Last week in Canada, Kristin Chenoweth was a god.

Chenoweth is part of the cast of “American Gods,” the adaptation of Neil Gaiman’s award-winning fantasy novel that will be shown on the Starz cable network next year.

On Saturday, she finished filming her role as Easter, one of the deities of ancient myth who have taken up residence on Earth in human form, and find themselves pitted against a phalanx of “modern deities,” such as technology, money and media.

“In a way, it’s a bit like ‘Game of Thrones,’ in that there are many worlds going on at the same time,” Chenoweth said in a recent telephone conversation. “And it has a huge cast of amazing actors — Ian McShane, Cloris Leachman, Gillian Anderson, Ricky Whittle, so many great people.”

The show’s executive producer, Bryan Fuller, also created the TV series “Pushing Daisies,” for which Chenoweth earned an Emmy Award for her performance.

“Bryan had been talking with me about this project for about a year,” Chenoweth said. “I read the book and fell in love with it. But then he said he wanted me to play Easter. In the book, Easter is kind of a slight character, and I wondered what sort of a part it would be.

“But Bryan is someone who is writing for television like no one else, and when he explained how he saw the role, I was in,” she said. “I can’t say too much, but Easter is represented much more in the TV series than she is in the novel.”

Let The Green Girl Fly! Wicked Will Finally Defy Gravity In Cinemas

Good news for fans of the hit Broadway musical Wicked! Universal Pictures announced the release date of the big screen version of the musical: 20 December 2019. It will be directed by Stephen Daldry and Stephen Schwartz, who composed the songs, and Winnie Holzman, who loosely adapted the book from Gregory Maguire’s re-imagination of the Witches of Oz, Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, are tapped to write the screenplay.
