I started my reading with comics like the Panchatantra and others but not until i read Enid Blyton's Famous Five did i realise my love for reading ! :) I am sure Enid Blyton was one of those authors who has inspired the childhood of every living person in the world. Her stories have always taken me into this adventurous world that was filled with fantasy and happiness. I confess i have not read all her books but The Secret Seven, The Wishing Chair, Amelia Jane, The Book of Fairies and Brownies, The Magic Faraway Tree, The Five Find-Outers, The Adventure Series are some of the books that i really enjoyed reading. I still do pick these books and read them. But no matter how many times i read it they do not fail to bring my childhood back. Enid Blyton's writing style excels as usual in the series and the adventures she comes up with is simply brilliant. The books keep you engrossed until the end of the story and the suspense is well kept till the end. Famous Five is this brilliant book. The five who are George, Dick, Julian, Anne and Tim the dog, stumble upon mysteries and adventures. Reading them would make you wonder why could your childhood have not been so much fun. George and Tim are my favourite characters. George is such a tom-boy but she is the bravest of them all. Tim is the dog she rescues and the bond that they share is something that i can never forget. When Tim is in danger, George is there and it is vice-versa, which just makes their relationship magical. Julian is the eldest and of course a very responsible kid too. Really love his determination and always looks out for his kid sister Anne. Now Dick is the same age as George and is the most funniest. Anne is the youngest and like to cook, clean and loves her siblings dearly. They make a good team even if they have their little fights. All their adventures take place after they come back from school and get together for their holidays. The book about the Secret Seven written by Enid Blyton is one of my all time favourite book. Children get together to form a secret society and solve mysteries happening in their neighborhood. Very few kids can come up with such ideas and actually solve such dangerous cases. Congrats to Enid Blyton for coming up with such an idea :) :). Now Peter, Janet, Jack, Pam , George, Colin and Barbara are kids aged 10-11.They come up with idea of a secret society and initially plan fun filled games and activities that children think of doing everyday. But then they start looking for mysteries and end up actually being in one. :P . They organise meetings in Peter's old garden shed, have secret passwords and badges. The kids also get aided by Scamper, Peter and Janet's dog (a brilliant dog though). Next i read all her stories about magic and fun. The Magic Faraway tree series, The Wishing Chair series, Amelia Jane and all her other books on fairies, elves, brownies, books that dwell on magic. Each had its own share of fun, but at the same time taught a child what is right and wrong. I wonder how her mind had all these brilliant ideas. For example up the Faraway Tree, each week there will be different land like the Land of Birthdays, Land of Tea Parties, Land of Spells, other nice, fun and might also have horrid lands. How did she get ideas for each of these lands is something i will always be amazed by. Why were children so interested in reading these novels? My opinion is that her writing was simple and it was what every child imagined her/his childhood to be. Each and every story has something that a child can connect with. The fantasies and stories seem so real, they come to life when you read them. They are evergreen and she cannot be replaced by another author who is loved by children of many decades that have gone and are yet to come.
