BIOGRAPHY !
Model Océane Kinsinger was twenty two years old when she had her first child with her longtime partner Siti Lim. The two never married even though they were deeply in love. Everyone who met her said Océane was a beautiful and captivating. She gave birth to first child only three days after her own birthday. Kavita looked like her father and her mother was happy to have a healthy child. Unfortunately after two years of traveling with Kavita, Océane and Siti realized that it wasn't sustainable to travel with her. Kavita was sent to live with her aunt and uncle in Aurora Bay. Kavita spent her childhood at the beach and on Skype calls with her mom and dad, marking their location on the map she had on her wall. Her aunt and uncle were regular people—a private chef and a real estate agent, so despite the three of them living in her parent's Aurora Bay mansion, they felt like a regular family.
From a young age, Kavita grew up hearing people call her mother beautiful. Whenever she'd brag about what photoshoot her mom was doing, she'd always see the judgement on their faces. Kavita struggled to feel like she belonged to her family. Her aunt and uncle did what they could, but they didn't understand what it was like for Kavita. For the longest time, Kavita struggled to find something that was uniquely her own. Her mom had modeling, her father had photography, her aunt and uncle had their board games. But Kavi didn't care for any of it. She tried a few different options, yet nothing stuck. At eight, her mother suggested that she try dance and music. Kavi loved them both. While she loved ballet, she excelled in jazz, Bollywood, and hip-hop. With music, she instantly fell in love. From composition to writing lyrics, from drums to saxophone—there was nothing about music that Kavi didn't love.
When Kavita was ten, her aunt and uncle sat her down and told her that they were adopting a child her age. Kavita was happy to have someone her own age around, like a sister instead of a cousin. Two years after the adoption, Océane gave birth to her second child. This time she decided to take a break from her career. She and Siti moved back into their Aurora Bay house. By the time her younger brother was born, Kavita was in middle school and she didn't have anything in common with a toddler. She helped her parents, but mostly stuck to herself. It was odd having what was almost like two sets of parents around. With three children and four adults, there was always some sort of chaotic energy in the house. Kavita ignored it all, focusing her attention on school, dance, and music lesson. It was someone in her class that suggested she start posting videos on YouTube. Kavita was entirely thrilled by the idea and thus her channel was born.
She worked to make her channel the best she could make it with the support of her parents buying her best best cameras available at the time. It was a fun little side project where she mostly made videos singing, dancing, or on occasion talking about her life. Like a lot of kids out there trying to find their voices, Kavita didn't think her voice was anything special, though she still made her videos throughout high school. Most of the time her songs were covers of her favorite rock musicians, but senior year of high school, Kavita uploaded an acoustic song she wrote. What seemed like overnight, the song went viral. She'd known she wanted to be part of the music industry, but when she started getting calls from record producers that heard the acoustic song, she knew it was a big deal. Obviously she had the support of her family behind her. They let her choose the company she wanted to work for and let her be in charge of her own career with helpful advice.
The record label that Kavi signed with didn't tell her something. They hadn't been looking for an artist who wanted to write rock music, but they were looking for their next big pop artist. Kavita wanted to back out then, however she knew that they might blackball her from the industry and she didn't have any other way in, so she smiled and held her tongue. Kavita loved music, but her taste was different than the styles they were throwing at her. The label let her write her own music though and that was nice. She went from being Océane Kinsinger's daughter to a sensational new artist.
Kavita still pushed her own image though. She was always getting into trouble, finding some way to have fun. She was a mess for the PR team and yet she didn't care. Fame had never been her goal, playing music was and if she couldn't play the types of music she was interested in, then she would be like her idols pushing. Thankfully, Kavita was effortlessly cool. Journalist could rely on Kavita to always have some sort of quip during an interview. She was funny, unpredictable, and wild—but that was the best part about her reputation. Kavita was everything that her rock idols were and she loved it. But after five albums, Kavita felt like she was slowly crumbling away. Pop was never the type of music she wanted to make and she was exhausted with the record label pressuring her to not come out as nonbinary—because they didn't want her to damage her image—when she finally decided to step away as a solo artist. She promised her fans she'd be back at some point.
Kavi didn't immediately return to Aurora Bay after the announcement about her hiatus. They came out on social media and disappeared for a few months. When Kavi resurfaced in Los Angeles, they announced they were moving back to Aurora Bay and would be writing songs and drumming for a new grunge rock band, Empty Operation. Her mother was happy to have her home. Yet when Kavi returned, they bought their own place. Aurora Bay hadn't changed much since they'd left, but honestly Kavi kind of loved that about the place. Music made Kavi who they were and though she went on hiatus on her own terms, Kavita didn't have to remain away form the stage. In fact, the call to the stage was stronger than ever, this time with music she created and the sound she wanted. Kavita does not know where the future will take them, but she's ready to let the waves carry them wherever it plans on going.
