lately i’ve been replacing my “i’m sorry”s with “thank you”s, like instead of “sorry i’m late” i’ll say “thanks for waiting for me”, or instead of “sorry for being such a mess” i’ll say “thank you for loving me and caring about me unconditionally” and it’s not only shifted the way i think and feel about myself but also improved my relationships with others who now get to receive my gratitude instead of my negativity
This is some 2017 mood
In 2017, I wanna be the girl from Hotline Bling. Wearing less and going out more, glasses of champagne out on the dance floor, running out of pages in the passport. Her life sounds lit af
MARIE SKLODOWSKA CURIE: Our happy place
this is from a real diary by a 13-year-old girl in 1870. teenage girls are awesome and they’ve always been that way.
Read this - oh my goodness, this girl was wonderful.
@ anyone considering cutting their hair short: do it
66% of white women voted for Trump.
Their whiteness is more important than their womanhood to them.
White women want the power of white men.
White women cannot be trusted.
Not all white women. Not this white woman. To put us all into this category won’t help. I will continue to fight for all my friends.
actually, i think otherwise! to put us all into this category highlights our position of power over people whose voices were not heard at the polls yesterday.
it’s like…
rapists can’t be trusted, right? rapists are the absolute scum of the earth. and what’s worse is not knowing who is a rapist. someone in your circle of friends? someone you pass on the street? the person ahead of you in line at starbucks? so you close yourself off from someone who has that power over you. maybe just a little bit, but you’re aware of how you could be hurt. you make plans in your head about how you’d escape if you were attacked; you’re aware of the person behind you at the atm; you go quiet when they start talking about how they treated their dates.
and if a guy said “not all men are rapists!” you’d say, “yeah, but all men can be rapists.”
white women, honestly, cannot be trusted. we have endorsed and enabled slavery. we have joined the kkk and we have thrown rotten fruit at children who are walking to school. we have spit on black women who tried to fight for suffragette rights alongside us. we have formed and worked in organizations that sterilize black women without their knowledge. we turn into teachers who demonize little black boys for being too “loud” and “masculine” when they’re only being kids. we do little shitty things like try to touch black women like they’re exotic animals, and say that hispanic neighborhoods look “shady,” and tell women of color that there aren’t enough white heroines yet and that black women need to wait their turn to be important.
it makes sense that people of color would put up their barriers and make escape plans from us. with that history, when have we really been allies? when have we been anything but fair-weather friends who love beyonce but think “ghetto” black girls are trashy? how can they know which one of us is one of the nearly 70% of white women in america who voted for trump? which one of us in starbucks or passing by on the street would betray them - has already betrayed them?
there’s a lot that we white women have to do into order to prove ourselves to black women and black communities. it’s really hard to stand up against the status quo, especially when we’re very aware of what we could lost if we speak up. (there goes your job, your friends, your opportunities….) but if black women are living without those opportunities every day, then we have a responsibility to work until they have them and no one can take them away. it’s not up to people of color to give us leeway; it’s up to us to work with our fellow white women to help them understand change.
I cringed when I saw “not all white women”. Fucking seriously? Honey, that shit didn’t work when men tried it on us, don’t try it to our sisters of color.
I accept that women of color will be afraid/wary of me at first sight. I don’t blame them for that. Instead of being angry that they would class me with other white women, I’m just going to be that much more aware of times and places where I can use the privilege of my skin color to try and make them safer. Even if the next one that sees me is still afraid.
Why? Because, in that situation, MY FEELINGS AREN‘T IMPORTANT. It’s not about ME. It’s not about YOU, fellow white woman who was so insulted to be grouped with those white women. No, I didn’t vote for Trump. But even if I walked around wearing a shirt that claimed otherwise all the time, women of color cannot look at me and know for sure that I’m not one of those white women.
If women of color are fearful of me as a white person (who passes as female), then I understand that. The fear born of something real that they experienced or have witnessed other’s experiencing. Who am I to invalidate their feelings?
Sure, I’ll let them know I’ll try my hardest to be an ally. But at the same time I’m not going to try to convince them of this because I want to make myself feel better or convince myself I’m not part of the problem. As a white person, I benefit from that privilege and I’m prone to doing racist shit. I accept that, and I try my hardest to fix it. But I can’t escape it entirely and it’s asinine that white people think they can escape it.
We can and must do better. We must. Our sisters of color are in even more danger than us, and we have to stand WITH them, not next to them decrying the idea that WE’RE the good ones. I refuse to allow “not all men” to be a conversation in my hearing, and I refuse also, “not all white women.” No. Stop it. White women have harmed women of color. That is the point. We white women who don’t want to be lumped in with those white women need to amplify the voices of our sisters, not justify that we’re the good ones.
Woah, I’ve nearly to never seen a post like this
👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Keep it coming ladies.
yeast is the backbone of my two favourite things; bread and alcohol.
