It’s blizzard season again in New York, once again, the first two months of the year never lets us down when it comes to unscheduled snowstorms. Two members of my household have spent the morning screaming with excitement, while the third member is too young to truly understand the commotion, but has still joined in with the screaming. The last one stepped out of the bedroom, gave some sort of complaint and then slammed the door shut.
In casa de St. Anderson, we now have an unscheduled snow day. If anyone wants to join us, we’re taking the kids sledging this afternoon in Central Park. I have informed the boys that we must have brought the snow with us from Canada and they’re convinced they have magic powers. I think my other one is considering booking a trip to Hawaii.

How did that snow day go? Because it sounds like utter chaos.

So, I am back in Los Angeles for a couple hours now and… I never thought I would say this but, I miss NY and my wife already. And Moriah too, and Lady. I never thought I would turn into this person that goes away for a few hours only, and is already missing her home. Maybe because this is the first time I really feel like I have a… Home? This is all new to me, to be honest, and even overwhelming. These feelings. I never felt them before so… I am very confused, and anxious and even… I don’t know, as I said, overwhelmed by all this. I was always traveling the world, hotel rooms used to be my house since I finished high school and left Lima, and now, the traveler girl that would grab her camera and a backpack and leave is now home sick? This is all so… Confusing and… I swear to God, I never felt this in my life. If anyone has some tricks and tips on how to deal with this weird feeling… I would love you forever.

I have no advice for the whole relationship and surviving thing, but it’s probably a good thing, right? That you miss stuff like that.

In the long term, yes, I suppose that would be the end goal. Or possibly the penultimate goal, since the final goal would be to remain right side up once you’re there again.
Yeah, for sure. I mean, I feel like sometimes stuff needs get flipped around, every once in a while but happening too much in one go makes anyone dizzy.

I guess moving from a big city to somewhere like Lima would be strange, purely because of the change of the pac, although it’s not like it’s difficult to get settled in here. Oh I think you’re definitely right, that makes a lot of sense.

I definitely don’t think I could do small town living. Visiting is hard enough for me. Like, I’m sure for some people settling in small towns works, but it’s not for me.
what did you dream about last?
This probably sounds really bad, but I actually ended up having a nightmare because of one of my student’s work... It wasn’t bad, it was actually really well done it was just unsettling for me emotionally and I guess that followed me home.
what is magic?
Magic is many things. It’s the universe giving back what you put out. It’s the manifestation of dreams and goals into real things. It’s the way some people are always on time, even when they should have been late. It’s the way little kids view the world. Magic is in the mundane, everyday things that don’t always seem like magic and it’s in the big extraordinary things too. Magic is life.

Not well, but yes, I can.
where do you feel the most safe?
In the comfort of my own home.

What is your most favorite part of your job?
As a professor, getting to share what I know and love with other people. As a photographer, getting to take pictures of kids. Like, they’re so much more expressive than adults and so much more interesting.
What is your least favorite part of your job?
As a professor, students who flirt to try and get what they want but don’t deserve. As a photographer, people who act like they know better than I do.
What is your best trait?
I’m really hardworking and I don’t give up.
What is your worst trait?
I’m super fucking messy. Like, I go clutter-blind really easily and so keeping things clean is hard as fuck, dude. I don’t mean to be and I try really hard, but I’m also distractible so they just play off each other.
Why did your last relationship end?
Same reason all the others did? I’m not great on the falling in love thing. Like, I’ll really like a person but love is weird and I don’t really think it’s ever happened for me.
