This booklet was a project for Graphic Design II where we had to provide a set of instructions in a clear, useful manner. I chose to do "How to Bake Cupcakes" and made a 5 x 7in booklet. I'm very pleased with how my project turned out overall, and I enjoyed creating it.
This was a fake weather report for Type II, where we had to pick four cities and list the weather for a weekend. It was difficult deciding how to organize my information but once I picked my organization methods, it was very interesting putting my whole video together. It was a really good way to help me with my After Effects skills.
This project was for "The Kitchen of Meaning" project. Each student chose a word and had to represent the word in our poster design. My word, nascent, means "just beginning to exist" or "just showing signs of future potential." At first, I had trouble deciding which meaning I was trying to convey in my design, but eventually I decided on displaying an idea as being nascent, which I represented in my tree branches that are beginning to bloom. Overall, I am very happy with my design.
This is a practice video that we had to create for Type II. At first I thought it would be simple, but it really helped me learn more about After Effects and the kinds of things that were possible to do with it.
This video was for Image Methodology, where we had to pick a scientific process and depict it in a video. I chose to do decomposition, and represented it with a lego tower that was being picked apart and taken down by various members of a family.
This was the third and final map, called the Cognitive Map, which maps our feelings, thoughts and other senses. This was one of my favorites and I had a lot of fun making this map. I had originally had a very different design, but in the end chose this one because of it's readability.
This was the second map in the series of maps called the Perceptual Map. It was one of my favorites to create, as it mapped my senses along my journey to class. I had a lot of fun with this one, especially in creating my symbols. It was a challenge to create symbols that not only made sense to me, but to the viewer, and I think I did accomplish that in the end.
This was the first part of a three series map project for Graphic Design I. This first map is called an 'artifact map' and is supposed to consist of purely your journey from point a to b. I liked this map because it was simple and easy to read, but it did challenege me to portray a realistic scene.
These were the final exercises for Image Methodology, in which we had to mimic pop art. This was my favorite exercise because I love Andy Warhol and I really tried to make each of my compositions reflect something that he had done before. I think that they challenged me to actually create a composition that not only was interesting to look at, but that also looked cohesive.
This project was for Image Methodology, where we had to create a typeface from totally different materials. I chose to work with peach rings, and I'm pretty satisfied with my final poster. The peach rings were harder to work with than I originally thought though. I thought they would bend and conform to whatever shape I put them into but they didn't. They stayed in their circular form and it was only after I started ripping them apart that I finally got to mold them the way I wanted.
This project was a long process, but worth it. I chose one of my favorite artists, Bob Dylan, to portray. The project, for Graphic Design I, was to chose a noun to create symbols that represented aspects about the noun. My three aspects of Bob Dylan were his music, politics, and his looks. I'm very pleased with how this turned out.
These were the second exercise for Image Methodology. The idea was to mimic constructivism in our compositions. I really enjoyed doing these because I like working within restrictions, especially when they are something as rigid as the characteristics of constructivism. I enjoyed this exercise a lot and I think my compositions really reflected some of the main ideas in constructivism.
This was my first project from Image Methodology. The point of the project was to focus on the elements of design, and create a series of six images each connected to each other through the elements of design. My elements were space, line, color, shape and texture.
This was the first assignment we had to do in my Graphic Design I class. We were only allowed to use the pen tool, which I hadn't used too often before. This really helped me to discover the possibilities of using the pen tool, and it showed me another option as opposed to the pencil tool which I previously favored.
These were the first in a series of exercises we did in Image Methodology. This exercise was to construct a composition that was handmade in response to a prompt you chose. I found this challenging to do at first, but when I had finished the first composition I started getting the hang of it. I was pleased with my compositions overall.
This specimen book was a really neat way for me to explore a single typeface and try to expand it to it's full potential. This was a project for Typography I, and it really helped me to learn the abilities and the ways to work with a single typeface.
