so many of my favourite qifrey moments happen when coco has either scared the everliving teacher heart out of him or otherwise confronted him into a moment of honesty haha. 'I don't want there to BE a next time, Coco!!!!!' you have my entire heart you strange little man

Since early in the series I have seen people talk about Morty Prime becoming an 'evil Morty' (comparing him to EM of course). Especially when Morty started getting more character development and getting a little bit sick of Rick's shit. When he started defending himself and turning violent (sometimes unprovoked).

And I've been thinking more about it. It's fair to say that EM turned out that way, in part, because he 'hated' Rick (I'm now more hesitant in that statement since S9 E1, I'd rather say he was just incredibly sick of Rick, which are the words he himself uses). So he's an 'Evil Morty' because he's sick of Rick.

But it's not that simple of course. I bet a lot of Mortys are sick of Rick. He's an Evil Morty because he was smart, cunning and ruthless enough to break free from the curve, killing thousands of Ricks and Mortys in the process, caring only about himself. That's what makes him evil.

Now imagine an Evil Morty who isn't evil for 'being sick of Rick' or for 'hating Rick' (as his core motivation) but instead for loving him too much. A Morty who is just as smart as EM, but who loves his Rick so desperately that he would do anything to keep him safe, even from himself.

A Morty who would easily overpower his Rick and uses such advantage to make sure he'd never hurt himself again. And make sure his Rick would never leave or replace him, of course.

(I may or may not be in the process of writing a fic with this premise, about Morty Prime, post S9 E2)

Feels like a lot of denial tbf. Like I said in one of my first posts, I didn't even ship Rickorty until season SEVEN. I spent my time watching the show beforehand with the mindset of "oh lol incest joke" every once in a while but eventually its literally unarguable.

Not only is it HEAVILY implied for Rick C-137 and Morty Prime, its canon across the multiverse for infinite Ricks and Mortys, this is acknowledged in and out of the show by writers and even one of the literal fucking creators, broh.

There's something ironic, fateful and quite charming about the fact that Elizabeth comes from a race of people that realizes mind control as an act of, well, control. And then she goes and marries a compulsive liar.

He lies to you because he cares for you, Ellie. He skips and dances and never reveal his true intentions for your safety. He hurts and keeps you at bay cause he doesn't know what he would do if you were truly hurt. Of course he cares for you, he keeps you close and protect you from everyone and everything all the time.

And sometimes I wonder, when she considers Meliodas for every decision that she makes, when he's this fundamental stone of the way she sees the world. I wonder if being her mother's daughter didn't feel the same.

The pre-Christian Norse spiritual worldview is animistic, which means that it's informed by direct experiences and observations of nature, interpreted through the lens of human experience and feelings. You know how we watch snow swirl around think that it looks playful, or watch a wildfire and think that it looks angry? It involves that kind of thing.

But when most people think of pre-Christian religions, they tend to imagine later forms of Greek and Roman polytheism. The problem here is that these Greeks and Romans had begun to think of divinity in more abstract, transcendent ways, and had begun to imagine the gods as rulers of things rather than the spirits of things.

Loki isn't the lord of mischief, he's the spirit of mischief. He's in the little voice telling you make that shitpost and to stop caring about being "cringe." He's in your cat's impulse to knock something off the counter to watch it bounce or roll. Loki manifests in every accidental innuendo and hilarious typo, in every spilled cup of coffee, and every paperwork mix-up. (This is why he's a shapeshifter! He can be anything!)

So when media depicts a Loki riddled with repression and shame - say, for example, a Loki who sneers at modern media or the culture of the common folk - it's depicting a Loki who can't really Loki. That poor spirit has been bound and gagged.

Certain popular media has depicted Thor and Loki as some kinds of opposites, but when we consider the animist perspective we can see there is a serious problem with this. Loki and Thor being depicted as companions isn't some random whim; it's a reflection of the reality that thunderstorms bring chaos.

A Loki informed by Norse mythology shouldn't be complaining about Thor's "oafishness" or whatever, he should be encouraging him to wreak even more havoc. Loki shouldn't be here out of some real or imagined obligation, he should be here because he expects he's going to have a pretty good time, and because he hopes to make the situation as ridiculous as possible.

Loki being the spirit of mischief is also why depicting him as hostile to humanity isn't really in the spirit of the pre-Christian Norse worldview. Mischief and chaos are not anti-human; they're just realities of the world that humans inhabit. I get how it's easy to infer that Loki must have something against humans due to his oppositional role toward the Aesir in the Ragnarok story, but that's an extremely Christian reading of the narrative. The story is simply describing the collapse of civilization and end of the world as we know it through Norse animistic comprehension. Loki only has an issue with the Aesir, who bound him in a cave to be tortured with serpent venom. Humanity is neither here nor there for him.

Oh, so not much has changed.

So, Loki's always been a jealous little thing, especially when comes Thor, has been happening since they were children and has frequently caused problems.

And I was wondering, now that Loki is God of Stories, now that he's emotionally grown is there any difference?

Um, no-

Not really, not when having to share Thor with "new" people.

He's even giving him the unjust punishment Odin gave him (minus the kid's organs) and the title he spent eons of torment and death trying to get rid of.

We can even see his face go from sympathy because he knows what it's like to be Odin's forgotten son, he knows what like to just want it to end-

To rage because Thor gave him mercy as a brother.

It's even referenced in Al Ewing's current work.

In conclusion, when comes to sharing Thor's love with anyone he doesn't have to, Loki turns into Golum, or a hissing cat, whichever you prefer.
