Rin woke up abruptly, lying on a cold, hard stone floor and looking up at the stone ceiling. She felt deeply exhausted, something she recognized but hadn't felt in a long time: she was low on chakra. That... wasn't a good sign, was it?. She groaned, sitting up slowly, and looking around. She was sitting inside a huge seal painted on the floor.
"Isobu?" She had no answer, and a peek into her mindscape found the bijuu sleeping deeply. Alright, definitely not good. As she stood up, her awareness of what had happened started to come back to her. Right; she had been on a mission, leading two chunin to the east coast of the Land of Fire, where a couple of kids had accidentally found a hidden facility hidden off the coast when they ventured to look for shells during the low tide.
The elders of the nearby village had seen the Uzushio symbol in the door and sent a letter to Konoha, and the Sandaime had decided to send her since she had a considerable amount of knowledge in Uzumaki seals. After getting a tailed beast sealed in her, and saved by the skin of her teeth by Kushina and Minato's combined seal expertise, she had become interested in fuuinjutsu.
Well, she hadn't expected one of her teammates to accidentally activate a giant seal as she examined it. Her reflex had been to push the two of them away, and in her haste, she had used water ninjutsu to do it.
And then everything had gone black. There was no trace of her teammates, and something (it was the amount of chakra that she was missing, along with Isobu's chakra) told her the seal had done something. She didn't know what, but something had happened.
She combed the entire place looking for the two chunin she was supposed to keep safe, finding absolutely no trace of them or the campsite they had left outside. Then, she went into the village, looking for any clues, and that was when it started to get really weird. No one there recognized her. The elders didn't remember contacting Konoha or even the facility Rin told them about.
At this point, the sun was setting, and she sat down, looking at the ocean that faced Uzushio (and further on, the Land of Mist), trying to think what her next step would be. She could keep on searching, or she could go back to Konoha for help. It was just… The fact that the people in the village hadn't recognized her made her feel uneasy. Not to mention that hours had passed, and Isobu was still asleep, and she was absolutely exhausted.
She wondered what her teammates would have done. Kakashi would probably have better ideas than her, and Obito would probably not feel discouraged and depressed so easily.
But Rin felt lonely. She really wished they were there with her.
