Web 2.0 Practical Implementation Project Reflection
Information Management System (MIS) was one of the most useful subjects I have learned during my last semester of bachelor degree. It is about learning web 2.0 tools and Management Information Systems. At the beginning of this semester I have been taught by my class mate about nine different google tools as web 2.0 training project. These tools are Google Chrome, Blogs (tumblr), Google Sites, Google Plus, Google Docs, Google searching, Prezi.com, Diigo.com, Google Calendar. I knew some of them few years back; however I got to learn more about them during the training sessions. I really like the concept of the training by students where I got the chance to learn the tools in different styles base on the trainer ability.
In this project I am required to demonstrate how I implement what I learned during the training and the practical usage of these tools in my daily productivity either in my study or in my personal life. This should be illustrating by creating a google site and blog. In this reflection I will discuss the helpfulness of each tool and rank them as usefulness based of my purpose.
Google Chrome is a freeware browser which is operated by google. It helpful where easily link most of the pages with my Gmail account. Also, it allows me to manage different pages by arranging the tap. Moreover, I can change the appearance and the display as per your choice of theme. I use it frequently as my main search engine. Also, it’s useful to where I can download many different applications in it and easily use them through google chrome. For example, I have downloaded Doc’s, translator and many others. I ranked Google chrome first among the nine web 2.0 tools because I really depend on it for most of my college and personal work.
Google search is a web search engine which helps me to find the accurate information based on the key words I type in the search bar. I learned many new ways to search for a specified type of information. For example converting currency, using online calculator, checking weather and finding words synonyms. Also, I used Google Scholar and advance search which allows me to narrow down search by type of the file, region and date range of date and many other things. This helps me in searching data for all my college projects, work tasks and daily life. I rank it as second base on the usefulness of the google search tools.
Google Plus is a social networking website allows me to communicate with who defined in different circles. Also, it permits to share and comment on others posts. I have used the chatting tools and the video calls through hangout. It helps me to gather online with my group mates to discuss about projects. Also, I used it when I travel to chat with my family. I feel it is convenient and useful where I can use it from my smart phones. I rank it as the third useful web 2.0 tools because I use it most often for the study and daily life purpose.
Google Docs is a web base processor where I can store different types of file such as word, spreadsheets, and slides. Also I can do surveys and statistics. It is really helpful where it permits me to share this stored files with other collaborator and edit them online together. I feel it is very convenient for the group when we can’t meet physically during the college holidays. I used it along with my industry project group member and other projects. Somehow, I felt it is a waste of time to comment on the editing which consume the time so we came up with solution to speak over the google plus (hangout) and work on google docs in the same time. I rank this tool as the fourth due to the usage of it.
Diigo.com is a tool where I can search and save my sources online. Also, I can share these sources with my friends. Working on diigo helps me to manage all the sources and the information in one place. It is useful because it records all the viewed information from different places in one page. Also, I feel it is very convenient to my visual to see the information displayed right in the page rather getting into each link separately. Moreover, the information can be saved as a screenshot as well. I have used it to share information and gather my resources for industry project and critical thinking subject. I rank this as the fifth among the web 2.0 tools as discussed the helpfulness and usefulness of it.
Prezi.com is a cloud base software which allows me to create presentations in more imaginative and storytelling way. I knew about it few years ago and use it frequently for the college projects. It helps me to make presentations in a way to grape the attention of the audience. Also, it is beneficial to engage the listeners. I rank Prezi as the sixth among the nine web 2.0 tools because I used it in most of my college project and it is not new to me.
Google Calendar is an online calendrer which helps me to schedule all my meeting, task due date, appointments and many other important events. Also, I am able to share, connect other people calendar along with other social important calendars. Moreover, it gives me capability to list tasks. I useful for me to manage my study, work and personal time. I rank it as the seventh useful tools because is use this long time back.
Google Site allows me to establish a website as per my choice such as business, educational or personal. It is helpful because it easiest the way to access the information by other collaborator. For example I have created google site for the Prezi training session, where I uploaded all the necessary information and file on the google site. I shared link, where it was easier for the trainer to obtain the information from there. It was useful where it save our time rather than installing it by USB for each student. I ranked the google site as the eighth among the web 2.0 tools because I used it only for the educational purpose until now.
Blogs (tumblr) is helps me to share my daily moment with my friends and family by posting pictures, videos links, texts and quotes I liked. As a part of MIS project I have created blog on tumblr and I posted many posts. I ranked it the ninth of the web 2.0 tools because I don’t use it much.
