god iām not even through one episode of paranormal home inspectors and it rules, this lady thought she was being haunted by the wails of the restless dead but she was just listening to raccoons fuck in her attic
psychic: these are hieroglyphics⦠the spirits are trying to communicateā¦
home inspector: you put new paint over old paint and now the old paint is bleeding through, thatās why youāre not supposed to do that
homeowner: my daughterās room is always cold⦠cold like the deadā¦
home inspector: you put furniture on top of her heating vent
business owner: i got locked in the bathroom even though the door has no lock
home inspector: it has a lock. the lock is right there. on the knob.
Fun fact a scientist who is very not spiritual or superstitious began seeing corner eye hallucinations and feeling intense fear and a presence in his lab around the same time that everyone else in the building was suddenly reporting it haunted.
Determined, he found that the āhauntingsā stopped when the industrial air conditioning unit, that had just recently been installed, was turned off. Weāve found that measurable micro vibrations in a structure cause immense fear, and a feeling of a presence and corner eye hallucinations ā just like when you watch a scary movie alone at night and you see things move in the corner of your eye or are afraid to go in the cellar because youāre convinced someoneās in there.
Why?
Because many members of our species built homes in and around cliffs and caves for tens of thousands of years. And itās likely that these certain shaky vibrations give us intense fear and a need to move far away because that would have saved our lives if the cave were collapsing or unstable.
Youāll notice itās always falling apart, dilapidated homes that are āhauntedā - or very very old restored homes. These places might just be slightly structurally unsound. Thatās all.
Thatās infrasound, sounds that are below 20hz, or the limit of normal human hearing. Things that produce infrasound in nature include severe weather, earthquakes, volcanoes, tigers, alligators, rhinoceros; also known as things that can kill people. We developed an evolutionary sense of dread when our brains perceive sounds we cannot hear. The vibrations from infrasound can also vibrate the eye causing visual hallucinations.Ā
You know what also causes infrasound? A LOT of machines, especially large industrial ones. Thereās a reason haunted house stories started popping up in post industrialization. That scientist was Vic Tandy and he wrote about it in a the paper Ghosts in the Machines
āVic Tandy, experimental officer and part-time lecturer in the school of international studies and law at Coventry University, along with Dr. Tony Lawrence of the Universityās psychology department, wrote in 1998 a paper called āGhosts in the Machineā for the Journal of the Society for Psychical Research. Their research suggested that an infrasonic signal of 19 Hz might be responsible for some ghost sightings. Tandy was working late one night alone in a supposedly haunted laboratory at Warwick, when he felt very anxious and could detect a grey blob out of the corner of his eye. When Tandy turned to face the grey blob, there was nothing. The following day, Tandy was working on his fencing foil, with the handle held in a vice. Although there was nothing touching it, the blade started to vibrate wildly. Further investigation led Tandy to discover that the extractor fan in the lab was emitting a frequency of 18.98 Hz, very close to the resonant frequency of the eye given as 18 Hz by NASA. This, Tandy conjectured, was why he had seen a ghostly figureāit was, he believed, an optical illusion caused by his eyeballs resonating. The room was exactly half a wavelength in length, and the desk was in the centre, thus causing a standing wave which caused the vibration of the foil.ā
@lemonsharks !!!!!!
ITāS THE ACTUAL BEST!!!!
also while weāre here itās on Amazon prime now
i need to see this. finally a show that shuts down all those annoyingĀ āoh no a ghostā reactions to specs of dust and other shit.Ā Ā
DEADASS!!!
Aaaaand they will disbar a lawyer QUICK but these cops get paid vacation.
All Iām saying is you need a masterās to be a social worker, but you can be a cop with a high school diploma. Like, on what fucking planet do that make sense?
Cops donāt have to know the law.
There was a supreme court decision recently that a cop is not falsely detaining someone if theyāre doing something the cop reasonably believes is against the law, even if itās actually legal. I think the specific case was about someone driving with a broken taillight in a state where a car is street-legal so long as at least one of its taillights works.
Meanwhile, as a civilian, ignorance of the law is not a defense.
Cops are not required to know the laws they enforce. You are required to know every law you might conceivably break. But then, of course, if you backtalk a cop because you have better knowledge of the law than they do, and they respond violently, good luck winning that.
Iām sorry but not really, what the fuck?