Don’t Tell Girls
“You’re too pretty to be single” Why is one person’s idea of ideal aestheticism A basis for a relationship status And furthermore What is so goddamn shameful or pathetic about being single anyway Is confidence and comfort in being by one’s self intimidating to you
“Swearing is unladylike” Bullshit Swears are only words And these words do not negate my intelligence, or passion, or define anything about me as a person or my character Men are never told not to swear Swear as much as you fucking want
“Your standards are too high! Just give him a chance” No You are invalidating a woman’s right to say no She doesn’t need to explain herself to anyone She doesn’t owe anyone anything Ever Everyone should have standards for themselves, and not feel like they need to lower them to please anyone Or be shamed for leading someone on when they know it would never work Because that happens too
“If you dress like that, boys will get the wrong idea” What idea might that be? That women might actually feel beautiful and confident in their own bodies? Heaven forbid Because obviously women’s bodies belong to everyone else except themselves
“Don’t frown - someone might be falling in love with your smile!” Why Is it my responsibility to always smile no matter how I feel I am a human being who is allowed to experience pain, or confusion, or sorrow, or boredom Men are never criticized for having “resting bitch face”
“Short hair makes you look like a boy!” This is assuming That there is one certain way for “boys” and “girls” to look Not so Some boys have long hair, some girls have short hair, some people who are both or neither also have hair Hair has no gender Humans are allowed to look different from each other and express themselves how they like Gender identity and gender expression are not the same
They aren’t “real” girls because they were born with a penis Anyone is a girl who says they are a girl Stop trying to undermine someone’s identity They know themselves better than you do Anatomy and identity are different, and sometimes separate Why are you so obsessed with other people’s genitals anyway
“You’re going to break a lot of hearts one day” Why would you ever Ever Say this to a girl A young, impressionable girl Breaking hearts is not a compliment, or a goal Coming from someone who has broken at least one From simply being honest and being myself It is a burden - a guilt that has been (mis)placed on my shoulders since childhood I never wanted to be labelled a heartbreaker simply for existing
“You don’t want kids? You’ll change your mind one day” No I won’t Even if I do, one day, that doesn’t make my opinion right now any less valid or deserving of respect Stop disbelieving people about their own life choices Also, having children is not a necessary milestone for a successful or fulfilling life
“Don’t have sex before marriage - boys really want a virginal girl” Sure they do And are boys ever held to that same expectation To stay virgins until marriage? Because as women are shamed for “impurity,” boys are applauded for “experience” I love the smell of double standards in the morning
“You shouldn’t wear so much makeup” The natural look is great The makeup look is great The anything you feel like doing or not doing to your own face look is great Let people do whatever they want to their own bodies Whatever makes them feel good Why do you care
“Selfies are just for attention” Maybe Maybe not What’s so wrong about liking attention What’s so wrong about feeling beautiful and confident in your own skin And wanting to share that feeling with others We were taught for so long to hate our bodies What is so threatening about finally loving them
“Cat-calling is flattering! Learn how to accept a compliment!” “I like your hair” is a compliment “You’re a really talented writer” is a compliment The gross, vulgar things that men shout at women they don’t know on the street Are not compliments They are harassment - meant to imply ownership and dominance and even violence Compliments should not make people fear for their lives walking home Compliments should not actually get people killed

harry potter rated by how often harry bathes
philosopher's stone: no baths/showers. mentions a cozy fire feeling like a hot bath so must have bathed at least once in his life. wipes out a troll in the bathroom so that's something. 2/10.
chamber of secrets: the dursleys let him out to use the bathroom twice a day, we can assume he cleanses occasionally here. spends most of the book in a bathroom doing many things except bathing. 5/10.
prisoner of azkaban: no baths. a filthy year for the young wizard. 0/10.
goblet of fire: one of the tents at the quidditch world cup has a birdbath. perhaps harry bathed in that but it isn't specified. has a bath! a bubble bath! an important occasion. 9/10.
order of the phoenix: possibly bathes at the dursleys. droplets of grawp's blood are said to shower upon him. probably the closest he came to bathing that year. 4/10.
half blood prince: no baths. poor ginny. 0/10.
deathly hallows: sits on the edge of a bath. probably doesn't know what it's for. 1/10.
harry potter books rated by the mention of swans
philosophers stone: no mentions. 0/10
chamber of secrets: fawkes is described as the size of a swan. a heart stopping moment. 8/10.
prisoner of azkaban: no mentions. 0/10.
goblet of fire: fawkes again mentioned as the size of a swan. just as exciting as the last time. 8/10.
order of the phoenix: fawkes once more mentioned as the size of a swan. a happy occasion as always. cho's patronus is a swan. a thrilling and heart warming moment. 10/10.
half blood prince: no mentions. disgusting of a book this size. 0/10.
deathly hallows: when neville opens the portrait of ariana the portrait is said to have 'swang open'. When the only mention of a swan is inside another word you know it's a bad read. 1/10.
