Prologue: Summer Fever
Thud!
The door would hit the basket next to the wall, as Aaron walked into the bathroom. Aaron would sleepily brush his hand across the sink accidentally knocking over the container holding the toothbrushes. The electric toothbrushes would go off zapping around the sink. Aaron with an annoyed side would grab them and turn them back off and then shoving them into the container which you sloppily put back onto the counter of the sink. Aaron would then grab his toothbrush using his other hand to grab the toothpaste then flipping off the cap would place it onto the brush.
Aaron without putting the cap on would put it back on the counter brushing his teeth as he did. Aaron would look in the mirror using his free hand to brush into his messy yellow hair with his fingers. Aaron's deep tired blue eyes would meet his reflections. Aaron would spit out the pace into the sink, Aaron would barely wash out his brush placing it back sloppily into the container. Aaron would then stomp out of the bathroom.
...
Aaron would walk into the den turning on the light. Aaron would walk over to the couch grabbing his red and black, scratched up backpack. Aaron would place it onto his back as he began to walk out of the den turning off the light as he did, walking into the kitchen Aaron would go over to the fridge and open it to grab his lunch. On top of his lunch was a note from his mother. Aaron would begin to slim it as he began to move his backpack over so he could place the lunch in the bag.
'Good morning honeybun!-'
Aaron would roll his eyes, "Step-bitch"
'and I are dropping off the girls at daycare..'
"Blah blah blah"
Aaron would show the note into his pocket after he successfully placed the lunch in the backpack. Aaron would begin walking into the living room to the front door as his foot would then be attacked by a 'wild' black kitten as he passed the couch. Aaron would look down and try to hold back a small smile. Aaron would 'kick' the kitty away, but the small black void would take it as an initiative to play going ahead biting his shoe. Aaron would crouch down to pick up the kitten by the scuff and then give them a couple quick kisses to then toss them on a bunch of pillows on the couch.
All while the kitten was purring attempting to get back to him, but Aaron this time was faster. Aaron would quickly run out the front door. Aaron would look ahead of him seeing his neighborhood street. Right in front of his house was the corner with a stop sign. One familiar face was leaning on the stop sign holding her purse.
Her eyes closed and a smile etched on her face. Aaron would begin walking down his house sidewalk to his driveway then he would get on to the sidewalk to then finally make it to the stop sign. Nina would hum at his presence as she opened one of her eyes to look slightly down at him. "Hey Nina.." Aaron would say yawning holding back a smile. Mischief would fill her round golden brown eyes, " Took you long enough sleepyhead." Aaron would hold himself back from rolling his eyes instead he puffed up his cheeks, "At least I get sleep."
Waving his hand at her face hinting at her eye bags. Nina would only laugh in return although it was slightly muffled out from the medical mask she wore. The sounds of steps attempting to walk past them on the sidewalk would alert them to move slightly other way for Donna his neighbor. Donna looked more nervous today than usual, but if Aaron was correct he thinks Donna works in an office. So probably some work stuff or something something about sickness going around.
Either way he hopefully Donna would feel better later today she was pretty nice. Aaron's intention would go right back to Nina who was still laughing holding her chest, "Oh pipe it down Miss insomniac." This would cause her laughing to get worse, "Sorry, sorry." Nina would say as she corrected her medical mask which had slightly fallen down and she had leaned slightly over from laughing. "Oh how you hurt my feelings Aaron.", Nina would retort playfully.
Aaron would fake annoyance as Nina continued the giggle as their bus 343 would finally arrive. Aaron would look at their bus driver it seems they got him again. He liked Tim, he was chill. Aaron and Nina would look at each other as they got on.
...
Aaron was sitting on the outside of the seat Nina next to the window her head on the glass. Aaron had his backpack to his legs and Nina had her purse on her lap. Aaron would chew his cheek as he looked around slightly, there was obnoxious music being played by the redhead and unbearably loud noises from the boy next to her phone he was clearly texting someone. At the back of the bus was a familiar face and he would not knowledge. Aaron would look back to his own seat to the window Nina was leaning her head on. There was a girl at one of the bus stops with long black hair, pale, blue backpack, messy put on clothes, lean and short. Coughing out her lungs.
Aaron would try to stop his eyebrows from furrowing, but At last it was a failed achievement. Aaron would then look away. At least the bus was quiet now it seems the redhead put on some blue header phones and the boy finally had his phone in his bag although he had a worried expression... Aaron would look outside the window again they had already passed her. Something about it made him feel iffy like something had just dropped in his stomach. Whatever.
...
Slam!
