it’s a busy server, which can be a little overwhelming at first! in our rules channel there’s a helpful guide on how to mute channels/categories so that you only receive notifications you want (this is especially useful for the mobile app so that you won’t be totally bombarded with notifications!)

Today’s Captain Swan Rewrite-a-Thon spotlight features @katealexandra26!

How long have you been writing for the OUAT fandom? Did you write anything else (original or fan fiction) before joining the OUAT fandom? Are you writing anything non-OUAT now that the show is over? 

Since 2016. Before OUAT, I wrote a Harry Potter fanfic. I haven’t written anything in since I’ve abandoned my OUAT fics.

What sort of fic do you like to write? What sort of fic do you like to read?

I like modern AUs and canon divergent stories.

What kind of rewrite will you be doing?

Rewriting the beginning of an abandoned story and then finishing it.

Tell us about your Rewrite-a-Thon story! What’s it about, and why did you decide to rewrite it?

I just miss writing and I’d like to finish at least one of my abandoned fics. I’m hoping finishing this story will have me in the right mood to work on some other stories that I don’t think are good candidates for this rewrite-a-thon but I’d like to see through if possible.

What are you most excited about when it comes to rewriting your story?

I’m looking forward to seeing it completed. Most of my stories are abandoned and unfinished due to me kind of checking out of the fandom in Season 7 and for other more personal reasons.

CSBB Snippet

Tears filled his eyes as emotions and memories he hadn’t experienced in years began to bombard him. It was overwhelming to see these remnants of a life that no longer felt like he had lived. Liam was kind enough to pretend that he did not notice Killian’s emotional breakdown. Killian found himself wondering how his brother would react if he was here, if he knew everything Killian had done since he had left this place. Killian had a strong feeling that he would not like the answer to his question. “I had one of the servants bring food. Up those steps you shall find a bedchamber that you may make use of for as long as you’d like. Please make yourself at home. If you should need me, ring the bell and my steward, Ned, will alert me. I will leave you to your thoughts,” Liam assured him softly, closing the door behind him on his way out. Killian glanced around the room one last time before climbing the winding steps to the bedchamber that had been set aside for him. As he entered the room he found a luxurious four poster bed in the center of the room that had rich brocade curtains to block out the morning light. Thrown half on top of a chest that rested at the foot of the bed and the bottom of the bed itself were several furs that were intended for colder nights. To the left of the bed was a small writing desk and armchair and to the right was a large fireplace that had embers smouldering in the grate. Killian pondered how long this room had stood ready for a ghost that never appeared. He could feel his heart breaking as so many thoughts raced through his mind.

Remember in Season 1 how Lucy said she was in an accident where her car went off a bridge and into a body of water and a random "stranger" saved her??? Well I've always thought it was Wyatt who saved her. And now we have proof the Time Team can travel to a time they've already been to it's even more likely my theory could be true. Now we just need a season 3 so shit can be resolved and I can see if this ever comes up.

CSBB Snippet

Here’s a snippet from a CSBB work in progress for you to enjoy!

Every doctor he has been to has said the same thing - they were just dreams. How else could he explain the strange surroundings he finds himself in, in these dreams. Most times it’s with this young girl, Alice, in some kind of a room, high up in a tower. Sometimes, there is another blonde woman, but he has never seen her face. He could not pick her out of a line-up if he had to, in all honesty. But unlike the dreams with the girl, whenever he dreams of that woman, he wakes up crying and his chest hurting.

There were days that he cursed these dreams - they remind him just how truly alone he was in this world. He had a brother once, who he served with in the Navy, but that seemed like it was centuries ago. He did not have a daughter, or some blonde woman like the one plaguing his dreams. He had no one. Why would his mind taunt him so? Show him this life, in this strange land - when all he had was a 20 year sober chip and a job that doesn’t necessarily require him to stay in one place. He’s been searching, going from city to city, town to town, looking for a place to call home.

“Killian. Mr. Jones is either my father or my brother,” he replied, staring up at the ceiling. He hadn’t even glanced at her once, not even when the door closed behind her. Interesting… She nodded. “Killian, then. Are you here for your usual exam?”

“Aye, love. Though if you wanted to offer a more…thorough examination, I’m not one to argue.” Killian almost purred, eyeing her up. Gods, she was beautiful, and if those eyes were anything to go by, a more spirited lass. Someone who would give as good as she got.

“Let’s keep it simple, and just let me listen to your heartbeat. Then we can talk about your most recent bloodwork,” Emma replied, taking her stethoscope and pressing it gently against his chest.

He’d never been aboard a ship that was clearly occupied by real pirates. Not to mention the weird creature that cackled like a maniac while he squeezed a pulsing heart in his hand.

