Hi, the colours of the blog (the blue and the maroon) are clashing with each other, making it difficult to read the words. lightening the blue and/or darkening the maroon would be really helpful. Love your blog!

Zuko is the one who respects Katara the most, appreciates her for who she is and sees deep inside of her to her core. There’s something very special about that. Katara has to fit different roles for different people, but with Zuko she can just be Katara. He’s like a breath of fresh air.

We don’t talk enough about the fact Zuko would rather have been crushed by rocks just so Katara wouldn’t have been…

If I have to see another idiot claim Katara and Aang never gave sister-brother or maternal vibes I’ll scream. In the original outline, Aang literally calls her a maternal figure. Katara talks about how it’s her duty to “nurture” him.

“Katara appreciates Aang’s gestures, but is not interested in romance. She dotes on him more like a kid she baby-sits rather than a potential love interest.”

Is an actual quote that exists from the bible. To argue this point is disingenuous and shows a lack of knowledge on the development of the series.

Co-creator and executive producer described their dynamic as “that dynamic of being the young kid having a crush on the older girl, and she loves you but like a babysitter, you know, like a little brother or something.”

In Avatar the Last Airbender: Legacy, Katara says she fell for Aang watching him grow into a man, which all kinds of disturbing and extremely out of character for her. It’s also her admitting she used to see him as a kid and little brother who needed her protection. This shift in view is more than a little creepy and a horrific writing choice I do not understand how people support.

Kay, but look at how hard Katara is not looking at what’s happening. This exchange is so close, they’re actually touching her. That is a choice. She knows what’s going on in her periphery, and she is 100% not acknowledging it so she doesn’t have to kowtow to Aang’s feelings and intervene.

I always interpreted this as Katara feeling fully comfortable with Zuko. I don’t imagine Katara is always worrying about Aang’s feelings for her. The guy she likes (Zuko) is sitting next to her. If you approach this from the perspective they’re both crushing on each other, this action makes sense.

She’s ignoring it because inside she’s flustered but trying to play it cool, and Zuko sat next to her because he’s falling in love with her. I don’t think either even thought about Aang in this moment, because this is THEIR romance and THEIR feelings, so why would they? To them, Aang is a kid. He’s a friend, but he’s also a kid. I think that does impact their perception of these events.

This isn’t two romantic rivals fighting over the girl, this is a kid with an impossible crush that is largely ignored and dismissed. Aang is a third wheel in the romance between Katara and Zuko. This is how it was always designed to be.
