After looking back at the images I have shot on this second shoot for my final major project I can see that from refinement there is only 2 images that are good enough to consider choosing for my book. To make sure by the end of my shoots, I have the images that I want, I am going to change to a different model who is more natural in front of the camera and is willing to do more movements and poses.

This is my contact sheet for the first of my final shoots, I have shot a wide range of movements and stills which will give me a broader choice when deciding on the images that I want to be in my book. From this contact sheet I am going to select the images that I think will work best alongside each other in my final book and also choose between which ones shows the style of dance the best.

Here is the before and after of one of my images that I have photoshopped. To get my original image to look like the final I first used the clone stamp tool to clone the background making sure I kept the different tones within the original background. Cloning the background has also meant that the image looks cleaner as the space around the dancer has been simplified making you focus more on the dancer and their pose/posture. I have also lightened the image slightly by adding more exposure but still keeping the details by adding more contrast to the image. I think the way that I have edited the images from my first final shoot have worked well, therefore I will be using the same photoshop techniques in my next shoot to keep the images consistent so they all work well alongside one another when presented in a photo book.
FMP first final shoot - 20/04/15
After all my research I have done a test shoot of a few different genres to get an idea of what lighting I will be using and the outfits that I will be using in my final shoots. From my test shoot I know that I will be using a white background to allow the outfits to be the main focal point, I will also be using 2 soft boxes at either side of the model to create a clean and classic look. I used this same sort of equipment as what I will be using in my final shoot but unfortunately due to one light being broken the look was not the same as I was hoping, also using the shoot through umbrella meant that some of the orange light spilled through to the subject giving it an orange tone to the images. After my test shoot, I have decided to shoot in a proper photography studio rather than using the equipment at home so then I am able to create the exact look that I want and I know that if I have a problem with equipment then there is always back-up equipment.
Once seeing the results of my test shoot, I then went on to shoot in a studio with a different model. I also decided to use different outfits to photograph the genres that I had not already. I found that the outfits fitted the styles of dancing well and the movement within the outfits benefited the photos as it made them seem more realistic and captured in the moment as they moved with the dancer. Also shooting the photos in the studio has meant that I haven’t had to worry about keeping the dancer within the size of the background as I had more of an area to work with and due to the room being bigger has also meant that I could shoot from further away allowing the dancer to move more and do more elaborate jumps and poses. The colours of the outfits have also worked better in my second shoot as they are darker than my first shoot which has meant that the outfits don’t blend into the background as much as the first outfit in the first shoot allowing more definition and attention to go to the dancer and their movement.
I have organised another shoot to reshoot the first set of outfits and dance genres in a studio to try and get them looking the same as my second shoot so the lighting is consistent throughout all the styles, this means that when I pull together my photos to create my book then they look like they are all shot at the same time. I will also be reshooting the photos for my front cover as after setting up to shoot my original idea I decided the setup looked too bare and the outfits were falling off the hangers so I have decided to shoot a close up of one of the more detailed outfits.

FMP UNIT 6 - Timeline, 26/03/15
I have printed off a calendar for march, april and may to record and plan when I am going to be doing certain things for this project which will help me to focus more on day to day jobs rather than leaving things till last minute. Also it helps me to know what parts I have left to do on the project and the areas that I haven’t been able to complete on time.
FMP UNIT 6 - test shoot, 23/03/15
For this shoot I chose 3 genres to focus on, I have experimented with a few different positions so see how well they work and also with the lighting as certain lighting complements each outfit better. From this I know what outfits I am going to use for my final shoot and that I am definately going to shoot in a photography studio rather than dance studio.
FMP UNIT 6 - Bibliography, 19/03/15
I have used some of my resources from my essay and updated my bibliography to include resources from both Nicola Selby and Liza Voll, this shows where I have found the information for my artist research.