Aaron would close this locker, Nina right by him leaning on the locker next time. Nina was playing with her long brown hair or more like redoing it putting some of her hair back into two buns leaving the rest to lay out on her back. Nina would meet his eyes, although he could see it he knew she was smiling. Two girls would laugh in the background Aaron would look over from the corner of his eyes they were blocking the courtyard as if that wasn't going to bite them in the ass. Aaron hears them chatting about some girl vomiting and laughing about it.
Nina would snap her fingers at him or at least attempt too. Aaron would look at her and her silent attempts at snapping. Aaron would playfully smirk at her, even though Nina's expression didn't change he knew she was exasperated with him. "SOOOO, prom.", Nina would say to him looking away at first kicking her left leg side to side as she then looks at them again. Aaron held back an eye roll, "Prom?"
Aaron would say slightly annoyed. Nina's eyes would light up with a playful tone in them, "Yessss~. P-R-O-M." Aaron would attempt to hold back a laugh, "Summer just ended, Nina." Nina will kick her leg again back and forth, "Sooo? Prom? Who you going with gay boy?" Aaron would bark out and laugh at that, "fucking business, also how the hell should I know."
Nina's eyes with squint clearly a smirk under that damn mask ain't hiding shit. "I don't know, it's not like it's our first year here. There's some pretty things you can take to prom. Come on it's the last year, start thinking ahead. Who you taking the prom??" The sound of crutches and footsteps would pass them as Aaron attempted to figure out if he thought this was worth it to reply or not, "Alright I'll tell you." Nina's eyes would glow, "Whooooo!" Aaron would look her straight in the eyes straighten his posture and with a straight face, "Nick."
Nina would instantly deflate her, posture sunk down, her expression visually distraught and disgusted. "If you take him to prom I'm going to kill myself." Aaron then broke down laughing. "Shut up shut up it's not funny Aaron. That fuck-face is an asshole! You better not take his ass to prom, as if Nicolass would accept. That excessive asshat will not leave me the fuck alone." Aaron would force himself to breathe to calm down his laughter, "Calm down, no it's not going to take his ass." Nina would let out a breath, "Thank gosh, I thought. I thought for a moment. Just a moment. Your taste in men was just as trash as your room."
Aaron's left fist collided in her stomach as Nina would let her choke chuckle. "Oh fuck off dumb bitch." Nina would then grab by his mullet pulling, "Oh shut up, I'm right! Little shit." After playfully wrestling a bit, they would both stop and laugh a bit. Looking around seeing no teachers or other students or at least not important ones.. a very specific jab to the girls who were by the courtyard on the ground after the same boy who was his phone on the bus tripped knocking them all over. Nina and Aaron would begin heading off to their class before they would be late.
As they did footsteps could be heard approaching the three on the ground.
...
The Bell finally went off, almost everyone was seated There were a fair bit of empty seats. In front of the class was mostly boys minus one girl with a messy ponytail. Behind her was Nick and the unfortunate soul behind him was Nina. Aaron was in the far back of the class next to a redhead a familiar redhead on the bus plus the shit talker who had a cat hat in front of him. Their teacher was Mrs. Ail, remembered her as their science teacher's wife?
He was aware that she was the math teacher as well, honestly it was nice to see her again. Sometimes she would come by their class and drop off supplies and sometimes snacks. Very nice lady indeed. Today she seems to be wearing a pink hijab that matches her pink, long dress. Most likely Mr. Ail was matching her in color at least, it was kind of adoring how they would do that to match each other.
"Good morning!!", Mrs. Ail would say cheerfully with a big smile. Holding her ruler up to the board that was currently blank, "Now before we start class I was told to make an announcement, as you all know there seems to be a flu going around. We're going to be handing out permission sheets in the media center we will be giving out shots for the flu. So make sure you ask your parents to sign. Now that we got that out of the way, we will be getting on to algebra 2. Please pull out your pencils and papers." Aaron would grab his paper and pencil as he did he looked across the room to Nina. Who was incredibly irritated, looking to see why he looked at Nick. Nick was looking at her smirking and winking at her.
He needs a hint, because if you can tell what Nina's thinking by just looking at her eyes alone. You already got a huge sign that you need to back off soon. Aaron would talk about with him later, especially how it's coming across sooo cringe and how he needed to respect Nina a bit more. Also to not look so damn frustrated when she rolls his eyes at him. Aaron let out a frustrated breath as he pulls the paper on his desk getting us focused back. He'll talk to Nick later.
...
Sometime during the lecture Aaron heard someone stand up, Aaron would look over to see Nina with her hand raised. Although her expression was hard to read, her body language seemed to suggest she was worried about something. "Yes Nina?", Mrs. Ail would ask with a hint of concern in her voice although she would still smile as she asked. "There's a kid in the courtyard. He looks weak and Ill. Can I please go out there and take him to the nurse office? Please." Nina would reply seemed something laced in her tone. She was unsettled.