Every single time Milah crumbled in front of his feet while he was bound to the mast, not able to help her in any way. He could only watch when the creature that looked a lot like Milah’s husband squeezed her heart harder and harder. And then the bonds were gone, but he couldn’t do more than drop down on his knees beside her and hear her whisper how much she loved him before the man who clearly wasn’t a mere human crushed her heart and killed her.

Every time he felt as if his heart was crushed right alongside hers, the ache only overshadowed by the raw physical pain when the monster hacked of his hand and disappeared in a cloud of purple smoke.

And every single time, in the seconds before he woke up, sweat-soaked and trembling, a blonde woman appeared in his peripheral view. Just a blurry vision. A woman he felt drawn to. A woman who seemed to be dear to his heart. These last few seconds of this particular dream were the only ones that seemed to be a real memory. But he didn’t know that woman. He was absolutely certain he’d never met her before. But each time he woke up from that particular dream with his heart beating wildly in his chest the same whispered words lingered in his ears.

It was just a kiss.

“Emma. I’ve been watching you, you know.” Zelena sat in the small space of her quarters in a plush Emerald chair, upholstered in shimmering velvet and lined in golden embroidery. The cabin was narrow with a small window, the chair, candles lit haphazardly, a canopied bed that was built into what might have been a small closet before, a bookshelf, a cedar chest, and small table covered in bottles. The door closed behind her, and Emma gulped.

“Yes.”

“I’ve noticed what you think you’ve been hiding from everyone.” Zelena smiled deviously, steepling her fingers. The hair on the nape of Emma’s hair stood. “Did you really think you could keep it a secret?”

Emma stared into the crimson haired woman’s eyes. “I don’t know-”

”You should embrace it, like I have. It’s a gift, no matter what weak minded fools say.” Zelena made a dismissive motion towards the door, her mouth curling into a sneer. “Magic is nothing to hide.”

”Magic?” Emma let out a breath of relief, her face contorting in confusion. “What are you talking about, magic?”

It was Zelena’s turn to be confused. She blinked several times, her face falling into a confused and astonished expression. “Emma, my pet, your magic. It radiates off you, honestly- How could you not notice?”

Emma’s heart began to race. “I haven’t ever… I mean, I don’t have-”

”You’ve healed Snow when she fell from the rigging. A fall like that should have broken her back.”

“That was luck, she slowed herself by catching some rope.” Zelena shook her head.

“You’ve conjured sunlight during gray days, and when you sing, dolphins and mermaids come near.”

“Mermaids are always seeking pirates to lure to the grave, and dolphins, well…” She swallowed hard. “They think we’ll throw out fish.” The candles in the room seemed to dim.

Even right now, you’re messing with the candle light. You could be a more powerful sorceress than me, even, with the training.” Zelena’s eyes seemed to grow greener, glittering like a cat who caught the canary.

“No, I believe you are mistaken, these are all just coincidences. I don’t even know the first thing abou-”

Zelena shot a bolt of green fire at her, and she flinched, smelling the sulfuric flame that she was sure she’d feel licking her with it’s acid tongue of pain soon. He hands warmed, but nothing bit her with a burning bite. She peeked open one eye. The flame rested before her, held by a white light flooding from her palms, flickering in the cabin. All the candles were out, the green light casting an unearthly shadow over everything, tinging the space emerald. Zelena’s face was a sly smile.

“When would you like to begin your lessons, my darling pet?”

Tucking her chin down to better stare through Robin’s sunglasses, Emma frowned. His face was honest. It didn’t look like he was lying to her, but Emma had been wrong before. “If you make the turn to go to the hotel instead of to the highway, I’m calling 9-1-1 to report my kidnapping,” Emma said after several moments of considering Robin’s expression. “In fact-” she brought up the dial pad on her phone and pressed nine before showing it to him, “just a precaution.” 

Robin blinked. “Do I look like a kidnapper?”

“I could see your face on a wanted poster,” Emma said simply before opening the front passenger door.

“Princess-”

Emma held up a hand. “I don’t want any of that. No ‘Princess’, no ‘your Majesty’, no–”

“Your Highness is the appropriate term for a princess.”

“Really? What did I just say?” Emma glowered at her step-grandmother’s body guard. “It’s Emma. Just Emma.” Whatever titles her step-grandmother and her minions insisted that she had, Emma knew that none of them applied to her. American girls in combat boots and thick glasses didn’t come with titles. Titles of books they needed to read for English class or maybe titles of term papers that were a few days overdue, but nothing akin to “Princess.”

“Of course,” he said, pausing, “Emma.”

Emma wished she had the energy to offer him a smile in gratitude, but all she could manage was a small nod as she climbed into the front seat.

Ok, I do not ship Lucy and Flynn, but it was nice of him to give Lucy a drink. A good friend doesn't need to talk to be helpful. Just being there when your friend is miserable is all it takes. It's nice to see Flynn building better relationships with the Time Team.
