Seattle Owls Club, the Seattle City Champs of 1939 and winners of Washington’s statewide 1938 softball championship held at Sick’s Stadium, the same stadium that in 1946 would be home to the Seattle Steelheads (which included player Herb Simpson). Another look:
By the end of the 1940s, the Pacific Northwest was also home to the Seattle Royal Giants, Queen City All-Stars, and the Carver Athletic Club. The Black Heritage Society of Washington State has also preserved some photos of the Seattle Gophers from 1911. The Northwest African American Museum hosted an exhibit in 2014 called “Pitch Black: African American Baseball in Washington.”