Femme bi women married to men still have stories about queerness to tell that are worth hearing.
i dont wanna discourse on main but please dont call bi women femme
Kiss my ass and then fuck ALL THE WAY off.
okay thanks for being aggressive when i literally said in the tags that i agree with what youreĀ saying its just the fact that you called bi womenĀ āfemmeā that i take issue with.
femme and butch are both historically lesbian terms that are used very specifically for lesbians. a femme can ONLY be a lesbian bc it is an identity specifically abt subverting gender roles assigned to by men and performing femininity for other women, completely rejecting men. it can only be for lesbians bc its abt being attracted to only women.Ā
if a lesbian is telling you that something is a lesbian specific term, maybe hear them out before completely rejecting what they are saying
I have heard this argument before. I have readĀ the tedious history narratives that look at communities of queer women in the 1950s who used terms likeĀ ābutchā andĀ āfemmeā and acknowledged that yes, many of those women are what we would call bisexual today, but then somehow decided that⦠bisexual women were not allowed to inherit that legacy. That bisexuals should get disinherited despite having been there from the beginning.
I have also seen those posts say that biphobia is a myth, and that lesbians who reject bi women for being bi are aĀ ālesbophobic mythā. The reality is, the elimination of bisexuals from our own narratives, the myth that you can source 1950s slang in a pure lesbian-only, never-looked-at-a-man mythic past, goes hand in handĀ with modern biphobia.
This post was written specifically counterĀ to the concept thatĀ āfemmeā is a lesbian-only word.
If you want a pure lesbian term that has only ever been used by someone who is never attracted to men, I suggest you go plant a flag in a term that ISNāT used my MLM. BecauseĀ āfemmeā has been used by gay men to describe themselves and each otherĀ for decades.Ā
It isnāt just innocentĀ āWe want our own vocabulary!ā when youāre claiming one of the most common adjectives used for gender presentation in the English language, and when you cite a specific provenance for it, it is a provenance that bisexual women are equally entitled to inherit from.
Get your own damn word. Bisexual women have always used this one.
BI WOMEN CAN BE BUTCH AND FEMME 2019
āGET YOUR OWN DAMN WORD. BISEXUAL WOMEN HAVE ALWAYS USED THIS ONE.ā
This didnāt even mention that femme was originally applied to married women who frequented lesbian dives and bars. Femme has meant ābiā for much longer than itās been a ālesbian exclusiveā term. Ya wanna know the only lesbian exclusive term? Itās ālesbianā.
I donāt understand how young members of the queer community just donāt research queer history??? Like so many donāt know Pride is the anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, let alone the complexity of queer identities and how so many groups were lumped together. Like trans women and cross dressing gay men were considered one and the same for a damn long time. Bisexual and lesbian women were considered the same. Weāre all members of the same community and we are oppressed and discriminated against and othered in so many ways. Maybe Iām just an old fogey and these young kids need to get off my lawn⦠but all these youngins with their āq slurā and their āitās lesbiphobia that we donāt we get a separate exclusive history.ā The world doesnāt exist in a bubble and I beg these kids to just read up on queer history in books (or online JStor articles) instead of acting like Tumblr TERF rhetoric is the be all and end all of queer studies.
āitās just really hard to get it right! these new pronouns are hard for me to deal with, too!ā
Kinda ironic coming from Tan āIāve never met a trans person beforeā France tbh #sureTan
Really, it was Tan and Antoni who hadnāt had a whole lot of experience with transgender individuals. I really wish this one line would have made it into the show, because itās something I say to every person I interact with who says āyouāre the first trans person Iāve met.ā I always come back with, āthat you know of.ā And then I always explain that I may be the first openly trans person theyāve met, but weāre everywhereā¦I wish that had made it in there, because I know Tan has gotten a lot of flack. I felt like that entire week, I spent it with my community, with my brothers. I feel like Iām a part of this really beautiful thing.
I think itās just how editing made it come out. That conversation Tan and I had was about two hours on the couch. We talked about pronouns, we talked about the different transitions that trans men and trans women can go through, we talked about non-binary and genderqueer individuals, and people of color in my community who are trans and nonbinary and the additional difficulties they face. We also talked about Russia and Jamaica and how trans people that live in those countries have refugee programs directed to them, because they could get murdered and dragged in the streets. We got really, really deep.
Thereās a distinct cut in that conversation with Tan and I where heās very composed ā heās really composed all the time ā and then after I laid some really deep knowledge on him, he was crying. He did come from a very sheltered upbringing and his getting into the queer community basically started with this show. So I donāt blame him for his lack of knowledge. Instead, I very much thank him for his willingness to seek out that knowledge through me, from someone who is willing to teach.
