Albums I've been enjoying lately pt.3

Just a couple more, bear with me lol.

Anden som Gjorde Oppror by Mortiis is a masterful dungeon synth album. I confess, I haven't gotten super deep into Mortiis, not as much as I'd like to be, but I do really enjoy this album and plan to get it on physical media as soon as possible.

Song of Salvation by Dream Unending. Where do I even start? The Pink Floyd of doom metal, and you can't even say I'm wrong! Absolutely beautiful and deeply moving doom metal, eternally grateful to the split with Worm, Starpath, for introducing me to this band. Trust and believe, the oxblood and blue vinyl pressing of this will be mine as soon as I get my grubby paws on it.

The Nocturnes Od Iswylm by Stormkeep. An incredible symphonic black metal band that won me over years ago with Tales of Othertime. If I ever find myself back in Colorado, I'd love to see them live and shoot the shit with the band members. I think we've realized by now that I'm a huge fan of symphonic black metal.

Lift Your Skinny Fists Like Antennas to Heaven by Godspeed You! Black Emperor. I'll admit, I'm extremely late to the party with this band, but this album made me fall in love with it. Takes you to another dimension, truly a pinnacle of human creation.

Rabenflug by Dies Ater is one of my favorite demos in all of black metal. Best believe the second I heard it I burnt it onto CD, needed this in my life. I'd love to own this on physical media just to honor it. Huge thanks to my lovely boyfriend for showing it to me!

Il Etait une Foret by Gris, god don't get me started. Other than the absolutely gorgeous album cover, this is one of the top 10 black metal albums of all time at least. A grail of mine for physical media, would absolutely kill to own the vinyl.

Albums I've been enjoying recently pt.2

Recently I've been to quite a few concerts, which has been an incredible time. I met many friends, including my boyfriend. I saw La Dispute in April, Cradle of Filth in May, and Worm just a few days ago for the second time.

I guess the point of these posts is to put you guys onto some gold picks, while also having a journal for myself digitally. Gives me something to do at work on my downtime.

Panorama by La Dispute. Not their most famous work by any means, but certainly some of their best, at least in my opinion. Anxiety Panorama is the song I hear whenever I picture this band; La Dispute has been an extremely important band to me for the past couple years. I consider them a sort of sanctuary.

Oath Bound by Summoning is one of my favorite dungeon synth albums and should 100% be considered one of the best of all time. Poetry as an album, you truly feel like you are in Middle Earth listening to it.

Ingesting Putridity by Visceral Disgorge is my favorite slam/brutal death album of all time and it's not even close. While I'm not the best at naming genres or sorting them by any means, this is THE slam/brutal death album ever. The nastiest riffs and breakdowns and vocals that sound like another instrument in the mix. Absolutely NASTY work

Stygian Dreams by Asphodelus is a perfect example of Finnish death-doom and is up there with Rippikoulu for me. A melancholic, gothic sound reminiscent of Katatonia and Worm. Found these guys through a T-shirt website actually.

Pilzritual der Hexen by Hexenmeister is a perfect kellersynth/tanzelcore album (again I'm not great at genres), this album is what I picture when I picture those two genres. Very.. gloopy? No idea how to explain it, probably lost credibility by outing myself as a tanzelcore enjoyer.

Albums I've been enjoying recently pt.1

I decided to start actually using this as a blog instead of just an aesthetics account. Completely dedicated to music and art would be pretty sick, so that's what I'm going to do.

III by foxtails is a beautiful and haunting album, one of the most emotional projects I've ever come across. foxtails makes the most vulnerable creations, with references to Girl, Interrupted making it hit extremely close to home for me.

Soknardalr by Windir is probably the band's best work, at least in my opinion. Sogndal Norway produces some of the best black metal you'll ever hear. Melodic and folkish, a masterful album from a legendary black metal project. Hail Valfar.

Lord of Nightmare by Endless Dismal Moan is some of the most brutal sounds I've ever heard come out of Japan. Crushing but catchy riffs, banshee-like vocals that sound straight out of a snowstorm, a symphonic aspect; truly an incredible album. RIP CHAOS 9

Portal of Sorrow by Xasthur. You all knew this was coming if you know anything about me. Worm may be my favorite all time band, but Xasthur will top everyone else in my book. Scott's last black metal album before the forming of Nocturnal Poisoning and his shift to neofolk. Haunting vocals, despair-inducing instrumentals that you would expect from a master such as Scott Conner.

La Grande Heresie by Zeicrydeus is like nothing I've ever heard before. Despite Phillipe Tougas' familiar and signature style, he never runs out of ideas and this proves it. Nasty vocals, riffs that take me right back to 80s metal, extremely esoteric and nostalgic. Phil Tougas is my absolute favorite guitarist.

XASTHUR LIVE PERFORMANCES

Xasthur was featured in the creative process of many of the songs on Black One by Sunn O))), including the “rumored” recording of Bathory Erszebet where he was locked in a coffin. This rumor is indeed true. The picture featured is of the very event. It has also been confirmed by the man himself. He played live with Sunn O))) a few times over the years, and formed a friendship with the band. Present day, Xasthur still tours, playing acoustic renditions of older work or his newer neofolk work.