Sola: wait wait wait
Sola: WHAT the fuck are you saying?
Sola: like i feel like i'm having a stroke and that might be on me but nothing you're saying is making sense rn
Kavi: Sorry! I forgot not everyone speaks Swedish shorthand.
Kavi: Do you want to go to Neptune tonight? I have reservations and my mom decided it was a better use of her time to go to Australia
"I actually hate pickles." Avery replied, her nose wrinkled up slightly, "But hey, more for everyone else?" She offered with a shrug. "How....do you fry butter though?"
"Really? Well to each their own, I guess. I kind of like, you know, the vinegar flavor or whatever. And dill. I love dill." Kavi laughed. "I think it's dough. I have no idea if they actually fry butter butter."
lucy grins. "okay..." she ponders on her first question, "what's your bands genre? what's the vibe?" she remembers kavi saying that they were a pop star, but she won't assume they planned to stay that way. "if i come to one of your concerts, what should i expect?"
"It's more punk than anything else. But we're also not trying to have it be one genre. We don't want to make ourselves feel like we've got to stick to one type of music." If they changed their ideas then that was something they'd explore as a group. "Probably a lot of people who think I'm going to play my pop songs. We haven't debuted yet."
lucy wished she could sing. not that she'd ever like performing, rather living out her childhood disney princess dream of singing to animals for fun. for now all renditions stayed in the shower where the acoustics did most of the work for her. "i'm i allowed to ask what that is, or is that hush hush?"
Kavi had loved music since they were younger. Music was a huge part of their life, from such a young age. Some people might consider her a nepo baby since she did have a famous mother, but Kavi did all of it on her own. "You can, but doesn't mean I'll answer." Kavi teased, but shook her head. "Nah, I'm kidding. It's a band."
⸻ ❛ A leaf?! See, that's what I mean… The majority of people would pass it without a second thought, and you go for it, and I frankly love it. ❜ She says with a grin. ❛ This is the best part about us artists, inspirational people don't need to wait or pass through a traumatic situation to make it art, it is how the perceives and view the world in a different lenses. ❜ And when the subject shifted to the music industry… ❛ Unfortunately, the industry seems to forget that a person is making music and not the robots. ❜ She sighs ruefully, thinking of it. A mild smile crept on her face at their denial. ❛ Okay, it's settled then. Let's cook something bombastic together in the collab, and creative meltdowns! ❜
"I try," she smiles. Seeing beauty in anything was part of the reason that she had been a successful in her solo career. But Kavi knew that they weren't special for it. Plenty of people were good at writing songs and didn't have their own solo career. "Exactly. I'm glad that some people get it." Even if it was a silly thing to complain about. "Alright, I'll text you when I'm free. Although that's literally all the time for the most part."
"You're honestly right. My sister has three cats. They're adorable but they little stinkers." Sterling laughed softly. "Oh my goodness, you're busy. What do you make on Etsy? I used to sell jewelry I made at Seaglass Boutique."
"Cats are something else." She really loved her cats. "I've always wanted to be one of those people that has like a genuinely ugly dog. You know like one that everyone thinks looks like a demon or something but you as the dog parent find them the cutest." Kavi didn't need another pet right now. "Oh, uh, really just intention spells. Like not really a big deal or whatever." They shrugged.
⸻ ❛ I mean, sometimes it's like… Heartbreak? Content. Having a coffee? Content… Talking to awkward strangers? Content. A sneeze? Content. ❜ She laughs softly. ❛ It is tiring and exhausting when every moment seems like raw material for a new song. ❜ A small smile appeared on her plush lips. ❛ Honestly? Good. People underestimate the power of resting. Like, we all thinking we are wasting our time, but when the least expected, this resting period is enough to create good content later. ❜ She muses. ❛ You sounded like the kind of person who secretly loves a structure, huh?! You're just in denial about it.❜ Her grey-bluish eyes sparkle in amusement while look at them. ❛ Perfect, we have a deal then. It can be my studio, yours, whatever works for you. We can figure out the details later, I think, it'll be fun. New location, new people…New perspectives, no expectations. We both are suffering at some point; we shall, as well, suffer together, and make something good out of it. ❜
"I love that though. It's like anything or anyone can be a muse. I once wrote a song about a leaf blowing across the street. As like a metaphor for someone blowing into your life and out of it only moments later." Kavi wrote so many songs that sometimes she really didn't know what subjects she was going to write about when she started writing. "I love resting. I think that really helps people. My studio didn't agree with that, but they're also not the best at caring about my needs sometimes." They liked to parade them around like she was someone superhuman, which they were close, but not a superhuman. "Now don't go around accusing me of liking structure. I'm totally not that person." Okay, maybe she did like a structure sometimes. "I'd love that. You and Nari are totally saving me. Yes, let us suffer together."