Mrs. Ail would continue the smile although it would shrink, "Of course, you're excused." Nina would seem to get her spark back so that she would head out of the class with a quick pace. Mrs. Ail would go back to teaching.
...
Aaron sits outside in the courtyard at one of the tables out there. His lunch on the table. He drank from his mug, a strawberry smoothie. Something is Mum made, honestly his favorite.. Aaron would feel something felt like it was solidifying the stomach, worry. Nina was nowhere she didn't show back up at class. Even if she was going to skip it she would have shown up at lunch at least.
Maybe even texted him, or more like reply. Something about this was killing him inside. Aaron quickly packs up his lunch finishing his smoothie. As he put the backpack back on his back, he left the courtyard with the fountain that filled with five people when he got there, now only two as he left. Aaron would pass by some familiar people in a courtyard as he walked down at. Although he wouldn't pay the mind right now he needed to find someone certain.
Nina. When he walked into the building he saw two familiar faces fighting Ekiti and Nick. Both are bloody and bruises seem to be forming on Ekiti this fight seems to have been going on for a while. Aaron would stopping is place. This wasn't something new, but sure was hell pissing him off. The moment they fist hit one another's
Aaron would readjusted glasses as he looked back at them and yelled, "HEY! KNOCK IT THE FUCK OFF!"
As soon as Ekiti saw him she would deflate slightly running away. He found almost a little bad he wasn't going to yell at her, knowing her she was just defending herself even if it wasn't a physical fight beforehand just words. There was still someone standing. Nick stood there looking at him attempting to look expressionless. Aaron before approaching him takes a breath in and out.
Before Aaron could approach or speak. Nick spoke up first, "What do you want?" Nick's annoyance was clear in his tone. Aaron would hold his arms up to his chest, his left hand gripping his right wrist. "I don't know Nick Miller. Last time I checked you and I had a little chat about how you shouldn't be getting any more spats.", Aaron would do as best to keep his tone even.
Nick would slightly chuckle, "Why the hell not?" Aaron felt very annoyed at this, not only did he have his growing pain in his gut from worrying about Nina. Now we have to deal with Nick shit right now, I mean he could walk away. He can't do that though, even if he really wanted to. Maybe that's why he can stop himself from yelling, "BECAUSE-"
Aaron would catch his breath holding it in till Aaron released it. "Because at this point you're going to get suspended or at worse expelled!" Nick seems to drop his attempt at an emotionless expression, at least he has some sense left in him if his expression meant anything. His eyebrow furrows and his lip slightly quiver, although Nick seems to bite his lip and tries to stop it. Aaron then had an idea, Aaron personally didn't have any bandages left in his bag.
He needed to buy some more since he used to rest up on himself, but that aside. The nurse office was the last place Nina was going to and Nick clearly needed a nurse. So why not kill two birds with one stone, "I'm going to take you to the nurse before one of the teachers catches us. Let's go Miller." Aaron would turn around as he would begin to head towards where the nurse office would be, behind him he could hear next footsteps they were pretty recognizable since he wore army boots. As a walk through the courtyard to get to the nurse office Aaron will realize how empty it is now. There were three people here before?
They probably headed to class already, they walk through the next one empty. Aaron could hear the waterfall as they passed into the next part of the building. After walking through the empty Halls. They would make it to the nurse office to be located near the front office. Before they can walk any closer they would stop, if it wasn't for the smell then maybe the smell they try to ignore.
While walking closer, the irony kind of smelled. The smell was very obvious from the site they saw. In front of them was a white hair boy whose chest had been ripped open his organs on the floor his intestines wrapped around his throat his eyes were rolled back. He was laying on his stomach or at least aside as if he was trying to crawl away. Just passed them near the office with the nurse Mrs. Smith or what was her.
Something about her was just wrong, she was covered in blood. Especially her hands which now seem to be claw-like, one of her hands were gripping something that seems to be a vocal cord? At least that's what he assumed after seeing what was under cowling against the wall under Mrs. Smith. A girl no he knows her, Breeze was clearly trying to scream, but from the look of her bloody throat that seems to have been ripped open. Breeze would lock eyes with him terrified, silently pleading for his help.
Instead Aaron would turn around grabbing Nick's wrist and would run away. He would do this till they made it to a closet and he would close it behind them. Aaron's legs would buckle underneath him as he heard the door lock behind him. Nick would sit down next to him and they would just sit there. Saying nothing, not even when they heard cries for help or screams of agony and not even when it all went quiet all over again.
