more state Pride 😌
For your Maryland flag consideration: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1584053623/maryland-pride-house-and-garden-flag
Coincidentally I just retired this flag from my front porch today after a year of service.
Had a spare progress pride flag ready to go, and when that one wears out I will put out the six color rainbow flag I have.

From simple storm drain traps to swimming robots, “trash traps” are capturing litter before it can wash into streams, rivers and oceans.
Over the last nine years global trash trap projects have collected at least six million pounds of litter and likely significantly more than that since not all trash-trapping projects report to centralized organizations. These can be everything from low tech floating barriers to underwater trash-hunting robots or giant wheels like Mr. Trash Wheel and his companions.
In addition to removing trash, these traps also provide useful data on what type of litter is ending up in waterways so efforts to stop it can be more targeted. Or they can help determine how well local laws banning certain practices or types of plastic are working.

she was dead silent on the drive home, but that was okay. sometimes, after band practice, she was just out of words. it was a short drive to her house. the only part where it actually felt weird was after i pulled up her parent’s driveway.
after that, the silence stretched so far it smeared and left a weird residue. she kept looking at the car door like she wanted to leave, so i looked at the door too, then she looked at me, and i looked at her, and my first thought was that she was going to tell me that the door was stuck. i was used to that car always doing some damn thing. it was the car me and all my siblings had learned to drive in, and it was really beat to hell. there were dents all over the body, which we’d unsuccessfully tried fixing up with spackle. it had looked nice for maybe a week, but then the sun wrecked it - the spackle cracked up like the mud on the bottom of a dry riverbed and turned a sort of off yellow-white that made the car looked like it had been molded out of chicken shit. it also had a bullet hole it through the cabin that whistled like a toothless old man whenever the car went above 40, so loud it could drown out the radio, and a cabin that smelled so strongly of bugspray that even the arizona summer we drove everywhere we could with the windows down.
(if you have kids one day, you will maybe, possibly, begin to understand how much i loved that car.)
anyway, i was thinking about what else could possibly be wrong with the chickenshitmobile, and she just kept looking at me, and then i wondered if there was something on my face, and she just kept looking at me, and then the penny dropped and i realized she was trying to work up the nerve to break up with me.
Shew good time to cross my dash again after some time seeing this read—the night my son starts his first job and I get to take and pick him up, which is the night after my daughter’s senior awards night, and three nights after my eldest graduated w her Associates from our bitchn local community college
Step momming is the fuckn hardest
But this sort of assures me we’re doing ok

For anybody not caught up: Tennessee just passed a new map that pretty much makes it so black neighborhoods have no power in local votes. Two things about this. While protestors were chanting "No Jim Crow", white Tennessee lawmakers were caught laughing on video. On top of this, Representative Justin Pearson and his brother KeShaun Pearson were arrested for trying to give their takes on the matter (which is not only their legal right but literally his job). If you give a shit about black people, help fight this. We can't allow a return to Jim Crow.

Consciousness is not separate from the physical world — our “soul” is of the same nature as our body and any other phenomenon of the world.
If we do not fall into the error of dualism upfront, we can safely speak of soul and emotions just as we speak of a kitchen table, even if the table is also a collection of atoms. It is time to give up the pernicious dualism introduced by the debate on consciousness and embrace the reality that our soul, or our spiritual life, is consistent with our fundamental physics. The reason why this picture is more credible than any dualism is not that “science explains everything” — it doesn’t — or because “physics explains everything” — it does so even less. It is because of the hundreds of years of astonishing and unexpected success of the sciences that have convincingly shown that apparent metaphysical gaps are never such. Earth is not metaphysically different from the heavens, living beings are not metaphysically different from inanimate matter, humans are not metaphysically different from other animals. The soul is not metaphysically different from the body. We are all parts of nature, like anything else in this sweet world.

This debate in the philosophy of mind will no doubt continue, but I think Rovelli basically gets it right (or so says the non-expert me).