"Kavi, do not scare me at any time or place or I will make sure there is come uppence," The fake vigor is clearly that- fake. Maya is a louder person only when there's excitement. Her anger is weak and shrill at best, so there's not even a semblance of believability to the words. "A surprise is in order for the person with famous mom problems. Can do!" Her hands moved quick enough, but this wasn't instant. There's a look of concentration on her face all the same, little bit of her tongue sticking out. "Does your mom put pressure on you to be some sort of way with her around?"
"Okay, well. I'll keep that in mind. And for the record, I'm not easily scared so if you try, I doubt you'll be able scare me ever." Kavi was sure of this fact about herself. They snorted at the comment. Sometimes it was annoying that her mom was famous because they couldn't go anywhere in public. Kavi didn't hang out with her that often because of it. Mostly they stayed at home or went to the spa together. "I love a good surprise," they grinned. "No, not really. Ma knows I'm not the same as her. She doesn't like force me to go hang out with people just because she likes them. Which is nice, I think."
"Exactly! Sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night with an idea, write it down in my notes app, and wake up to see it is nothing but gibberish." Nari laughed. "So I'm in the same boat for sure."
"Well, maybe the notes app." Nari joked as a chuckle escaped her lips. "I guess we could start with the kind of vibe we're going for, maybe."
"More than half the time it's gibberish. I don't understand how that's statistically possible." Majority of the songs that she wrote did eventually come from that list, but it took like at least five to seven business days to decipher what she meant. "
"Everyone's process is different. Do you usually start with lyrics? Sometimes I do." Kavi nodded. "Maybe a summertime vibe? Since we're closer to summer than fall? I don't know."
lucy could only imagine what it was like growing up in the spotlight like that, only knowing fame. any then finally your frontal cortex develops and suddenly it doesn't feel right anymore. "as long as you're happy with the decision to quit, personally i think that's all that matters."
The good thing about her childhood was that her aunt and uncle raised her for the most part. Kavi didn't have the fame held over her head other than when people would talk about her mom. "It's not really quitting per say. I've got a new project. I think for now I'm done with a solo career."
⸻ ❛ And that is what I call the creativity curse. ❜ She smirks softly, flipping her golden hair with the back of her hand. ❛ I think, the fact you're constantly living instead of produce it is a good thing, because people seems to forget how creativity works nowadays. Besides, I don't think anyone can pour an empty cup forever… And the fact you're doing "nothing" means you're silently collecting experience, have you ever thought that way?! ❜ She inquired.
Upon the mentions of booking and performances… ❛ Maybe that's part of the problem, that there is no shaping around it. Like no pressure exactly, but the structure. ❜ She muses. ❛ And you know for the future, when it is all over for you, if you're interested, maybe we could do something together. What do you say? ❜
"I think that it's also difficult to live these days without constantly thinking about song writing. I'm always thinking about spinning a situation into an idea and I don't think that's always healthy." Sometimes that was also a problem. "No, I mean I literally haven't done anything. I've been enjoying the break too much. I mean sure I travelled a bit at first, to places I'd been before. I truly have been sitting at home resting and talking to my new bandmates." Sure, that was probably something.
"I think I'm one of those people that really enjoys structure as much as I pretend to hate it. Without a deadline I can't get anything done." They did love a good deadline. "I'd love to collab! Just let me know when and where!"
"One hundred percent in agreement with you. Even if that means I'm likely signing up for someone, or you, scaring the living daylights out of me one day." Maya had her own issues with her family, baggage that could fill one of those airport conveyer belt things. "That seems like quite the dynamic," Words dripping with sarcasm. Hands worked as the words registered and the smile on Maya's face reappeared, "Perfect. A flower crown for Kavi. Preference on color or anything like that?"
"Scaring people is a lot of fun, even if its yourself." Kavi was totally one of those people that didn't like to do the same thing every day. She might be somewhat of a creature of habit with her likes and dislikes, but she also loved to be spontaneous too. And besides, she wanted a flower crown. Maya totally looked adorable with her. "What can I say, having a famous mother does have drawbacks." Her mom was a lot and Kavi had always understood their relationship even if that had taken a long time to understand. "Hmm. No, I think a surprise is in order!"
