Katy Perry Breaks Her Own YouTube Record With ‘Bon Appetit’ Music Video Views
Katy Perry’s fans are apparently eager to eat up her new single, “Bon Appetit.” The pop singer’s latest music video broke her own record for most YouTube views in 24 hours.
“Bon Appetit” generated 16.8 million views in the first day of release, topping her previous record-holder, “Roar.” The music video also surpassed two of Perry’s other milestones: the most channel views in a single calendar day, with more than 25 million views on May 13, and the highest number of playlist adds in a single day, at 84,000 on May 12.
Katy Perry Joins ‘American Idol’ as Judge
Katy Perry has joined ABC’s “American Idol” reboot as a judge.
It’s official: Katy Perry is going to be an American Idol judge.ABC has signed the “Roar” and “Bon Appetit” singer for the revived franchise’s 16th season, which will debut next year. ABC made the announcement at its upfront presentation to advertisers in New York on Tuesday.
The casting is considered a very impressive hire; producers of singing competition shows have tried to land Perry for a judging position for years. It’s also arguably a necessary hire as ABC is facing some skepticism about bringing back the pioneering competition series after its cancellation by Fox just last year and needs a major star name to anchor the panel.
“I am honored and thrilled to be the first judge bringing back the American Idol tradition of making dreams come true for incredible talents with authentic personalities and real stories,” said Perry. “I’m always listening to new music, and love discovering diamonds in the rough – from mentoring young artists on my label, or highlighting new artists on my tours, I want to bring it back to the music.
More to come …

Katy Perry talks 'brave' new album and if there's a response to 'Bad Blood'
It has been nearly four years since Katy Perry released her last album, 2013’s Prism, so fans are more than ready for the pop superstar’s return. After her Prismatic World Tour and her 2015 Super Bowl halftime show performance, the pop star admits she needed a break and retreated to her home base in Santa Barbara, California. “The energy is just totally different — it’s not thirsty or desperate or clingy,” Perry tells EW. “It’s a really beautiful kind of Zen-like feeling place. I just went there to gather myself and I started making a record in June of last year.”
Perry says she wrote about 40 songs and has now whittled that number down to 15 for the album, the title of which is still unknown (fans have theorized that it’s Witness — Perry won’t say). “It’s really quite brave,” says Perry of her latest work. “Sonically, it’s fun and dance-y and dark and light. It’s all of these things. It definitely is a change.”
It’s also an album that reflects the changes in Perry’s own life and her maturation. “I left my 20s and I’ve gone to my 30s,” she says. “I’ve embraced. I’ve surrendered. I’ve healed some of my issues with my family, with my relationships. Today I’m sober but I don’t know about tomorrow! One day at a time, right? [Laughs] It’s all kind of beautiful. I built up Katy Perry and she was so fun. And I still am Katy Perry and I love her so much but, at the core, I’m Katheryn Hudson and I think that’s being revealed as I embrace who I really am.”
Katy Perry's Micro Teacup Poodle Makes Her National TV Debut in Citi's Double Cash Card Campaign
Nugget Perry, the adorable micro teacup poodle glued to Katy Perry’s hip, is about to become more than just the cute pup on the popstar’s Instagram. Continuing Citi’s Double Cash card “Means What It Says” campaign, Nugget stars alongside her mom in a witty commercial playing off of what we say in our lives versus what we actually mean.
For the canine’s national TV debut, Perry pampers Nugget in her custom doggy director’s chair as an assistant intrudes their personal moment. They share a hilariously honest conversation that ends in Perry stating, “It’s going to look like I’m listening but I’m actually just paying attention to Nugget.”
The clip featuring Nugget will make its national debut the week of May 22nd. “I’ve traveled from stage to stage with Katy but it’s time to take my solo career to the next level and ride my own wagging tail,” says Katy — I mean Nugget — in a press release. The micro teacup poodle also brings in Perry’s other pet, the trouble-making Butters, into the mix. “It finally puts me on the pedestal on which I belong and leaves my sister friend Butters in the dust.”
